Root ZTE U960 ROM Discussion

I tried One Click Updater to root my ZTE U960 and after founding the USB debugging mode between the Chinese symbols the device booted and the process started finally. But the process indication took ages and nothing happened on the screen. It seemed that the smartphone was off because I couldn't switch on the display for a very long time. So I resolved to pull off the USB cable while the process.

Now my ZTE U960 is bricked and I don't know how to go in the recovery mode (I tried keeping the power button and Volume UP depressed, as described here from The Solutor)!

Perhaps anyone can mention in the stickies that the rooting process with One Click Updater lasts very very long and you should NEVER remove the USB cable during the process.

But for all that, can I reanimate the device at all?

One click updater doesn't last long, likely something else went wrong

Is not mentioned because it's not true (please read the messages posted after the one with my tutorial), unplug and replug the the usb cable if you have the process stuck @83% or 89% usually helps to complete the process.

But for all that, can I reanimate the device at all?

have you tried to launch the one click updater and then plugging the phone, as is w/o the battery ?

I doubt the phone is really bricked.

I think I aborted the process before the indication reached 83% because nothing happened on the screen of the device after rebooting with One Click Updater. The tool took several minutes but on the device you couldn't see any progress.

I tried launching the One Click Updater or switching on the device in several ways, but nothing more happened at all. Only when I plug the phone without battery the phone vibrates and hang up at China Mobile logo...

When I try to start the phone without battery and keep the power button while the Volume UP or DOWN depressed, nothing happened.

Hi!

Try to start the phone in fastboot mode, by holding the Volume down key while pressing the power button. The screen will remain blank, but the device should show up in the Device Manager of Windows, as "Android Sooner Single ADB interface", and if you have Join Me or the driver pack from the official updater installed, then it should be recognized by Windows and the driver should install automatically. Now if you have ADB configured on your computer, you can push a working recovery to the phone with the "fastboot flash recovery <name of recovery>.img" command, and then you can reboot to the recovery, perform a wipe and install a custom ROM, for example Catty's. If it boots up and everything is fine, you can retry the official update.

Im having a problem, I installed the oneclickupdater tool but it doesnt work because my phones not recognized and I installed the U960 handset drivers from the ZTE ONECLICKTOOL Dir

And I tried several join me softwares, but I havent found any which supports the U960.

Please help!

I do get a Driver Installation Prompt (ZTE HSUSB Device) but it wont install automatically and when I point it to TheSolutors Oneclickpackage it cant detect any driver filesneither the oneclicktool dir :(

Im doing this on an xp sp2 machine and my phone is running Catty 1.5.1 2B03 on the phone. Joinme software is installed

In which state does the phone have to be? I enabled Debugging

I've successfully updated my phone to the latest catty's ROM and restored all my apps and data by restoring the data partition from the recovery.

Thanx!

I've restored stock 2B07 beacause with the latest catty's rom my phone was not stable all all even if I reduced the clock speed to 1.0Ghz with SetCpu, Some time the phone freezed when I was making a call, some time the phone freezed when I was browing Internet and some time the phone freeze at night while I was plugged to the charger...
I' don't know if these freeze are due to the fact that I restored the data partition instead of reinstalling all the apps...
For now I will keep stock 2B07 and loose some of the features presents in catty's rom (the "advanced setting" menu, circular battery indicator, init.s support)

I've experienced these freezes when the CPU was on 1,4 Ghz, but after setting the clock speed to 1 Ghz and the governor to ondemand, it is gone, haven't experienced a single one since last thursday.

Has been the same for me. Open System tab on your XP machine and delete all ZTE drivers. Then reboot XP machine. Install ZTE_U960_Handset_USB_driver by doubleclick on the exe file in Win32Driver folder. Allow debugging mode on your phone. Connect your phone via USB to XP machine. XP will ask for 3 drivers. For all of them point to the ZTE Handset USB Driver directory created on your machine during the installation process of the driver package which contains the driver.

Anyone is having a working BT-connection to headset / parrot system? For me the phone is not able to connect to the BT System in my car. When i try to pair I get a failure message and that's it.
Hmm, BT working at all? So i established a connection between my two phones and send a file from one to the other and back. Both ways working fine so BT is working.

Anyone an idea why it's impossible to connect to BT car system?

I'm running Cattys latest ROM and no freezes at all. Using GPS navigation a lot for geocaching along with other stuff for calculation of next coordinates and not even one freeze. Only thing is the BT thing not working properly as described in my other post.

Hi,

I installed ADB correctly but I don't know how to include the "u960 recovery" to C:\Program Files\Android\android-sdk\platform-tools

Can I manually copy the files from the zip file to the platform-tools folder?

In the platform-tools folder I have the fastboot.exe but in the zip file from the "u960 recovery" I have the recovery.img

Can I only copy and paste the files or will I crush anything when I do it?

I am successfully using it with my VW kulfatec BT car kit(I think this is parrot kit inside), I am able to browse my phone book(on the head unit) but call lists is showing empty all the time.

May be you have to reset the car kit as in my case the unit can only be paired with 3 phones then I have to factory reset to connect.

I am having the same problem. My phone can pair with my car (Benz E Class) but the connection is no stable and phone software crashed. It happen with original ROM and the latest Catty ROM as well. My phone can pair to other phone or devices with no problem.

You just need to extract the img file from the zip to the paltform-tools folder.

Market enabler?
Hi I am using the latest Catty rom , it is working great only minor glitches i found is to manually connect to network after long time of inactivity or from wifi to 3g. I am not able to install Barclays Pingit (banking application) , searching on google play is not finding any results. Any idea to sort this.

Thank you for your advice. But when I'm holding the Volume down key while pressing the power button and plug the phone without battery the four phone buttons are blinking and the phone doesn't vibrate (I expect this is the recovery mode). And when I plug the phone without holding any key the One Click Updater can see the the phone as checked.

But in the cmd.exe in both ways there is only shown < waiting for device >

Okay, let's see this step by step.
First, disconnect the phone from the PC, then replace the battery.
Then hold the volume down key and press the power button. The phone will vibrate, but the screen will remain black.
Release the VOL down button and connect the phone to the PC, and it should show up in the device manager.
If you can see the device, then just open a command prompt, navigate to the platform-tools folder where the recovery.img is, and type the following command: "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img", and it should flash a custom recovery.

Hey, so the official updater can see the phone?
Yes, when One Click Updater is the official updater then it can see the phone. But only when I don't holding the Volume down key while pressing the power button.

Then I can also see the "ZTE Handset Diagnostic Interface" on COM5 port in device manager.

I've installed the drivers in the One Click Updater in several times and Me Go can't installed any more because the phone doesn't go on after the first boot screen (China Mobile logo?):

Yes, but this is only the case when I don't release the vol key.

There only promt the driver assistant pop up because in device manager there is only "ZTE Handset Diagnostic Interface" in connections and I haven't other drivers as in the One Click Updater package because I can't install the drivers from join me any more...

When I do this it's the same I get with the cmd.exe and I only get < waiting for device >

It seems that I haven't got the correct drivers.

Where can I get the drivers when I don't have join me and the ZTE_U960_Handset_USB_Driver.exe doesn't install the correct drivers after rebooting?

I use Windows XP Professional SP3 from a friend today. At home I haven't Windows XP so I must hurry up as long as I still can use it...

Here is the link for the version of Join Me that came with the phone:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/13117717/JoinMe_for_Android.exe
Install this, and hopefully the PC will recognize the phone.
I see on the screenshot that there are quite a few unknown devices, I think those are the phone's interfaces.
