Root ZTE U960 ROM Discussion

Now i have no error so i think it's good. But i have tried to replace the contacts.apk with a copy/paste and now i haven't the dialer and the contacts ?

don't replace the whole apk, it must be signed to work.

use the .arsc file you can find inside the freshly compiled apk, and overwrite with it the original one inside the original apk.

Then use that apk to replace the original one on the phone.

Maybe i do something wrong. same problem. i have restore my original apk.
i have used winror to get resouces.arsc file and then i have put it in the original contacts.apk with winrar.
after that, i have used rootfile to paste the original apk in system/app

is it correct

Catty, I've just noticed that the USB tethering option is missing from the ROM. If I remember correctly, it was present in previous ROMs.
Is it missing from the original release too? (I haven't tried the official 2b07.)

yes it is ... with adb set perm to the apk with chmod 644 /system/app/Contacts.apk
(PS usually I use 7zip for zip and apk ... if don't work try it ... ;))

Oh, I thought that the function itself is missing from the ROM, but looks like only the switcher is not incorporated.
Thanks, I've installed the widget, now I can enable USB tethering. :D
BTW, If I remeber correctly, maybe in B03 or stock B06, there was an option for it in the settings.

open a dos command promt from the dir where there is the apk that you want to push to the phone and type for example
adb push nameofyourapp.apk /system/app/
adb shell
su (if you are not root, if you don't see at the prompt the "#")
chmod 644 /system/app/Contacts.apk

otherwise you can also use rootexplorer to copy and change perm to the apk ..

Some applications check for rootede devices, perhaps thats why you can not update/install it, i think actualy that app is mentioned erlier in this tread.

I got the same problem with my company using DME for pushmail, and the new version of it now checks for rooted phones, so atm i am unable to update it :-/

If you use Hide my Root Application from the market, you can install those applications . But the problem is I cannot find it in the playstore.

Hold the "volume down" key, and then press the power button, and only release it when the phone vibrates. It should take 8-10 seconds. After this, just release the volume down key.
Now the phone should be in fastboot mode, or FTM mode, it's the same. :D
The screen is blank in this mode, but if we connect it to the computer, a single new device should pop up, the "Android Sooner Single ADB interface". The driver automatically installs, at least for me, if not, try to force the driver install, but usually it is unnecesary.

Thanks a lot for your tutorial bordapapa, but when I replace the battery and then hold the "volume down" key and after that press the power button the phone already vibrates after 1-3 seconds.

Because I cannot switch in fastboot mode I cannot install the "Android Sooner Single ADB interface" driver.

B03 is installed on my ZTE U960, too. That is why I cannot switch to the recovery mode. Very interesting bordapapa thanks a lot! But can you explain me why I cannot switch to the fastboot mode?

you must press the volume down and at the same time power button...
after vibrates release the power button and keep pressed the vol down for a few time (5 sec to be sure)... it seems nothing doing but it is surely in fastboot mode!

Likely your phone is in a very odd condition that prevent it to behave normally.

Given anything else failed i believe your only option is to flash the phone with QPST

following this tutorial



I never dit it myself but pay attention that this process will likely kill your IMEI and/or your BT/WIFI MAC address.

So you are strongly advised to backup your NVram with the same SW, so you can restore it when your phone is live and kicking again.

1 use chromium or chrome to have the pages translated

2 you need to post in the thread to see the hidden sections, a "thanks for your work/tutorial" is enough.

It was similar to me. I got my new ZTE U960 from etotalk with Chinese language and I didn't know that my phone may be already rooted. So I followed the tutorial from the Solutor in the hope that I can flash a multilanguage ROM.

How can I force the driver install. When my phone seems to be in fastmode (but I don't think so) in the device manager only appears one unkown device, named "USB device". There is really no "Android Sooner Single ADB interface" driver installed automatically.

I spent time about 4 days and I got headache because reanimating this phone. I only want to flash a German ROM on the Chinese ROM and I read belated that etotalk had already probably rooted this phone. So it may be that I bricked this phone during the One Click Updater wants to root the already rooted phone... Because I unplugged this absolute new phone without (by me) preinstalled software the phone may be in a very odd condition. I hope it is not so because I'm at my nerves end and I've paid over 300 Euro for this device...

Can you post the usb PID and VID you can see on the unknown USB device ?

So we can esily understand if the problem is on the missing driver side or in the phone itself.

So it may be that I bricked this phone during the One Click Updater wants to root the already rooted phone...

The official updater is meant to restore the phone in its original state, so surely the root is not needed, nor the problem if present.

Ok, your phone is not dead, you need just the correct drivers, which aren't zte drivers but android generic drivers.

They aren't included on the proprietary zte driver package

You can use those drivers

Download file

they are packaged from motorola but they are surely working

Install the driver package, connect the phone in the same condition shown on your previous message, go in the start menu and click on the motorola installer, your question mark should disappear and the correct device should be shown.

Then flash the recovery with the command

fastboot flash recovery recovery.img

then use the recovery to flash again the phone.
