Root ZTE U960 ROM Discussion

Why did i have two different baseband versions

If you use research download you will update only the SP baseband.

If you use the one click updater you will update the whole system so (system, kernel, both baseband...)

If you use the update.zip packeges (usually) only the system partitio and the boot image are updated.

So you can have any combination of baseband and system depending on the update method.
I personally think that my B03 Version was better, this is why i want to downgrade maybe to version B06.
You can find the 01B12 baseband inside my rom package in post #8, and a baseband very close to B03 (maybe exactly the same) in post #65.

You can also backup your system with the recovery, update the whole system to B06 with one click updater and then (if you want), restore your actual system (or flash any other rom in update.zip format).

Thanks solutor, i had installed the 2B03 from post #65(vodafone sim) before i updated to 2B07 with research download.
Is it better to update all with one click updater before i install a ROM?
I think i will update the whole system with one click updater and then i will install the new Catty ROM again because i like the advanced settings - thanks Catty for the ROM and your work.

Hello, i tried to use one click updater, but my phone is not detected(status red - drivers are installed).
Has somebody an english desciption of one click updater because i couldn

morning gents,

I have a problem with my sims (both t-mobile): from time to time one of the sims to not get signal... sometimes sim1 switches to no signal... sometimes sim2 goes off...

Maybe it's because of just one IMEI two times booked into t-mobile network?

Anyway - hope a new baseband will fix this... BUT: i still have a problem to see what kind of baseband is installed... Can somebody can take a look on the screenshot please and explane me the acutual 3 (!) different verions and if I should up/downgrade to 2B06 vie one click update?!

here is the screenshot:

thanks

regards

Your SIM1 baseband (01B10) is pretty old, it's the version that wasn't working at al with the 128K italian vodafone SIMs, that means that likely, also the SIM2 baseband is still at the same version even if the version looks masked by the etotalk's own versioning.

So basically yes, updating the SIM1/Spreadstrum baseband is strongly suggested, updating the whole phone with the one click updater is a good idea too, but the qualcomm baseband looked more mature even on older roms (the qualcom SOC is on the markets since 2010 while the SP baseband is a new product).

I finally bought the phone straight from the source. China mobile.

baseband: U960V1.0.1B08W
hardware: ts6C
kernel: 2.6.35.7-perf+
android: 2.3.5

when at home the rooting will start

btw, the emergence mistake is also in this phone. Not etotalk's mistske!

When I was buying my phone it was advertise that have 1GB RAM on it. Now using the system info software I can see that total RAM is 353MB.

My phone details are:
Model: ZTE-T U960
Hardware: ts6c
Kernel: 2.6.35.7-perf+
Build: ZTE-T U960CMCCV1.0.0B06

Is it possible that I did something wrong during upgrade process and install wrong kernel? or seller chit me that this model have 1GB RAM?

Thanks.

Don't confuse the storage memory with RAM.

The phone has 1GB of FLASH memory (which is something like the HDD on a PC)

And 512MB of RAM, part of this memory is not accessible like on some PCs with the integrated VGA, BTW that amount is not fixed and can be increased with a better kernel. Usually on the latest kernel more than 380MB of ram are available.

The phone you own is the only version available.

I did it in my car during the the stops at traffic lights.

just google for

DooMLoRD_v1_ROOT-zergRush-busybox-su

(one click and one reboot needed)

just to make sure, you had your laptop computer with you, or is it possible to root the phone on it's own?

I had my laptop with me.

BTW keep in mind that this method works only on older roms, other approaches are needed with the latest ones.

zte-t u960v1.0.1b08 seems like a very old rom, if you are discussimg b13. Or is that the wrong logic?

I have some more questions. I have read trough this and other threads to find the answer, but did not understand, or could not find the answer. Your help is greatly appreciated.
-my phone now has all these useless chinese apps. With a rooted phone, can I delete these? Or is it needed to cook a different rom? If all I want is to remove these aps, is it hard to make a new rom?
- the phone has 1 gig memory, part of that is used by the kernel, but part will also be used by these chinese aps. Will deleting them result in more space for other apps?
- is there and advantage in including aps in a rom over installing them yourself? In my htc desire, I have google market. But the mandatory update is google play. It seems to me that it now uses space twice: in the rom, and in the update. Same goes for maps, youtube. Am I making sense?
- is there a list of all the things that can be deleted from a rom, build without risking stability?
- would it be hard to correct the spelling mistakes in the emergence and slilent?

Once again, thanks for any answers/explanations you can give me.

new one is 2b07 , not 1b13,

I think if you got recovery installed flash with cattys latest rom and a baseband update will sort most of the issues.

Now I've the problem with the baseband.

Here is what bullifrank gets with *983*1275#
To check your real baseband version you need to dial the strings

*983*1275#
Then i Do see this:
Base1.jpg

What Base do i have now? I guess B03 right?
But now, here is what I get with *983*1275#

ResearchDownload seemed to be finished (it showed successful status) and I booted the phone. I tried this 2B07 baseband: DepositFiles and this U960-Fixed-Baseband: Download U960-Fixed-Baseband.7z

You see that the line between "software version:U960V1.02B07" and "U960V1.02B06" is missing.

You see that SIM1 has a problem with the baseband (other phone don't have problems with this SIM card and this operator at the same location).

Hi,

I have bought my phone by etotalk. I have a problem with SIM1. When i am calling or receing a call, i dont hear well and sometimes, the person that i call dont hear me well or hear an echo. I have flash my phone with the OfficialUpdate (thanks to The Solutor and catty62 :) ) but still same. it is not a problem of my operator because when i invert Sim 1 with Sim 2, the problem is still the same. On Sim 2, it's OK.
Do you think that it's an hardware problem ? (I have 2B06 baseband version)

thanks for your replies.

Check your imei dialing *#06#
Thank you very much for your help, The Solutor! You are right, when I dial *#06# there is no IMEI (IMEI=0)

But when I run again One Click Updater (from the same PC/installation) I get the prompt with Chinese symbols. When I click the button of this promt I get the green checked symbol on the left, but also when I unplug the phone from the Windows XP machine. The button on the right which should start the progress of One Click Updater isn't unfortunately active, so I can't start the update again. I can't go in the recovery mode and Windows XP doesn't show any unknown drivers when the phone is plugged with or without battery and with fastboot mode or without fastboot mode. On Windows 7/8 everything seems fine but unfortunately there doesn't work One Click Updater.

The popup you get from the One Click Updater means ""IMEI read failure", so you need to restore your imei before run again the update.
You can restore the imei by using this procedure:

Thank you very much, nothingman76! I think this way to restore my IMEI is very dangerous and I really don't want to brick my phone.

Is there another way to restore my IMEI with less danger?

I must wait when I can use the Windows XP machine again because the person who owns this PC doesn't have much time and the location is a bit far away. But I think I have to try this procedure at the next opportunity.

Take a look on page 10 of this thread: you should be able to restore your imei also flashing an old rom such as b08 and then dialing this code *983*4634#
I've restored my imei using then other "dangerous" method... but you should find b08 download link in this thread

Menu-settings-applications-development -set IMEI
I think this option is only presents on some custom rom as the latest catty's rom
I've installed the latest Catty ROM therefor I could find this option. So I pasted my IMEI from the sticker which was in the box of ZTE U960 but when I went again to the IMEI SET the edit window was blank. I am very unsure if this procedure works to restore my IMEI because of ablogik's post:
EDIT: Ok, so I opened the .exe of the update program and selected chinese character set. I found the corresponding IMEI message: 读取IMEI失败 which means "IMEI read failure".
The other strange message you get is 读取手机版本失败 which means "Failed to read phone version".

So based on next post, I've been able to use Catty ROM 1.5.1, but it still does not fix the IMEI issue. Not sure what I can do.
My current question is, if I am forced to flash B08 to restore my IMEI?
The popup you get from the One Click Updater means ""IMEI read failure", so you need to restore your imei before run again the update.
Is there really a need to restore my IMEI before I run again One Click Updater?

Is in this post the B08 which I have to flash so that I can restore my IMEI?

Thanks a lot for your help!

Yes if you don't want to use the qpst software and the advanced option under the setting menu doesn't work, I think that the only solution is to flash the b08 Rom that you found in the post...
