Root ZTE U960 ROM Discussion

I also didn't get all three drivers as bullifrank described:

Likely he had a differnt android phone before and the device is shown differently.

Anywhay I've teste the drivers before repliing, and I've successifully flashed the recovery via fastboot.

So be sure you haven't any adb related file on your windows or windows system directory, kill any adb running process, then use the files from the directory where you have the google tools.

BTW keep in mind that this process should work in win7 w/o any problem, unlike the one click installer, so you can test it even in win7

Thank you for this information, working on my Windows 8 machine (should be the same as Windows 7) saves me a lot of time because I don't have to go to any friend with the older Windows XP PC.

Now at home, my Windows 8 machine doesn't show an unknown "USB device" but an unknown device, named "Android" with another usb PID and VID information (look at the attached screenshot).

Can I install the driver package from motorola promptly? Or do I have to install a specific driver?

I believe yes you can, btw the motorola drivers have the advantage of a proper uninstaller, you can test them, if they aren't working you can use the ones linked by catty

Then flash the recovery with the command

fastboot flash recovery recovery.img

then use the recovery to flash again the phone.

that's all
Ok, no bluescreen any more. But now when I run the "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img" command the cmd.exe seemed to show any progress. Unfortunately the command prompt closed so quickly that I don't know if the recovery image is copied. I'm also not be able to switch in the recovery mode of the phone with keeping the power button and Volume UP depressed. It may be related to the B03

When I type the command "adb devices" in platform-tools folder the command prompt shows quicky as well a message: "List of devices attached"

But nothing is attached...

[...] if we have a working recovery, then we are golden, we can do anything. Use catty's new recovery for example [...]
I think a working recovery may be my current problem.

I found out that my phone finally switches in the fastboot mode and gets the recoveries with the command prompt successfully, but doesn't switch in the recovery mode because hang at the boot logo. I think it is related either the the B03 version or to the not working recovery. When it is related to the recovery where can I find the correct recovery?

I tried catty's new mod recovery CWM 5.0.2.7 with the adb enabled from here
I tried Recovery-English from here
I tried U960_recovery from here

None of them worked correctly for me.

For successfully writing a recovery I could capture a screenshot by having very fast reaction:

try to use the recovery files you have using fastboot boot recovery.img and see if something change to see if the recovery is working and is not a flash problem ...
to keep the dos promp window open after finish open it and then change to the dir where you have the files for try fastboot, do not use the "run" box on the start menu, if you used it...;)

As I now finally got a working U960 with eto V1.6c rom I already got a question:

Does anybody know a good app for switching the LED to flash at missed calls or unred sms/mms? MissedCallReminder does not work on U960...

regards from germany

@catty,
I have read on the forum that i can upgarde only the baseband whith a .pac file. I dont found the 2B06.pac on the forum.
can you confirm that i have not the 2B06 baseband on my phone ( see my last post) ?
I have the 2b07.pac file but i dont know if it is stable ?

thanks

For successfully writing a recovery I could capture a screenshot by having very fast reaction:

open the command prompt and go in the needed directory, then type the command, to see any relevant message

Now that you have a working configuration on your PC, keep in mind that fastboot mode can do a lot of things, type just fastboot to see the commands list.

With -w you can wipe the phone and you can flash also other partitions, starting from the most relevant ones: boot and system

If you don't have handy a rom in .img format you can look at the one click updater folder

C:\Programmi\ZTE\DL_U960_CMCC_CHN_EU\version

(obviously "programmi" is "Program Files" in English or international windows, and "Programme" in German versions)

You will see a lot of .ZTE files, they are just the renamed partition images

JW.ZTE ---> boot.img

RK.ZTE ---> system.img

RF.ZTE ---> recovery.img

And so on.

You can find alternate versions of boot.img in any rom in update.zip format

So try to wipe the phone, try to flash boot image, try to flash system and see what happens each time.

try to use the recovery files you have using fastboot boot recovery.img and see if something change to see if the recovery is working and is not a flash problem ...
Yippee! :proud:

catty62, you made my day! :thumb: After running the "fastboot boot recovery.img" command I got two unknown devices, called "ZTE HSUSB Device", and at this moment I got the recovery mode where I flashed your ROM finally!

Thank you very much for your help and for your great ROM, catty62
(I prefer to thank with text because I dislike this thanking-system)

(in your post there is not the spec that you used to solve the problem and the other can't know to what you are saying about)

post a screenshot of the "About phone" in settings menu showing SIM1 baseband version and SIM2 baseband version ...

*983*154#

This is the proper way to see what basebands you have installed.

post a screenshot of the "About phone" in settings menu showing SIM1 baseband version and SIM2 baseband version ...

And this is not the proper way, in that menu you will see just what's written in the build.prop file, regardless the real baseband you have installed.

Hi,

sorry but i dont know how to post a printscreen so i write info that i see when i dial :
SoftwareVersion :

Etotalk.com V1.6c
U960SPV1.0.2B06
U960SPV1.0.2B03
ZTE_U960_V1.0.1B13

thanks for your understanding.

We had a long discussion in a German forum. I dislike this thanking system as I dislike the iOS policy and prefer the almost free Android. It's my philosophy because I think it's better when user are used to make their own opinion by reading the other user's text and not their thanks. But you got once only two thanks for your last advice and your new ROM! :) (I hope the other users can live with my philosophy)
(in your post there is not the spec that you used to solve the problem and the other can't know to what you are saying about)
The problem is that I don't know why I suddenly got in the recovery mode. I described the specification above!

Thanks for the sceenshot - i have the same baseband version, but in the second line i have something different.
first line: Etotalk.comV1.6C/U960V1.0.2B06
second line: U960SPV1.0.2B07/ZTE_U960_V1.0.2B03
So i think i have B06 on Sim2 and B07 on Sim1?What means the B03 marked red?
Why did i have two different baseband versions - i updated the baseband with research download with the pac file of version B07.
I personally think that my B03 Version was better, this is why i want to downgrade maybe to version B06.
Has anyone a downloadlink for the B06(pac file) to use with research download?
Normally i make all my calls with Sim1.
