Root ZTE U960 ROM Discussion

zte user,
some network operators are not allow to work simultaneously two sim cards with the same IMEI in one cellular network. There's no problem with this if sim cards are in different networks or in one network, but with two separate IMEI...

Thank you very much, Domin6! Now I've also managed the Play Store with 'Force Close' -> 'Clear Data' -> 'Uninstall Updates'

EDIT:

Sometimes my phone freezes in the Android browser and when I reboot by changing the battery the phone tooks several times to turn on. Although the battery is full the phone turns off after the first boot logo. After three or four tries the second boot logo "Android" is shown and the phone boots normal. There is also a problem with slot1 to go in the web. With slot2 there is no problem with the same SIM card. Is it due to the missing IMEI in slot1 ?

Can anyone can help and list me which item i need to purchase from etotalk to make sure u960 working as a normal great dual sim full active..
1. Memory 8G, 16GB, 32GB C4 or 32GB C10 ? .... what C4 or C10 means ?
2. USB Data Cable ( +US$4.99 ) is it need this cable if i want to root using solutor advice ? or original package already include the root cable to connect to winxp ?

I solved the play store issue using one of the appropriate file that I found here...
In my case obviously ZTE U960 the file I used is Vending.3.5.19.noupdate.norestrictions.dpi240.nosig-aligned.apk, it do not execute autoupdate and so it is working well ...

To use the file
delete the old Vending.apk in /system/app then copy the new apk downloaded and copy it in /system/app/Vending.apk
then set perm, owner, and group to it to 644 root root via adb or terminal emulator with the commands
cd /system/app/
chmod 644 Vending.apk
chown 0 Vending.apk
chgrp 0 Vending.apk

My corporate anti-virus (Kaspersky 6.0) found a Trojan on the SecuritySms.apk which is found on every ROM I've tried (stock rom or etotalk rom).

I don't know if it's a false alert because I dind't find any usefull info about the Trojan AndroidOS.Stesec.a but after seeing this I've deleted this apk from my phone and I dindn't note any problem. I've also decompiled the apk but I didn't totally understand what does this app do: probably it can simply be used to auto-configure the phone with special sms messages... The app is composed by three java classes SecuritySmsExecSend.java, SecuritySmsService.java and SmBroadcastReceiver.java but the latter class cannot be not decompiled with dex2jar...

Regarding the other backdoor found on ZTE Skate I think that the U960 it's not affected because the elf executable "/system/bin/sync_agent" it's not present and the adb shell command "sync_agent ztex1609523" simply fails..

I only understand to set the permissions to rw-r-r....
but the rest... what is the 644 thing?
 
hmmm... still updates to 3.7.13

what i did:
- downloaded the mentioned file Vending.3.5.19.noupdate.norestrictions.dpi240.nosi
- copied it in the system/app directory
- deleted the old Vending.apk file
- renamed the the mentioned file from step one to Vending.apk (and set the permissions)

for a short time i had 3.5.19 but only for some minutes....

try to clear data, and uninstall the update from the Play store ...
that file for me work fine...

I just wish the battery indocator in the statusbar. There for a zip file? But please, no app from the market.

Sometimes i can fix it by turning off the phone and then powering it on again, but thats only 50% of the time this works.
Bluetooth on sim2 works without any problems, and i can switch the sim cards around and the problem will still stay on sim1.
The device will connect and in general look as it should, but as soon as i get a call or make a call on sim1 the noice will get distortet and the user in the other end will sound like a robot, and i sound the same to them.
I upgraded to latest catty version hoping it would fix this but it dont looks like it have helped :-/

i had the same problem. I had a rom file from etotalk because previously I had problem to connect phone to PC.
I had done the full reinstall of soft. It helped me. After first phone start I connect my headset by bluetooth till my programms were installed and I called to my friends to check that bluetooth works. The problem occures also if You use programm such as Froyo or any task concerning gsm signal or bluetooth (tasker tasks for gsm signal level and etc.) So I don't use Froyo and taskers tasks which may cause bluetooth. I wrote to Etotalk about this problem they can't give a reply whey will ask their engineers.

I have the same problem too. I actually mentioned it in a private message to the Solutor and I guess he found it very strange. How do you manage that and can you tell me exactly what you do work around this problem? I have tried almost every ROM out there from Etotalk, the Solutor and Catty.
 
gents - I know it sounds like a stupid question: but does your U960 have a notification LED at the front? Is it on while charging? Does it go on on incomming messages?

The battery indicator is in the framework.apk ... in my rom there are 7 icons styles ... you can also find a lot of app for the battery indicator ...
