Root ZTE Zmax Pro Official Root Discussion

The OnePlus 3 and G5 have smaller screens, smaller battery capacity, and cameras aren't as many megapixels as the new ZTE Blade Z. Those would be horrible alternatives for my needs.
>Cameras aren't as many megapixels
This argument, no offense, is invalid. It's been shown time and time again that "megapixels" doesn't make the phone, or standalone camera's image better. It's about the sensor.

>Smaller Screens
Yeah, that I'll give you.

>Smaller Battery Capacity
Memory and Battery Management is much much better on the OP3 and the MG5. They last days on a single charge, as would the ZTE Zmax Pro. My Zmax and my OP3 last the same amount of time.

Once again this is all up to opinion, but just a couple thoughts.

I'm shooting for my original goal. I want the axon 7. I still think this is the best slightly future proof phone you can get without spending 600 to 800 dollars.

I agree with you. Everyone has slightly different needs and I agree that the jury is out on the quality of camera on the BLADE Z until we actually can try it and see if the sensor does a good job. It's not only about a greater megapixel rating. Let's hope for the best.

Totally agree. Awesome cheap phones are a blessing. Looking at you, Moto G line. The ZMax Pro is great aswell.

Wandering OT isn't it? Have we all admitted defeat on rooting the Zmax Pro?
After b20 they have updated to the latest secure boot security updates.

They have patched any and all known exploits and have future proofed by locking partitions to root access.

It's smart security wise, but makes it bad for consumers who want more access.

Temp root is still available, but it's not readily available due to the lack of time the system gives before it reboots and causes a file system clean to remove modified files.

I'll probably always be here working on it, but I doubt it'll be more than a "pass the time" kind of thing.

I've given up on the ZTE Zmax Pro getting root a long time ago. I got this phone for Christmas in 2016. Now it's 2017 and the year is getting close to ending. I bought a Samsung Galaxy J7 and it's rootable. I suggest everyone to just get a rootable phone.

It's not about having a rooted phone, it's about rooting it. I have a J7, HTC 626, and a few tablets that are fully rooted, but they aren't nearly as fun as breaking a phone no one else has yet.

I've been having a look through the CVEs lately, and stumbled on a ton of codec exploits, generally AVC. If we can figure out how the AVC decoder is being used to exploit (it's a total system compromisation), we can have root running in no time. Back in 2012, AVC took a massive hit, so there should be a lot of documentation on it as well.

@GarnetSunset if Broadpwn is proving to be too challenging, we can work on this. I'm pretty savvy when it comes to these kinds of exploits

*Edit From what I can tell, it's a buffer overflow/underflow exploit using AVCs pixel pipeline memory allocation scheme. So a specially crafted video with very specific pixels (that should be... Fun) should allow arbitrary code execution in that particular buffer.

Just as a heads up. T-Mobile pushed out an update today to B14 (I think T-Mobile is one version behind MetroPCS in numbers only). It updated the Android security patches to the first of this month, and I don't think it did anything else (my wifi calling hasn't been fixed).

I got a Metro PCS update on mine to b21

If you could rip that update, that'd be great. I want to see specifically what they are patching
Aww man bad news I updated my phone before I read this, I need my phone stable a possible right now... hopefully someone else can rip it...so far I notice it's a Android security patch.

Checking through the last 2700+ posts of this thread, plus the 1000+ posts of the previous thread should keep you busy for a while ;):)
Man that's depressing. All these posts and little progress. We'll get there though, one way or another.
