Well then. I guess there isn't much hope for rooting this device and getting recovery flashed. There is an app in playstore that can flash recovery, but I'm sure we'd have to have selinux permissive and probably at least be able to access bootloader so we could actually fix if bricked...

B12 fixed my phone randomly rebooting, and my severe battery drain. I took OTA, so it wasn't very hard to install, however, the next day, my wife's wouldn't even find the update and never has.

The only issues I really had with B12 was keyboard lag occasionally. The dual versions of every system app are still an issue. We have Metro's and Google's version of everything.

I hated that my texting lost autocorrect in b12

They pulled b12 because it was extremely buggy for alot of people

I still have one that was never updated, but it doesn't have service either. I switched the service over to an on5 because PDAnet works on it.

I know, I've been following along, and trying my own things. Can't wait for b14 to come out so she can update. But she won't root if a method comes up. She's seen me go through hell reviving phones from the dead testing for different things. My biggest issue right now, is that I haven't been inside Android much since 5.0 lollipop was in beta. I was doing a lot of testing for the galaxy tab and s5 when lollipop was finally released. No matter what version, I hope we do get root achieved... I'd like to see nougat on this device, even if ZTE doesn't officially release it. Would be awesome to have a few custom ROM options for this device.

Hmm I'm at work since this ZTE , almost have the modes of the iPhone , I wonder , if I have it powered off completely and , then have the fast charge connected to my laptop ,then connect ZTE while pressing the volume +up ... If FTM comes up then ADP should work fully as in reboot blah blah if so I'll try to run chainfire systemless root ,. Already down two ,I'll try this when I get off work ...

I doubt we'll ever have anything other than a de-bloated stock ROM available for this thing even if it is rooted. It's a cheap phone. There isn't enough interest in it. I've never ported CM over to any phone. I wouldn't take it on for the first time on this thing. I'd probably be two phones further down the line before I could get it all figured out. De-bloating them is much easier.

Aren't you just the optimistic one? If we manage to get root on this device, and a working recovery, I'm sure there will be at least one or two custom Roms. There are a few people who can help get nougat ported once we get a way to flash it. Even if it's just a ported axon nougat ROM... But after recent findings, I don't look for ZTE to update us to nougat officially. That being said, I'm probably going to be grabbing a new phone when my tax return gets back to me.

Even if we get root we won't have custom Roms due to the bootloader being locked if they (zte) unlock the bootloader I'll port a couple roms myself (yes I can develop Roms it's not that hard after the first time or two the hardest part is making it 100% bug free which is almost non existent in Roms anyways

I have a feeling it will get nougat eventually. The fact that they are updating their low end models at all is a good sign. They want to build a customer base.

I wish I would have just ponied up for a OnePlus 3 at this point. I bought these because I had lost a phone, and needed one right away. The Metro store is on the way home from work. It gets the job done.

I'm still on b08 update. I never updated my phone. However its my main phone and can't afford this phone to brick, until i get my taxes. So we find a permanent solution I'll try

z981v1.0.0b08 build number.

Since when? I haven't even had any issues except bizzare WiFi glitches.
The first two I had were horrible. They wouldn't work for a half an hour without needing to be rebooted. I swapped those out for two that didn't constantly freeze. They still had issues with touch, and keyboard lag. The screen would go haywire. Auto-rotate got stuck all the time. I was always having to reset because it lost LTE. B12 made it less frequent. It didn't fix it completely.

Sounds like you've had some defective units friendo. I've only had the glitchy keyboard problem but switching to another SMS app fixes it.
