Ok after a lot of searching... I have come to terms that I'm crazy and the keys to sign the b14 update are nonexistent. Therefore, unpacking the ota update, inserting supersu, and repacking at the same exact size, and then installing either by stock recovery or sideload is not going to work. I hate zte more today than I did yesterday.

You should just be able to change the extension to .zip and extract it. Using the keys to sign a modified version of it will still get rejected if you try to flash it. It has been tried.

I can't believe after all theses software updates warranty exchange phones its like the same issues come back how do to you fix something then **** it up again ZTE never will I ever again

Pretty sure the z981 isn't vulnerable to that. I'll try it anyways though.

it's because the "updates" are really just fixes for keeping the phone unrootable that's there priority. Evertime we make some progress here ZTE releases a "update". I have the grandmax 2 Wich is the same phone y'all have it's been out much longer than the pro but guess what? I have only received ONE update since I bought the phone on the day it was first released! Now add 2+2 nobody talks about rooting the grandmax2(z988) so there's no need for constant updates from ZTE.

There's only been one update for the Pro too unless you want to count the one that was pulled which brings us to a grand total of 2 updates, I'm not sure where you're getting this idea of constant updates

I'm afraid your mistaken there was b04 b07 b08 b12 but the point is the new updates didn't roll out till people started talking about rooting

You're conflating things, Metro went 4 > 8 > 12, so two updates, and TMo went 7 > 9 I think? Which is one update. Not to mention if we didn't get updates, we'd have people complaining that the phone was ignored and under supported. I doubt they have people watching obscure threads 24/7 so they can try to thwart us, we haven't even accomplished anything so there's not even anything to counteract. I don't know why everyone has to get to hysterical about everything all the time.

The purpose of what I was doing was to make the edited update the same size as the original.

I don't think it's based on the file size. I'm not sure what it's based on, but it appears to verify that every file in the update is correct.

80 requests away according to Kingroot.

Guys i'm a complete beginner, but is it possible that there is a hidden file or partition that you are not aware of?

A hidden partition? Highly doubtful as we can read partitions without root. A hidden file? Of course. It can be anything from a simple md5 of the system image, all the way to a dynamic system watcher that validates files as they change.
