Root ZTE Zmax Pro Official Root Discussion

Sorry update... after another restart it now doing the root process , maybe this might help when it get stuck at 51...I'll hit the power button and then the finger scanner to wake it , I repeated that to bout 85, then it went to 100% .... I think the guys at KingRoot rooted the s7 by waking, not sure,

I tried.. almost worked.. maybe the tracfone sim I'm using made it fail or a slightly different code might do it..

I remember a while back there was a phone that couldn't be rooted unless you overloaded the ram running benchmark apps while trying to use kingroot, the results where hit & miss, but a lot of people rooted it after the 3rd, 10th, 20th attempt, the results varied but it was conformed to work, afterwards people ran a custom script to swoop kingroot with supersu. I wonder if this phone has a similar exploit.

No. This phone is nothing like the original ZMAX besides sharing a name with it. That exploit was patched in KitKat... We are on Marshmallow now.

Did some searching, it was a LG phone running lollipop, but your probably right about the patching regardless the phone or version.

That's the method I use with my alcatel running lollipop. It's brick now, so all I can say is, damn you kingroot or kingoroot. Can't remember which of those bastard apps I used. Never again.

I would think it disabled some of the security.. you can try exploits again and let us know if it makes a difference.. try ADB reboot bootloader again to..

So, massive cleaning done. Please, there is a topic. Let's stick to it. Trying to find an exploit to root a phone is a delicate thing and missteps can cause bricked devices. Trying to read posts separated by multiple off topic or loosely related posts that may be pages apart makes fatal mistakes more likely. Please keep this thread narrowly focused on achieving root for the Zmax Pro.

Did you try to replace kinguser with supersu using supersume app? That bricked another ZTE model device of mine. Anyone new please learn from this.

Jcase pulled them from obfuscated files or something. Is that valid here? I know the two devices are different but some dialer codes they hide some they don't.

Do not attempt to replace KingRoot. KingRoot will brick your device if you attempt to remove it by force. The newest versions of KingRoot cannot be removed with scripts. Head my warning and do not attempt to do it. My LG G2 is dead because of my ignorance and failure to listen to those who told me not to lol
KingRoot wants to be the only root utility and if you want to remove it you have to give up root too. It will change important system settings to where the system can only run when KingRoot is present. Every new version of KingRoot gets better at this so it is even harder for people to remove it with root intact.

TL;DR
Don't do it. You will brick your device in the process.

Perhaps all of KingRoot's new anti-removal strategies have caused what appears to be a sharp increase in its uselessness according to many post across the forums, which makes me wonder if an older build would work better, has anyone tried it yet?

I think older versions don't have access to newer exploits. Also I think that older builds will check for a new version and try to install it automatically. I tried installing a really old build of KingRoot and it forceclosed and installed a new version of it on my Zmax.

Meh, I don't care much for root at this point. I'm using my Nexus 4 until something becomes available. This device is locked down more than Fort Knox - and I live next to the damn place! Lol
 
I swear I read that a mod fastboot.exe was made inorder to get fastboot going or flash TWRP and root or vice versa. Also like someone mentioned about some Nexus devices need something that's not on the device installed or something. Can someone who knows where I'm going with this please explain it better. I never went to bed last night, up reading googling and tinkering. So kinda burned out. If we don't get it I'm sure king or kingo will but who wants to wait.
 
KingRoot now has version 5.0.3 available. Just a heads up, it doesn't even attempt to root b12 before going to "not adaptable yet" screen. I just hope it doesn't come down to some sort of hardware trick like there was with the HTC One S. After one of the updates, the method of root was called a "wire trick". Had to short out a place on the board of the phone, to get into a certain mode so you could root.


Either way, I'm still here for testing any attempt that may prove profitable. I've already exhausted everything I know to try, but I'm the idiot who did take the b12 update OTA.

And there's no old OTA file floating around so we can attempt downgrade?
