Root ZTE ZMAX TWRP NEW VERSION 2.8.6.0

Dang. That's terrible. I'll have to play real nice with this one and make sure I can hang on to it. I'd hate this phone without root.

It's been two weeks today and I still have not been able to get temp root even once out of over 100 tries. I still have not tried any of the pc based methods like the desktop version of kingroot because I don't trust them enough to run them on someone else's computer. When I get my computer back I'll try the desktop version but I suspect that the developers who designed this new firmware deliberately patched the exploit that kingroot used and if the pc version worked they probably patched that too. Only time will tell for sure.

Thanks to the good advice and help on here,I had zero problems getting root, installing TWRP, flashing Carbon, and flashing and running Masterchief87's scripts for the switcher and restore.
I think she may have had a bad device, but her mistake was factory resetting within the UI. It would have left her without a recovery. She should have made a backup and restored it via TWRP.

Open your build.prop and tell me what the build number and build date if your firmware are or post a screenshot. My build.prop shows a build date of June 14th and my build number is Z970_MetroPCSV1.0.0B10. My previous phone was Z970_MetroPCSV1.0.0B06 and I checked for updates minutes before getting my replacement and my phone told me as well that my system was up to date. This just means that MetroPCS has not yet rolled out the update as an OTA in our areas. No doubt some new phones will have the new firmware and some will have the older firmware depending on how long they have been sitting in a warehouse or on the shelf prior to being purchased. See below I posted a screenshot of my build.prop showing the build number and build date of the new "unrootable" firmware.

Lol. Sorry. I'm too young for senior moments...
I'll pull it for you in a bit. I'm out and about right now, but I did back up my stock build. I'll restore it and send that to you later. I hope it helps. FWIW, I had to try kingroot like maybe 50x to get root. I just kept trying.
 
1. I installed kingroot check root i guess yes.
2. twrp never took the app show install and reboot to recovery never installed.
3. yes weird flash splash screen.
4. here is the thing i was reading all and there was a lot of different info this is why people bricked there devices.
5. already called zte they had me go through the button process to get out of ftm, then gave me a number to call which was metropcs.
6. I never tried to flash this phone until I received the phone back, I don't think there was root or recovery for a while for the Zte Zmax.

9. did uninstall kingroot went to reset phone, other than that the phone was fine i was just trying to fix the flashing screen.

Thank you for your quick response, I went and purchase another a day after realizing that the phone was done.
I will not install a custom recovery scared of this phone. just like the price all i can afford.

Whats good i can used for parts if something happens to my other phone. Trust me I didn't want to buy the same phone I want Samsung note edge or the new one coming out.

PLEASE SEND ME LINKS OF ALL INFO ROOTING AND RECOVERY SO THIS DOES NOT HAPPEN AGAIN, I DON'T WANT TO BE IN THE WRONG PLACE FOR INFORMATION.
 
I watched the video I posted from youtube again, the only thing i could of done wrong is going into setting reset also notice the version he was using 4.2 tmobile he root and recovery ,whereas his other zmax was version 4.4. bricked, the version i had was 4.4 bricked metropcs. does it have something to do with the version you are on?

Then, instead of posting about a bricked phone, you would probably be posting thanks all around for the joy of your newly rooted and modded ZMAX.

5-8. YEP! Sounds like a hard brick to me. Maybe send it back for service and see if they will repair or replace. If they know you tried to root it, it is unlikely they will touch it.

9. This is another place you want wrong. The instructions are clear. Uninstall kingroot and all other king apps. Removing the icons is not the same. You could almost certainly have recovered from this (there are instructions on the forum for how to fix that), but once you factory reset, it was all over.

I hope this helps. In another post, you said you are a flagship gal. I usually run higher end phones, too. My last several phones were all off the top shelf. This is the first budget phone I've had in forever. Having said that, now that I've got it rooted and have custom recovery and running the Carbon ROM, I love it. It is fast, smooth, and BIG. In fact, I've done this whole post on it and I'm running a bunch of stuff in the background without any problems. I really hope you'll try again. Good luck.

Mine is the 4.4 Metro. I'll put you together a list of the steps and send it to you later. I also need to check the build number on my phone and make sure that yours is the same. It'll take me a little while, but I'll do it later.

I didn't run into this site until i bricked my device looking for answers, So now I know not to reset within setting here is the mistake because twrp didn't take and i removed king root I thought it was fine to reset. So if you cant get into reset from the buttons and twrp didn't work, how are you to reset other then within the software?

Just a quick check before I do this: If I restore my stock backup, will I lose TWRP? or will I just lose root but still be able to get back to TWRP to restore my Carbon backup?

If you didn't flash supersu before you made the backup you will lose root but you won't lose twrp. If you don't have root all you have to do is reboot the phone and start holding volume up as soon as the screen goes black and hold it down until you see the twrp splash screen.
 
You don't have to go back to stock I'm pretty sure you have the older B06 firmware and not the B10 that my phone has. I only asked before because I thought you might have still been on stock

you are right, but I could not do a reset with the buttons also twrp would not install, This phone was sent back to the company for repair on the system ui, It was a virgin phone. I never seen anything like this I could not reset but within the software and now bricked.
 
thank you so much for everyone helping me , I will stick with stock and purchase a flagship phone when I can afford it. This is my very first brick and my last.

If booting into recovery manually does not work then that means you don't have a working recovery. If you don't have a working recovery then trying to factory reset will brick your phone because you can't factory reset without a working recovery.
