Root ZV5 Update

Tezaki

Lurker
Just wanted to spread the word that I got a notification for the ZV5 update this morning. Not sure if I should let it install and see what happens :P

Just got the prompt update on my phone as well. Haven't had a chance to pull apart the zip file and see what all is in it, but I can guarantee you will lose root if you install it.

It's a huge update, almost 214 mb.

They usually push them out a little at a time so it may take awhile before you get a notification.

use a root explorer and go to /cache/

also im not sure i can use this zip... seems that it requires "installation" for the files to be right, they are all .p files

aha, I didn't realize it was there, is an oddly-long filename....I'm uploading my copy to my drive to see what's in it.

*.p files you say? Wonder if they're python files.

who has the zv4 update, did they do it the same way with the .p files? and in doing some reading i found out its a patch file that adds to the original apk.

Someone installed this and it bricked their device. Unsure if it was an error with the update, or what. Fortunately they had cwm and will be OK, but figured it was important to get the word out.

Got it right after i posted last. Immediately disabled Google play services notifications so it would go away from my status bar. It will never force update, right?

It shouldn't... That's just bad policy. Suppose it forces the update when someone has low battery, then the phone dies mid update.

No it won't force update, it'll just nag the crap out of you until you install it or somehow disable the notification.

Yeah, clicking the update notification takes you to a page that warns you to make sure battery is charged, and you click a button 'restart & install'.

BTW, initial look-through on this, seems there's a new recovery image, a new boot image (kernel?), and a new radio. The only one I could look inside was the radio.img (zip file) and it has a laf.img. I also see a lot of .apk.p files, I'm completely unsure if this is normal or not but appear to be updates for various system apps.
