What happened to the built-in ringtones?

thanks Hadron. you've explained why I have a few ringtones that I didn't download but also can't find when I check the phone's folders from my PC.

Now that I realize how big the ringtone universe is, I see understand why Motorola didn't both providing any. Seems that only old farts like me had never felt the need to stray from the ones that came with all of my previous phones.
@olbriar is one of those people, I think Hadron is one too, but it is hard :) Also you got Luna and Mike :)
Nah you are not too old, hell I might as well put my hat in the ring too.

Help cannot rename folderx to .folderx in Android 5.1

It's 2021 and I'm having this exact problem that @rbd is having.

I can rename my folder to anything but as soon as I put a . (dot) in front of the folder name, it gives me an error. This is with the pre-installed file manager on my Oneplus 5. In the past I used to be able to do it but one day it just stopped working. I'm not sure if it was a system update that caused this or not. Has anyone found a fix for this? (preferably the fix doesn't involve installing annoying 3rd party file manager apps filled with ads etc.)
have you tried other file manager apps? what about hooking the phone up to the computer and have the computer change the name?

Froot Loops for Boot Loops, Moto Edition

Why not you try to re-install the stock ROM? You can get it from Lolinet.
from here https://mirrors.lolinet.com/firmware/moto/????
I have no idea how to do that. Wouldn't the phone have to be rooted? I just hope it holds up, which it has been doing fine since yesterday.
if so, then i believe your phone's codename is minsk.. not sure though that motorolla has a tool to flash those files from lolinet. at least it is hard to find using a google search. it is definitely not as easy as a samsung phone.

edit: and no you do not have to be rooted to flash a firmware update.

Root Upgrade to android 7

Hallo there,

I have a very old Samsung Galaxy Ace 2x (GT-s7560m) and I would like to upgrade to android 7, i know its possible, using Odin but I cant find any Roms

help?

Hello, check https://forum.xda-developers.com/f/galaxy-ace-ii-android-development.1983/ for the Galaxy Ace2. You will find many up to date ROMs for it. One maintainer has posted a lot of ROMs and even Android 9, but you will need to re-size the /System partition in order to flash it.

8 inch tablets in 2021

i agree with @Hadron there are not many high end 8" android tablets out on the market today. i have the tab s2 8" tablet that came out many years ago. i think it is the only one that i can remember that offered an 8" version of the top of the line tablet. i still use it, but they battery is terrible now. but it was a great tablet that is super thin and extremely light weight. kind of been eying the tab s7 myself......maybe when i get my stimulus check, i'll get one.

CertPathValidatorException Accessing Site with AWS ACM cert

I'm trying to hit a web service on our site which uses an AWS issued cert. The site comes up fine with a browser on the phone but the app is getting "java.security.cert.CertPAthValidatorException: Trust anchor for certification path not found."
This code worked fine with Android 9.
Has anyone else ran into this issue? My iOS app has no problem hitting the web service only my Android java code.
Code below.
Java:
 URLConnection connection = null;
            BufferedReader reader = null;

            try {
                URL url = new URL(params[0]);
                //connection = (HttpURLConnection) url.openConnection();
                connection = url.openConnection();
                //connection.connect();

                InputStream stream = connection.getInputStream();

Google Calendar showing calendars that don't exist on my O365 account?

So, I'm baffled right now. A few months ago, I cancelled my O365 account. I decided yesterday to open it back up. It was a brand new mailbox. (It's OK because I transferred all my email and appointments to gmail and then transferred them back.) I'm trying to use the Google Calendar to view my O365 calendar. The main calendar seems to be syncing just fine. I've verified logging into OWA, the calendars are not there. But, I'm showing calendars that I had on my old O365 account that doesn't exist on the new O365 account. I've tried to delete and re-add my O365 account in android settings. I deleted the data for the Google Calendar to force it to redownload everything. It keeps pulling down these calendars that don't exist in the mailbox.

Television mood lighting

Coloured lights on the back of the TV that project onto the wall behind it. The colours are usually shown as changing to match/complementing the image on the screen (so different colours in different places around the set, changing as the image changes).

Philips, who are big on it, seem to promote it as enhancing the experience (it's usually shown with a white or pale wall behind the set in a semi-dark room, so it looks like the picture spreading out - which looks cool but, as I say, is not how my living room is arranged). There are 3rd party add-ons available, but I think Philips are the only people who integrate it with their sets.

I've seen one seller of a cheap 3rd-party add-on "mood lighting" claim it reduces eye strain, but they cited no evidence to support that claim (which means I did not take it seriously).

Help Hearing aids

My phonax, even in the most brutal conditions of snow and rain, somehow are water proof, but you have to kind of dig deep in your hearing aids, but also quickly wipe them off with a napkin out of a restraunt or even your own clothes :) But be warn though, always sit down when you are doing this :)

AUB3 update for Global S21 series

If you have the Samsung Galaxy S21 5G or S21+ 5G models, you may want to hold off this AUB3 update with the February Android Security patch.

According to a report from SamMobile...

"All the customer complaints come from people who own the Exynos variant, though it should be stressed that the issue most likely stems from software rather than Samsung’s new hardware. And according to some users, the battery might be draining at an accelerated rate due to an issue with cellular connectivity."

This issue does not appear to affect the Galaxy S21 Ultra according to SamMobile and I can confirm this. from my own experience.

To-date, Samsung has only rolled out this firmware update to their stock, nonicarrier, branded firmwares which could indicate that they may either issue a hotfix or wait until the March Android Security patch.
