Cricket (Non)Icon(ick)

I FINALLY found it. The timeline of googoo's many misdeeds (and counting) is from Creative Future. Although it was late, I read the whole thing and one of the links that go with it. It's a real eye opener. I think it would be enough for most people that googoo tracks them when it's not supposed to, or that a data breach exposed at least half a million users' data. What would people think if they realized that googoo supports lies about coronavirus, interference by foreign governments, the abuse of kids, slavery, and terrorism? Would that at last be sufficient to move them away from this repugnant megacorporation?

Apps Why does an image appear blurry on a hdpi screen when it has been alloted the max possible pixels

I want to put a 40 X 40 DP icon somewhere on my app's screen. Now according to the ratio (3:4:6:8:12:16) of 6 different logical buckets, I have provided an icon(.png file) with different sizes in 6 different drawable folders.

In my case, the icon sizes must be "MDPI = 40 X 40 PX, HDPI = 60 X 60 PX, XHDPI = 80 X 80 PX and so on" to maintain the same quality across devices at 40 X 40 DP.

After doing so, I'm testing the app on a device with an HDPI screen, which means it should look into the "drawable-HDPI" folder and render an image that basically fills up all the pixels (60 px in a space that has 60px(based on the screen)). But somehow, the icon appears blurry.

What went wrong here !?

Meanwhile, I tried putting an icon with much higher pixels(512 x 512 PX) in the HDPI folder and it renders with high quality.

The only confusion is - Despite filling out all the pixels contained in 40 DP on an HDPI display, how an image with more pixels(512) has better quality?

IOS type notification

I last asked about this in 2014...On an apple phone, when I get a text alert, it shows up on the screen when the phone is locked. As an option, It will show who the text is from but hide the content of the text. Does android allow this now? Last time I had an android phone my options were: 1) show who the text is from AND part of the text (no privacy). 2) Show the text alert but do not show who the text is from or any part of the text (thus forcing me to stop what I'm doing and unlock the phone to check. 3) Or hide all text alerts. Being that I am busy at work I would like to see WHO the text is from but HIDE the context of the text. This way it allows me to either ignore the text (from say sport group buddies) or read it (from wife, kids, etc) all at the same time keeping the message private. Thanks!

Help with finding "Tools" on my phone

Only if you set one up BEFORE you lose it. There are several options. The simplest one is to export all your data, passwords, etc to a CSV file. It's a tedious job to fill it in again but at least you can recover the data. Another one is to install a Roboform app in your cell phone that encrypts the password & supplies you with a simple code. You have to remember the code & if you lose your password, entering the code in the App will enable you to reset the password to a new one in your PC.. The old password is lost forever but who cares; you just reset it to a new one. I found all this stuff out AFTER I lost the password. I should have known better. I've had RF for 12 years, more or less & all these bells & whistles came out later. I never thought too much about it. Oh well.
Thanks for the help & listening.

Help Contacts split between phone & Google

Hi all,
I recently transitioned from a Nexus 6 to a Realme (Oppo) X2. Generally happy with it, except the phone saves a good proportion of my contacts locally, and as I access my Google contacts from other devices, I want thm all there - none saved to my phone. So there are two questions:
1. How to do I stop my phone from grabbing new contacts and saving them locally.
2. How to I move all my phone contacts to Google?
Thanks
Edwin

What's the best smartphone up to 300 dollars?

Here's a good article to read through as you start off searching for a good but relatively cheap phone:
https://www.nytimes.com/wirecutter/reviews/best-budget-android-phone/
But keep in mind the RAM issue will be tied to your budget limit. And it's all very relative -- depending on your needs and your expectations you might not even need a phone with a lot of RAM. Just my opinion but stick with any phone that has at least 4GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. More is better but that's the current offering for a lot budget class phones. And they're adequate for general smartphone usage on a day-to-day basis. If you're looking into high-res games and similar functionality, you're not going to be happy with a lessor phone so if that's the case you do need to up your spending limit as you'll require a phone with not just a good amount of RAM but adequate storage space plus a higher-end processor (both CPU and GPU)/higher res display.

But for the most part, a lot a of the battery discharging aspect will be also be dependent on you and how you set up your phone. If you like lots of eye-candy (multiple widgets all constantly updating themselves) and you prefer to have a lot of apps also frequently updating themselves (email app, texting app, Facebook, Instagram, etc.) than that's going to be effect the battery draw significantly. Most of these things are under your control, either by taking the time to check things in your phone's Settings menu or in each app's Settings/Options menu.
Just my opinion but Samsung phones tend to have a lot more extraneous apps and things that come pre-installed. Manufacturer and carrier installed apps tend to be cumbersome to fully remove so that's one thing. You can usually Disable a lot of them though so at least that will stop them from running in the background and taxing the battery. Of course some people actually like some of those Samsung apps so my bias against them is my own. Nokia and Motorola phones don't add the same level of fluff that Samsung does, their phones are closer to a clean Android install. And of course there's the Pixel line of phones, those are just Android as is. So you have a pretty wide range of viable choices to pick from. Don't forget to account for your chosen carrier. Not all phones work with all carriers (there are multiple cellular networks that rely upon different frequencies).
