Making Firefox or Chrome the default browser for Google Assistant

Not for me, either with Firefox, or Firefox Focus. When I use the Assistant, it defaults to Google, not Chrome. Are you saying that the Assistant, thru voice recognition, by saying "Hey Google", will use Firefox as it's default browser?

I disabled chrome, and it defaulted to Google. If I disable Google, Assistant stops working. I can search "within" Firefox using the microphone, but the VoIce Assistant will not use it.

I did find a way to have the Assistant default to Chrome. So now, at least I have the ability to add a shortcut without jumping thru hoops.

"Futurist" isn't an insult. It's a name I have for anyone who thinks newest is the best and tries hard to convince others to believe the same. They show up in public and online and deride anyone who dares prefer the older stuff. I can't find a more appropriate name for the behavior.

It's not something I would see as racist, denigrative, or insulting. They love 'future' tech and that name seems fitting.

If someone has a more fitting name for anyone who's into everything modern, 'the cloud' and flat UIs forever, newest is best and EVERYONE SHOULD BLINDLY BUY NEW NEW NEW then I'm open to suggestions.

An eSIM is a component soldered onto the logic board inside a smartphone.
Both do essentially the same thing, store your user account info with your chosen carrier. With a SIM card that info is added to the SIM card your carrier provided, and that's what you then inserted into to her phone. With eSIM, that same info is just typed directly into the eSIM chip that's already inside a phone.
An important factor is not all smartphones include support for eSIMs and not every carrier supports eSIMs. Her S20 does, but it also depends on if her carrier does too. But this is just so you're aware of what an eSIM is, she already has a SIM card and there's no needlessly switch over.

if the SIM card tray was bent in some way, that's not a good sign. Generally they're just plastic but not meant to be flexible so if it wasn't just flat and easily extendable that's not good. The little metal contacts on the edge of the SIM card need to match up directly with little metal contacts inside the phone, so something like a bent card tray will interfere with that. Thinking back, are you positively certain it wasn't flat?

Svim, I'm overwhelmed by your kindness, in explaining all that to me! With regard to the SIM card tray, yes, it had a very slightly curved appearance, and how I'm so sure of that is that, at first, the card would not stay where it had been placed — in its correct little rectangle, in the tray. (By the way, though the phone is not up-to-date, it was brand new and had not been opened, for the box was sealed.) When I attempted to close the drawer/tray, the SIM card kept flipping out. After I "bent it straight" (as it seemed to me, anyway), it stayed in place, and allowed the tray to be pushed in. Apart from the occasional dropped connections (mentioned earlier) with two relatives (both widely spaced in the UK), everything seems to be alright.

With regard to the difficulty my wife had in seeing the smaller details of photos, in her Files app, I set the View to "grid" instead of "list" as you suggested, and even my wife can now see what she needed to see. She is very pleased about that, and thanks you profusely for the tip, as I do.

I am a former marathoner and used to run for Brooks shoes. I'm still in pretty good shape and weight (180 lbs), but I'm retired now and my knees are shot, so my goals are more modest. I just want to make slow, steady progress at the gym without getting injured. Unlike my former self, my upper body is in much better shape than my lower (lumbar spinal stenosis and arthritic knees). I go to the gym (schedule and weather allowing) 3–4 times a week and exercise from home as well (walking dog, stationary bike, and pushups). I have found an excellent app for pushups called (appropriately enough) Push Ups. This app is like having a personal trainer, it charts your progress, and you can either do local or cloud backup.

It's not saving anymore. The screen flashes like it's going to take, and then I get the message. And it's happening everywhere. Even on the home screen with no app open.

First day went good. Battery dropped pretty quickly when I went swimming in the morning but, as I usually do, I topped it up during my shower after and had over 50% left when I hit the sack at 11. I can live with that! Didn't use the maps, Google, or talk on it - I usually dont - so I'm good! Now if I'm can figure out WFS I'll be set!

just an fyi this thread was from 2015.....clash of clans should be available in the app store on your kindle fire. once downloaded you just need to link your account to your ios account. this can be done in the game's settings.

i would not worry about it. it has to do with logcat for the app. basically it shows commands that the app is running.

Easily done with MacroDroid. I just created a macro to try the concept, and it worked.
  • Trigger: Connected to wifi network (Any Network)
  • Actions: Dark Theme (Enable)
  • Constraints: (optional)
I set it to trigger upon connection to any network. It can optionally be configured to trigger only on connection to specific SSIDs. It works with just a single trigger and action, but if you want, you can limit it with Constraints. For example, you could set the macro to only trigger between certain times. Or, say you wanted the macro to run when connected to any network but one... you'd set the trigger for any wifi network (as above), but then add a constraint to not trigger if you connected to that specific network.

How do I make it so that the phone requires a password to switch off?

It's not really possible because even on a device that DOES have that option in the OS (like Samsung), there are still ways to restart or power it off without knowing the lock. Basically as long as you hold the Power button long enough, the device will force restart itself

Instead, it is rumoured that an Android 14 One UI 6.0 Beta will be released in the next week or so by Samsung to their flagship phones and will be in 2 stages.

Phase 1 will include Korea, Germany and the U.S.A.

I meant salvage the hard disk for the disk itself, not necessarily for the data.

Depends on how you use it. I use Chrome OS (or rather, Chromium OS), and I have it saving files to the SD card. Of course, I'm using Chrome OS as Android rather than as the cloud-service-browser-in-a-box Chrome OS was originally meant to be.

Many phones these days can get brighter on auto brightness than when setting brightness manually - a short-term boost for these circumstances - so if you aren't using automatic brightness maybe try that and see. But as boosting brightness generates more heat they can only do it for a few minutes at a time, and may go quite dim after that as they need to cool down to avoid damage (actually if the phone is too hot it won't boost brightness in the first place, regardless of why it is hot). But if your phone can't get bright enough the only thing you can do is shade the screen to make it more readable.

Plot twist...

After two weeks of camera no worky, today it was spontaneously healed? changed its mind? overheard that I was contemplating putting it to pasture?

This makes zero sense but will allow me to kick the can down the road for now.

Thanks to your input, I'm leaning toward another motorola device when the time comes, although I wouldn't rule out a Pixel if the price was decent.
