Apps don't recognize active wifi/data connection - Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra 5G Exynos

For quite some time apps don't recognize the wifi or data connection on my Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra Exynos.
Messenger is saying "Connecting..."
Facebook is saying "You're currently offline"
Google Photos app has the same problem when trying to backup
I've reported the Messenger and Facebook bugs in their apps, but as normal you never get any response.

Today I saw my wifi lost connection a few seconds to the router while my cabled desktop keeps his connection.
I don't know if this problem is Android 12 or Samsung One UI 4.1 related. My phone is new so I don't need to reinstall it again after its April update. Mostly in general the problem is only a few seconds, but this bug occurs too much
Anyone any ideas? I've submitted Error Reports constantly via the Samsung Members app

April Security Update Ready

I had to check for it manually. Its small this time, only 27.48mb. I'm on Verizon, NE USA, so I'm not sure of others. What I've noticed about the Google updates compared to other manufacturers is that after it's installed, it states that it optimizes the phone. I have a 512 GB drive so it takes longer than the update. I never saw that on my LG or HTC phones. Have fun. (◉‿◠)

FastNote question please....

Have a small app "FastNote" which I have copied off the files to my pc from an older S4 which are all .txt based.
My newer phone J7 has a newer version of FastNote and for the life of me I can't find any mention of fastnote or the txt files anywhere. I only have 3 small files on my J7 and would like to add the ones from my old S4.
Any suggestions please....

Have both Swipe and Pattern to Unlock - cant' remove swipe

I can set the lock screen to none and I get no lock screen.

I can set it to Swipe and get a Swipe screen.

But if I set it to Pattern I get the Swipe screen first followed by the Pattern screen.

I've tried to set it to none, then restart, then set Pattern but the Swipe screen gets re-enabled.

Any advice on how to get just the Pattern screen as my one-and-only lock screen?

My previous Galaxy devices all behaved as expected - i.e. the single lock screen contained the Pattern challenge.

Thanks in advance

Help Outbound calls immediately ending / Inbound calls going to voicemail

Does anyone have any definitive solution to this problem? I must have tried and googled all the solutions out there to no avail. Out of nowhere my phone has developed this problem (samsung s8 SM-G960U).

The only remedy it seems is to clear/reset network settings. But doing so will only work for 1 call and then it will go back to ending my outbound calls automatically and redirecting inbound calls directly to voicemail. Then I would need to reset again and reenter APN settings which as you can imagine gets ridiculously burdensome.

Thoughts? Thanks!

Old phone number still shows up in Phone selector while logging into any app.

I've stopped using my old phone number 4 years back. But the number still shows up along with my current phone number in the Phone selector during logging into any app.
I've checked all my google settings to ensure that the old number is not present in any of my settings or even contacts. But it still shows up no matter if i factory reset the device
I don't want the old obsolete number to show up during at phone selector. I've attached a photo to show what the issue looks like.
please help.

Help Dropping data signal / limited data connection and ability to make calls - Motorola Moto G20

Hello everybody,

Is there anybody that can help me out with the following problem please?

It is a problem that occured some two months after I purchased the phone (purchased the phone online), I sent it to the repairer and I did not have access my phone for a few weeks, took quite some time. The problem was solved when I got the phone again, but after a few weeks and the same problem came back, so I was hoping somebody could help me solve it, as likely it is something I can solve myself.

I have also followed all steps on the Motorola Support website incl. factory reset.

The problem is that the network is very bad, the internet connection is very weak and WhatsApp messages come in sporadically. When I go to Google Chrome it says: no internet connection. Sometimes I am able to make a call, most of the times I cannot. Sometimes text messages come through, other times not. I tried to put in other simcards, the same problem. I put my simcard in another phone, then there is no problem with the simcard. I also tried both slots (it is a duo sim, same problem).

I look forward to hear to hear any possible solution.

Thank you,

Petra

Autofill service not shown in settings autofill service list

I don't expect functionality to work, but shouldn't this be listed in service? Please suggest if I am missing anything.

I have added Service tag in AndroidManifest.xml

Code:
<service
           android:name=".MyAutofillService"
           android:label="My Autofill Service"
           android:permission="android.permission.BIND_AUTOFILL_SERVICE"
           android:exported="true">
           <intent-filter>
               <action android:name="android.service.autofill.AutofillService" />
           </intent-filter>

</service>

MyAutofillService class looks like this,

Code:
package com.example.myapplication

import android.os.CancellationSignal
import android.service.autofill.*

class MyAutofillService : AutofillService() {
   override fun onFillRequest(p0: FillRequest, p1: CancellationSignal, p2: FillCallback) {
       TODO("Not yet implemented")
   }

   override fun onSaveRequest(p0: SaveRequest, p1: SaveCallback) {
       TODO("Not yet implemented")
   }
}
Added code to start service, I can see it's started.

Code:
startService(Intent(applicationContext, MyAutofillService::class.java))

Only thing that is not happening is it's not listed in Autofill service list.

Custom ROM installation assistance

I have rooted a few phones in my day, but I've never installed a custom ROM, so here's my situation. I have a Galaxy S4mini (SPH-L520) variant. It is currently rooted, but it still has the old KitKat Android version, which I think is 4.4.2. That version is proving outdated to the point of being ostensibly useless. Play store crashes. YouTube won't update to a version that works. The list goes on. I use this phone as a universal remote, because Samsung only had the IR blasters in the Galaxy 4, 5, and 6 series. I'll never understand why they discontinued this excellent feature. If I want to continue using this phone for my purpose, it's time for me to bite the bullet, and force an Android update, and I've been working on it for hours now, to no avail. Again, the phone is rooted. I have Odin. All of the sources I've found keep steering me to mediafire to acquire the ROM, but all of their downloads contain file types that are not what Odin requires, such as .tar, .md5, .smd, .tz, and .tgz. Google searches keep directing me to flash the stock firmware, which is obviously not my desired result. The videos I'm seeing aren't helping either. Obviously, I'm doing something wrong, or overlooking some key detail. Can anyone point me in the right direction, please? My email is [Removed] if that makes communicating easier. I look forward to any help here.

Which Android smartphone to buy

Hi all,
I am brand new to this forum and need your expert advice on a new smartphone. Which Android phone would you recommend for mostly calls/texting/navigation usage with:

- reliable updates/security for at least 2-3 years
- long battery life at least 24 hours
- NO bloatware
- price point - lower the better but <$400

I do not care for/use:
- camera
- download/watch movies/music etc

Google pixel 4a 5G was optimal from what I gathered but it has been discontinued. Pixel 6 is overkill for my use and even pixel 5a 5G is over the top. Motorola Edge 20 Lite seems a good fit but how reliable are their updates?

Any and all advice much appreciated! Thanks.

Help Tablet Once was Fast, Now is Slow

Hello all! Long-time Reader, first-time poster.

So, the long short is that I have a tablet that used to be very fast, and now is very very very slow, and I have no explanation why.

It's an Asus Memo Pad 7 LTE. Back when I had a slow and unreliable phone, this was my mobile gaming / YouTube device. I used it to play Minecraft, Star Wars KOTOR (an original Xbox port), Call of Duty Mobile, and lots of other great games. I was probably averaging 30-40 fps. Totally useable, and I was quite happy with it.

After sitting powered off in a climate controlled desk drawer for over a year, I thought I'd get it out to play some of those old games. It was UNPLAYABLE. Frame rates were suddenly 1 to 2 fps, and I was constantly bombarded with "app not responding" messages from games and background processes.

Here's the kicker...

My brother has the exact same tablet, purchased at the same time. While mine sat in the drawer, he was wondering what to do with his old potato. "Play some games!" I said. "It's actually really fast!". He installed the previously mentioned Star Wars Game, and found that he could hardly move, let alone swing a lightsaber.

"That's weird..." I thought. "Mine really is fast. I'll show you!" After running back to my house and pulling out the old brick, I found it had the exact same issue. A device that once could compete with a laptop was now unable to pass the lock screen without showing "System UI is not responding."

I've tried the following:

•Factory reset
•Clear cache
•Disable unused apps
•Set BG process limit to 0
•Enable "Don't keep apps"
•Check CPU usage for resource hogs

I've completely come up short. I'm beginning to think there is some conspiracy afoot, like a built-in "slow down device" countdown that forces you to get a new device when yours gets too outdated. Silly, I know.

My main question is WHY? HOW? WHAT? Mainly the first one. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Over my head with android 11

I'm not a heavy cell phone user. I rarely use it except in the car. None of the instructions I get from searching the internet seem to apply to my Motorola G Pure phone. Perhaps someone can help.

The major issue is Android Auto. I can install the app but the OS loses the icon. I can't open it or delete it. I can't retrieve the icon. I've found all kinds of solutions on the internet but none of them work. I can't pair it to my car possibly because I can't open it. I would like to delete it and allow the car to load it into the phone. I need help. I know the app works with the phone because this one replaced one that was lost.

An irritant is the phone's habit of sounding an alarm every time there is a notification and none of the notifications matter a whit to me. I would like to shut the alarm off. As an added benefit it would be nice to end the notifications as well.

Thanks in advance for any heip.

"how to program an app to display in full screen?

Before Android 11, I've adjusted my app to fullscreen easily

My old phone had the camera hole and base buttons outside the screen area, my new phone has a camera hole and the base buttons inside a screen.

With few settings, my app was fullscreen in the old phone.

Styles.xml

HTML:

AndroidManifest.xml

HTML:
<application
       ...
       android:theme="@style/AppTheme.NoActionBar">
    </application>

In my new phone with Android 11, I've searched everywhere on Internet. I've tried many different solutions. In the end, I put in my app the following code in that start of OnCreate().

Code:
if (Build.VERSION.SDK_INT >= Build.VERSION_CODES.P) {
      window.attributes.layoutInDisplayCutoutMode =
          WindowManager.LayoutParams.LAYOUT_IN_DISPLAY_CUTOUT_MODE_SHORT_EDGES
    }
    if (Build.VERSION.SDK_INT >= Build.VERSION_CODES.R) {
        WindowCompat.setDecorFitsSystemWindows(window, false)
     else {
          @Suppress("DEPRECATION")
          window.setFlags(
            WindowManager.LayoutParams.FLAG_FULLSCREEN,
            WindowManager.LayoutParams.FLAG_FULLSCREEN
          )
        }

I wanted a narrow margin near the base buttons and the camera hole, like Chrome.

But all can I get is a wide margin between the app and button (downward) and between the app and the camera hole (upward):

qHxyJ.png

But I would want a narrow margin:

3PEds.png

similar to Chrome browser for Android:

Xbjtm.png

How can I do this programatically?

I haven't been able to find a single clue to my problem in Internet (and StackOverflow)

I also haven't been able to figure out how to identify if a given cell phone has the camera hole on the screen or if it has the base buttons on the screen. It looks like it's based on DisplayCutout, WindowInsets, boundingRectTop and boundingRectBottom, but there is no real and clear usage example in Internet.

Help Lose mobile data when leaving wifi signal.

Ive recently got a pay monthly contract with Tesco Mobile. The phone I chose was a Samsung S21 FE 5G.

Number transfer went through fine. Every time I leave home or work (Wifi) I lose my mobile data and have to turn on/off airplane mode.

Ive spoke to Tesco mobile and they have sent me through a few troubleshooting options.

1. Take out sim clean it and insert again (No luck).
2. Send new settings for network (No luck).
3. Reset Network settings (No luck).

I can still call and send test but just can't do anything which uses my mobile data.

Anything else I can try before sending the sim back as I would be out of contact for 5 days.

Thanks
Dan

Stylus problems AGAIN

I know I must be an idiot. If I weren't I wouldn't have gotten another Moto G Stylus. I hate that it's the sucky newer kind with that smashed in power button where it's supposed to stick out, but it's almost impossible to tell from the pictures. I wish there were some way to force them to go back to the right way. This one was working just fine until today. Now it's done the boot loop thing three times. I'm probably lucky it's working right now. No, it's not the charge because it was almost full, and storage is at less than half, not to mention that I have plenty sd. Is there some fatal flaw with these things? Why can't we get a phone with a lot of internal storage, high sd caoacity, and a removable battery? Maybe if enough of us loudly demanded it, it would finally happen.
