Apps Android App Development Considerations

Hi All,

We are new to app development so looking for feedback from the community. Some of the questions may be stupid so please bear with us. We are planning to build an application that will be highly data intensive and used by large number of users simultaneously (hopefully).
Questions.
1. Is it always better to build native application or cross platform development frameworks like Xamarin works pretty good as well. We have limited budget to trying to reach as large customer base as possible before we have enough budget to build individual platform native apps. Thoughts!
2. What % of people in US and world wide use android based devices (so we can figure what platform to first build for)
3. Are there back end architecture available for highly data intensive and scalable apps that someone can point to so we can use that as reference as we are building the app.
4. Any other gotchas or considerations we can keep on mind as we build our application based on your own experiences.
thank you for your feedback!

Android Startup Gets Stuck at the restore function

[GALLERY=media, 1469]Screenshot_20220123-121212_Data_Restore_Tool by Cant_back_it_up posted Jan 23, 2022 at 5:58 PM[/GALLERY]

I factory reset my phone and went to restore it from a backup and now when I click the next button, nothing happens.

Any advice on what the issue is. Or any help in a way around this. I cant seem to figure out how to download the backup either.

Samsung Care+ is a joke

so i usually get Geek Squad protection for my phones......but when i bought the Z Fold 3, i could not outright buy it because their promotions only included plans with providers. i could not get the sale price on an unlocked phone. and between verizon and samsung, samsung had the better deal and i figure i am protected with samsung care+.

so now my phone is having some major issues. the front screen is not working and now my wifi(does not turn on at all) and bluetooth (can't watch or stream as the video is slow or freezes when contected to a bluetooth device. i turn it off and video works fine) is acting up. i am going to try and flash a new firmware to see if that fixes my wifi and bluetooth issues.

i was going to have Samsung experts look at wifi and bluetooth in addition to my front screen, but i have to be put on a waiting list to have them just look at the device. my appointment is for Feb 7th......FEB 7TH!!!!!!!!!!:mad::mad::mad:

if i knew this i might have tried to get onto verizon's insurance or maybe just bit the bullet and purchased thru Best Buy and signed up for Geek Squad support.

i could have gone and sent the phone in, but i was told that the time frame would have been the same.

Restoring a Google Drive Backup to Samsung Galaxy

After several years of faithful service, my Nokia 7.1 phone has finally bitten the dust after an unfortunate incident with a large volume of water.

I've ordered a Samsung Galaxy S10 as a replacement, and my Nokia was backed up to Google Drive, however, I can't seem to find how to restore the Google Drive backup to my Nokia S10.

SmartSwitch isn't an option because my Nokia won't switch on.

Many thanks in advance!

Apps Compass app with USB OTG connectivity

I need to obtain the compass heading for a hardware project. I thought it would be simple to obtain compass heading from an Android phone via the USB OTG port or via Bluetooth,

Is there an Android compass app or any other app that can transfer compass direction via USB OTG using serial protocol, say at 100 readings per second? Or maybe the same data via Bluetooth serial?

Is there a compass app builder who would like to add this feature to their compass app?

Thanks in advance.

Complete reset

Have a Mediatek tablet which is fine as backup device generally but can't cope with installing some apps When I use an analytical app it says amongs other things that it's an Android 9.0 KITKAT which I think is way out of date ( 4.4.2?) so that explains some incompatibility issues
A check with Magisk says it's not rooted.
Not bothered at all about " backing up" anything on there so can I go back to a basic system - Android 9.0? with stick ROM and less bloatware is as clean as can be and start from scratch ? Would appreciate any advice from anyone who has had similar thoughts and best way to achieve this target.
Many thanks OtRod

Help Compass App with external USB OTG or BT connectivity

I need to obtain the compass heading for a hardware project. I thought it would be simple to obtain compass heading via the USB OTG port or via Bluetooth,

Firewall not allowing local connections

I've tried a couple of firewalls now, noroot and netpatch, and neither of them allow local connections. My phone is using wifi, and that works fine, and the firewalls allow me to choose which apps can access the internet. But I run Boinc on the phone, which is monitored and controlled by a Windows 10 PC on my network. Despite allowing Boinc on the phone access to wifi, and it can get tasks from the internet, the Windows PC cannot see it so I can't monitor or control it that way. Are there any firewalls that don't mess about with local access like this?

word "new" in my code has no colour in android studio

I am trying to write code for BLE data transfering and i got a problem in my code. The word new as you can see below is supposed to be kind of yellow in my code but it has no colours. Is this a problem cause it annoys me.
Java:
private void bluetoothONMethod() {
    buttonOn.setOnClickListener(new View.OnClickListener() {
        @override
        public void onClick(View view) {

        }
    });
}

The beginning of the end

I'm sitting in my "bubble" called home, reading and watching the news and starting to think

Prove me wrong

Won't connect to Wi-Fi says Saved

My apartment neighbor has an LG Stylo 4 with expired Metro PCS monthly service.

Before he got his own Xfinity service, he used my router.

After his Xfinity service was installed, the tech connected his phone to his modem/router. It worked. It’s the same make and model of modem/router.

But now, weeks later, his phone automatically connects to my router.

I went into his phone Settings, Network, WIFI, and his router appears on the list under mine. I clicked on his Router and hit Connect. It did not ask for the password, it started to connect but then said SAVED and reconnected to mine, although sometimes mine will also end up as SAVED which I attributed to signal strength. I told it to forget mine and that didn’t help. I did the same for his, re-entered the password and that did not help.

So I tried connecting with my LG Premier Pro LTE (my Tracfone). It connects to both my router and his when I’m in his apartment or mine.

I find it hard to believe that his router has just started blocking him and not me.

He doesn’t understand cell phones or Wi-Fi but he relies on Whatsapp to stay in contact with his children around the globe.

So, to repcap

His phone did hook up to his router. Now it won’t but it still hooks up to mine … same model and service provider but I don’t know if there have different settings.

I don’t want to try anything too risky because at least he can communicate with family around the globe.

Any suggestions?
