As backup for the bank card, I'd like to get an NFC-capable Android smartphone.

Ideally, it should be < €/$200 new (I don't mind buying it second-hand, so it could more expensive new), and have a < 5,5" screen — besides the extra weight, I find Xiaomi Redmi Note 5's 6" screen a bit big, and liked Huawei P9 Lite's 5,2" better. Considering the price, I guess I'll go for Chinese brands again.

Does NFC work well on all phones, or are some clearly better/worse than others?

kind of a weird question due to some special circumstances:

I have an older (ca. 2019) Amazon 10" Fire tablet running something like FireOS 7.xx which AFAIK was still based on Android 5.x. I also have a Galaxy J-something smartphone (running Android 7.x IIRC) somewhere which I can't find atm, unfortunately (I've been using non-Android phones for years). So this is about said Amazon tablet primarily.

I have the Google Play store installed on the tablet (as per several instructions on the net), and it generally works fine. Since I installed the Google Play app, I only ever got apps from there.

Now I'd like to buy the Caustic 3 synthesizer Android app, which is still widely regarded as the best app of this kind for Android. It may (or may not) be abandoned, but you seemingly can still buy it at Google Play. Last version was (and probably will alway be) 3.2 from 2013.

This app comes as a freely downloadable base app and a separate for-purchase "Unlock Key" (no IAP). If I look it up in the Play Store from my desktop PC, it looks like both are still in the store and most importantly, you can still purchase the unlock key.

However, if I try to find it in the Play Store bolted-on to the Amazon tablet, both are nowhere to be found. That's a bit weird since the app should run fine on Anroid 5.x. Amazon's own (kinda joke of an) app store has the (v3.1!) program itself, but not the unlock key.

There have been some reports of people running the Amazon-downloaded app with a Google Play-acquired unlock key, but I can't see how that could work.
In my case, this would require me to purchase the unlock key in some way off the tablet (maybe inside the desktop browser?), and then to somehow get it onto the tablet and hopefully, the unlock magic would still work then.

I never read anything about downloading the APK files of your own purchases directly from Google Play to anything other than the final target device and, even if such an APK download was feasable, I have no idea whether or not the licensing-DRM-whatever magic can be made to work after an APK transfer.

Please note that I'm only ever talking here about making a legitmately purchased app work and not about 'hacks' or such of any kind.

Could someone tell me if and how this could work?

I apologize in case this has been discussed before in another thread but my search turned up nothing that hit the spot (downloading your "own" APKs and "messing with it").

Is it possible to use a tablet like a Samsung Galaxy tablet with android auto? I am not talking about using the tablet as the head unit. I am talking about using the tablet instead of my phone to connect to AA on my infotainment screen.

I was stuck in the download Mode in my A51. Using SamFW FRP tool 3.31 i exit the download mode. Now only the blue screen pops. When I click the volume up to enter download mode it goes to a black screen mode and nothing appears in my PC. How can i fix this?

Hello. I have been having to make some calls to doctors' offices recently, and have been using speaker mode while holding. The screen stays on the entire time the phone is sitting on the table, and it got me thinking that that just uses up battery quicker than necessary.

Is there a way to make the screen turn off during a speaker call when the phone is just setting on a table, or in your hand?

Raphael, my Greyhound, is gone. He was 11 1/2 and retried to my couch in October '12 after running 175 races. He'd been slowing down for a while, mostly just slept and started losing his his appetite 2 weeks or so ago but totally stopped eating and drinking Tuesday night. He had ongoing issues from a tick borne disease and had kidney disease and he was recently diagnosed with cancer. So Wednesday he napped in the sun and I got him a rotisserie chicken that he did eat but it was time to say goodbye let him go. He was such a goofy animated silly sweetheart, I'll miss him always.

I have a Pixel 6 and I find the security model for the Photos application to be confusing. When I take a screenshot this does NOT appear in the default image view when I start Photos. But if I select "Library" then there is a sub-option for Screenshots. Is that being saved into the cloud? How do I prevent images from going to the cloud by default, and is there a way to allow photos but not allow screenshots?

Billed as the Great American Eclipse, the USA is in for a real treat April 8th 2024. A total solar eclipse will pass through the states starting in Texas and ending as it's shadow crosses the New England states. It's path of totality will last around four minutes and will be a wow experience for anybody that is in that path.

For many years I planned to be in the path of the 2017 total eclipse. It was a bucket list item. I talked my buddies and my grown children to meet me in Nebraska to witness the eclipse. Little did I know just how rewarding and awe striking the experience would be. We all vowed to do the next total solar eclipse which will happen next year. The ideal spot to witness the eclipse is in Texas. As the shadow moves NE, the angle of the sun and moon cross the states in an ever increasing rate, making your time of the experience shorter the further NE you are. I tried last night to put a hold on a lodge on Tawakoni Lake last night that accommodates 12 guests with cool amenities and found the place was already booked for the 7th, 8th, and 9th. That's a Sunday through Tuesday booking. Obviously it is booked for the eclipse and I didn't plan ahead as soon as I should have. The point is, the eclipse is that cool of an experience and I'm not the only person that must be in that shadow.
