Root Unrevoked for Incredible (Recovery reflash tool/Easy root method)

you run the unroevoked tool with the phone on like normal as in not in revovery

+1

Just turn the phone on normally, then hook up via USB and double click the Unrevoked icon on your PC. It'll take over from there and let you know it's progress. As long as you have the drivers installed per the html link that comes in the bundle, you should be good to go.

After it's installed, you access the console via recovery.

I've watched the 10 minute root video and have been reading about root and stuff, but what does this Unrevoked stuff do?

it lets u do NAND back ups which is a backup of everything on your phone... and it lets you into recovery everytime... and flash roms

I'm similarly confused. The 10 min video was a complete brick wall for me and I've tried several other tricks as well. Still can't get it and each new way of rooting is kinda confusing. I guess I'll try to go through the thread again and see if I can get it. :(

NAND for those that have a question about that. Once you get the Clockmod Recovery working, You need to do a backup. reboot into recovery and and scroll down to nandroid, then do a full system backup, you are going to want to do this everytime before you update a ROM. That way if it does not work, you have something to fall back on. We like to abbreviate nandroid with NAND.

It does lots of stuff but #1 is you can get back into recovery without all the Voodoo. Just vol+power select recovery type ADB SHELL and boom, nice.
Oh and I guess you can flash new ROM'S also ( I haven't tried a new ROM yet myself but will soon.)

My unrevoked says waiting for device.I have a feeling that I do not have the correct drivers. When I plug my phone in my comp I get the safe to remove USB icon. Can someone please explain to me how iI can update the drivers. I have the extracted zip folder already, I cant find which file to update in the computer management folder. Any help is appreciated.
Thanks

Uninstalled HTC Sync and I am all good. installed jager 1.6.2 and new kernal. Everything seems to be real smooth! Thanks everyone

Use the html link provided in the download bundle. Easy to follow link for download and install of the necessary drivers. Also remove HTC sync if you have it installed on your computer.

I guess my question is what file do i install the drivers in when im in the conptuer management. I have the drivers on my computer but i have not manually installed them yet. The directions say to select file from list on right to update drivers, but which file is it? All i see is mass storage files, nothing with android in it.
Also when i plug my phone in the bubble pops up on my pc saying you can safely remove usb drive, instead of trying to detect my device.
Thanks

Sounds like you're connecting as a disk drive with the phone powered on normally. You want to power off your phone, then hold volume down and the power button to boot into hboot. Then connect via USB at that piont. Your device should be listed in device manager as Other Devices > Android 1.0.

Righ click on that and update driver. After it loads it, you should see Android Phone > Android Bootloader Interface in the device manager. Then you know you got it.

I had the same problem. On the instructions file the first thing it says is to download the file android usb drivers. Lol I didnt realize this was another file I had to download. One you download that you have to unzip it and put in somewhere on your computer you can easily find. So when you go to update android 1.1 and browse files you can select that android usb drivers folder you just unzipped. Does that make sense?

I thought all I needed to download was the package for recovery flash but there is that one more file to download.

Alright, did the drives, it went through a couple of reboots but now the phone has rebooted completley and the software is sitting there saying "waiting for reboot"

Nandroid Backup:

1. Shut the phone off.

2. Boot the phone holding the volume down + power button.

3. Choose "recovery" then click the power button. (htc incredible logo will show momentarily)

4. Once in the clockworkmod recovery console press vol down and highlight "nandroid".

5. Click the joystick button to enter the nandroid screen.

6. You will have 3 options: Backup, Restore, Advance Restore.

7. Choose "Backup" (highlighted by default).

8. Click the joystick to create the backup. (This may take several minutes to finish)

9. Click the power button to go back 1 menu, and highlight "reboot system now".

10. You are done.

Within the clockworkmod recovery app you will use the joystick button to select and the power button to go back to a previous menu. The volume up and down will move the selection cursor up or down the list.

I know that information must seem elementary but to me (a root noob) it was VERY useful. Rooted tonight then installed unrevoked tool and took a backup thanks to this info. Thanks so much!

One last noob question. I rooted (just allows su access to my understanding) and there's no software associated with that. With the NAND, there's software that was enabled or installed so that I can make these backups (which I did as instructed and created my first backup), now my question is, I have about 20-16GB sd cards and have them LOADED with movies/music/etc...will it kill anything if I remove the SD card that's in now and insert one with my movies?

Nope. The only thing you might want a particular SD card for is if you have certain files/folders that require data to run apps. Case in point is the android.tether folder for use of wireless tethering. You won't break root. Swap away and if you have a Nand backup on there, copy it to your PC also so you always have a backup to the backup. Stuff happens to cards. ;)

That is where I'm not 100% because it's also in the applist of course. Not sure if it needs to be on the card originally and after that you're good or if it needs to continually be on the card to be referenced.

What I do know is people have experienced problems running the program post root only to find their folder or files within are missing from the card. To err on the safe side, my thought was to always keep it near and dear in the event it's required at all times. Hopefully somebody else can clear up that question with a 100% definitive answer. I'd like to know too.
