Root [ROM] Android 2.2 FRF84B (Clean, Untouched, Virgin)

I installed this...one weird thing was that after install SetCPU was no longer installed...I had been using it on BBv0.4, so I don't know what happened.

I installed SetCPU from the market and it got root access fine when I launched it and OC'd to 800MHz.

This ROM does seem like it may run a little hotter than BBv0.4 was running, but too early to be sure....anyone else seeing higher temps?

Well, I'm not sure why this happened...but I went into the Superuser Permissions app and saw that SetCPU was not allowed to access root. So I manually allowed it and now we are at full OC.

On another note, has anyone themed this yet? How is everyone's battery life doing?

Did this on my install. Then keep rebooting endlessly SetCPU did not like my over clocking. Running the C_01.43.01P Baseband Had to do a nandroid flash back to 2.1 root while at work. I was down below 5% battery and it would not charge due to the constant rebooting. Phone is rooted at 2.1 now and completely charged.

Just installed this. Tried running SetCPU and it said it did not detect root access. Curious as to why this is. Every other app so far has detected root (other than TU and when I reinstalled busybox it picked it up). Anyone else having this problem?

I had a 1.26 ghz kernel and could only get 600 out of this Rom. This is exaxtly what caused my Droid to freak out and why I am temporarily back Rooted 2.1.

DANGER WILL ROBINSON! DANGER!

Anyone that flashed it able to check if the kernel supports the conservative setting in setcpu?

I don't know, but I'm gonna continue to run this until something better comes along. Something about the name of this thread made my decision for me. Giggity.

I don't think so. Adobe Flash Showcase comes up for me, but I think it's just a bookmark to a website. Then again, I'm running BBv4.

yea well pete most likely changed stuff in the build.prop for BB v.4 which could make it not show up.

It does show up for me right now and I am curious if it does on this rom too

I could not find adobe in the market. still had it on my SD so I had to load it from there.

I'm running the Virgin (Odexed) with no OC and no theme. One thing that I did notice was that typical usage (was golfing yesterday, using gps, email, text, etc.) the battery usage is way better than when I was on stock 2.1. It got to the point where I was thinking that the battery indicator for this ROM might not be working because it wasn't moving, finally toward the end of the day it started to move.

Same thing with me and I'm running BBv4 themed. Not sure if it's OC'd. But I was surfing the hell out of the internet yesterday and DLing all my apps and everything and after a few hours my battery was only down like 30%. When I surfed on 2.1 I could watch my battery empty itself.

I'm running this virgin build w/ the stock kernel @ 800Mhz and this seems to be the smoothest, most stable Froyo ROM I've used.

I installed via CW and I did not wipe data/cache coming from Kangerade.

Thanks Pete!

Just took the plunge from the FRF57 that was in RM. The only issues I had were: I had to completely wipe even though I was coming from a previous FroYo rom; Maps took forever to load the first time, with it additionally complaining that I needed an internet connection; busybox wasn't pre-installed.

Otherwise, everything else seems to be working great! I have loaded my own custom icons for the status bar so root, MM, and theming should all work fine.

I'm currently running the Virgin (Odexed) ROM. Anyone notice that you can't silence/mute the phone from the unlock screen anymore?? it only goes to vibrate. And when I'm 'in' the phone the ringer volume won't go any lower than vibrate... there is no silent.

Known issue with Froyo - if you go into Settings --> Sound you can adjust the vibrate setting as follows:

  • Always (allows down to vibrate without a silent setting)
  • Never (allows down to silence without a vibrate setting)
  • Only in Silent Mode (allows down to vibrate without a silent setting)
  • Only when not in Silent mode (allows down to silence without a vibrate setting)

There is no way to have both vibrate and silence anymore as independent settings, AFAICT.

Nice summary, John...

I've been running this since yesterday (I know, a bit of a record for me, I'm quite proud).

I applied Fab's nextheme to it, as well as a stock fonts zip (eyes can't read the cool theme font) and for what I use my phone for 95% of the time (calls/email/calendar/text/podcasts/nav) it's been very good.

I did get a lock-up when I tried to log into my Youtube account...had to do a battery pull to recover from that. Haven't tried again, as every battery pull costs me multiple reboots to get stable and I'm losing my patience with that... ;)

Spent the whole day w/out even thinking about changing ROMs...wow, what an odd experience. :D

Funny you should say that - I put Pete's BB 0.2.0 on my phone, installed NexBeast theme, then made the slight change to make the ROM 0.2.1 that Pete made - and haven't thought about flashing since. That's what, a week? 2?

That goes to show you just how much I ma loving ForYo....

Worked! Changed the setting and now my slider is for silent.
Thanks.

Im using the beautiful widgets (vibrate and silent) and they're both doing their jobs quite well.

How does your clean, untouched virgin beauty differ from this almost virgin, if at all?

For one, the version number is "FRF84B by Pete" ;)

Seriously I'd like to know too. Maybe the droid-life one has an unknown original source, whereas I believe Pete said he extracted the files from an SBF image.

Well that's good enough reason to try it. Just installed it. So far definitely smoother and snappier.

Thanks Pete!

On a sidenote, it's truly amazing how generous Pete and others are, and how easy it is to install new ROMs and switch back and forth using ROM Manager. I thought only code warriors could have this much fun. :D
