Iphone 4 vs HTC Incredible

Threads merged.

Comparisons between the Incredible and other handsets are a valid topic for the forum, but please restrict threads to one per comparison to make finding information easier for everyone.

Sorry my bad, didn't see there's another thread going on this.

Because of the far better video camera, and facetime, I traded in my DInc on day 30 and now own two iphone 4's.

Here are my impressions:

Screen quality: iphone much clearer indoors but with less pop, and only marginally better in sunlight. Droid in sunlight: useless, iphone: poor but useable. iBooks on iphone is great.

Video: night and day especially in low light; iphone kills droid inc.

Still: despite the 3 fewer MP on iphone, much better light and over/underexposure handling than droid.

Battery life: I bought the Seidio (sp?) 1750 from amazon and still the Dinc battery life was poor; had to car-charge or usb-charge during the day for medium use.
iPhone: battery equally as poor! MUST charge during day if you like Pandora, use email alot. This is a surprise. iPhone 4 has poor battery life just like the Dinc! I would venture to say worse.

YouTube: Dinc kills iphone, with High Quality using 3g. iPhone High Quality only with WiFi.

General surfing: Dinc kills iphone, since Northern NJ 3G on ATT is SLOOOW.
May be a deal killer. And, my first day with iphone - 2 dropped calls.

Maps/Google: Dinc kills iphone w the Nav.

UI: Dinc wins again, with fun widgets and most important, a virtual HOME and BACK button. Using a real button to do everything is a pain on iphone after lightly touching the home key.

Call quality: the guy who says call quality was poor on Dinc didn't have an iPhone 4; Dinc kills iphone with the best call quality I have ever heard.

Speaker: Dinc louder, better equalization, less mid range/tinny than iphone. Had both playing Pandora, and iphone sounded much worse.

Size: iphone thinner but feels heavier and more delicate/breakable. I liked the soft rubber back on the Dinc.

Apps: funny, iphone apps cost alot more. Seem like rip offs to me. Many in the $6-$10 range.

there you have it. Will keep the iphone for a while. If you don't want to carry around a video cam, iphone is for you. And, facetime is briliant and a keeper for now....

Thanks for the fair comparison, I wonder how the cameras will compare after the update.

Seems like a fair comparison, and evenly matched. I am, however, going to have to merge your thread with the iPhone 4 vs Incredible thread, as the mods only want 1 comparison thread of that phone.

Well, I went to ATT and tested out Iphone 4. I have only done one test, using Dinc's stock browser against Iphone 4's stock browser on WIFI. My friend and I pick a site, that both browsers have not visited.

Result is, webpage on Eclair loaded 4-5 seconds faster than IP4's. I wonder how much Froyo would smoke iOS4.

I'm the same as you, I didn't even know about the Incredible until searching for Verizon Iphone rumors then saw an article for the Incredible and after looking into it more I jumped on it and don't regret it at all. The only thing that I really want on the Incredible is a front facing camera so I can video chat.

Now with that said if an Iphone comes to VZW and it blows my mind I'll jump from the Android bandwagon, same goes for the W7 phones.

***IMO Iphone looks so much sexier than the DInc though

IPhone is much sexier I would of never switched if the service would not suck. Iphone is much better and its very user friendly. So far I am not even happy with the service on Inc. Waiting for the X

Apps: funny, iphone apps cost alot more. Seem like rip offs to me. Many in the $6-$10 range.

The apps in the app store are also more numerous and the quality is much higher on the iPhone.

The clear difference really is in games. Android is swarming with functionality applications where as iPhone is game oriented.

I think in terms of apps, iPhone has better apps at a higher price.

That right there sounds like a bunch of media defined "user prefence" to me, so basically useless.

Now I'm curious to see how the galaxy s stacks up, al things considered, it should be superior in every way.

Vid chat not restricted to wifi.

Super AMOLED means better colors and better visibility in sunlight. Plus the extra .5" is more than welcome.

Same processor and ram. (Basically)

And the sprint version has 4G and a slideout qwerty, which is right up my ally, being I love slide outs and live in a nice healthy blanket of WiMax.

Superior UI - customizable 100%.

Wifi tether.

Swappable memory & battery(a must for heavy users like myself. Quick battery swap and I'm good to go vs fumbling for a charger all the time)

The cam.. we'll see. The lense on the galaxy series is huuuge. So it might just stack up.

It also have that 6 axis gyroscope, how much better will that be than an accelerometer/compass? Marginally for now. We'll see.

Browser - android wins hands down. When 2.2 hits, iphone4 will be like dial up in comparision. specially with the network superiority of vzw & sprint.

All and all, id say samsung got their act straight on this one and designed the perfect android phone. (For now)

Apps are the only thing that occasionally make me wish I had an iPhone. :(

Words with Friends
Chess with Friends
iCam
WhatTheFont
some font app I forget the name of
several other design apps I forget the names of
Fruit Ninja
Angry Birds

I just named all those off the top of my head and I've used an iPhone for less than 5 hours, total, in my life. If I actually had one, I'm sure I could go down a looooooong list of apps I would like.

And there's one on android that tops them all. The phone. (A working one, that is.)

There's no need to exaggerate. iPhones work, and I don't hold phones in the way that is required to kill the iPhone. So that doesn't hurt me, but not having those design apps I mentioned DOES hurt me. I'm a design student.

I have had no issues on a personal level with the device. I go by db. If you hold it like they claim, the death grip, the bars drop but the signal remains constant.

That being said, having AT&T is a flaw unto itself

Ok you just made me chuckle. What kind of serious design student would need a design app on a phone? That's just absurd.

The death grip isn't an issue. It is an awkward way to hold the phone and I doubt most hold it that way.

I definitely miss some of the apps. on the Iphone no doubt. Almost every app. that is on both phones (free ones) work better on the I-phone for some reason. Either way, I find the Incredible much a MUCH more enjoyable experience overall.

One more thing I should add: When I show off my new iphone 4 to the interested masses, guess which app has the most wow factor? Google Maps/search/street view!
I do believe the google force will eclipse Apple in 1-2 years. Buy Google stock.

Haha, have you seen Google stock? It's ridiculously expensive. It has been since it went public, and has only went up from there. But yeah, buying it would certainly be a good idea for those who can afford it.

As for Google surpassing Apple in a couple years, yeah I agree. It's kinda a repeat of history. Apple was the computer to have back in the 80s or early 90s, and then PCs and Windows came a long and look where we are today.

Same thing seems to be happening with iOS and Android. Unless Apple does something revolutionary. ACTUALLY revolutionary, not just claiming "We've changed everything. Again."

That is like saying that oil paint is inferior to acrylic. The last thing art would be is linear, so why should all artists use the same mediums?

I've seen plenty of incredible works for each to speak for themselves. Considering these devices just function as a cheaper and portable sketch pad, I suppose you would be against those too?
