Iphone 4 vs HTC Incredible

It doesn't matter though. You seem hell bent on proving me wrong. Are you my ex-wife???

Also, I have read your other 18 posts and they get more argumentative with each subsequent posting. http://androidforums.com/search.php?searchid=2112866

I'm not jerking your chain, really. We are all just here to learn more about our phones. I don't know why I even get into these anti-anything discussions. It's just a waste of my time.

Frankly, I couldn't care less about "proving you wrong." I used your post, along with several others, to illustrate my point, nothing more. When further discussion was raised about it, I responded to that person - not to you.

It doesn't matter. You can't see the forest for the trees. I wasn't personally attacking you. Read my posts again but pretend your posts were written by someone else, maybe it'll remove the personal sting and you can see the reasonable request to limit the spreading of unfounded speculation.

Umm...I'm sorry...but no. If you've actually seen an iPhone 4's screen there's no way you can say that the Dinc's screen is superior.

And as far as being "bigger"? The Dinc's is taller, but the iPhone's is wider. They are different formats. Is one format better than the other? That's up to you. I hear the argument about movies being bigger and better on the Dinc's screen because of the format. But you know what? I don't play much video on my Dinc because it kills the battery and I need that for using it in more important ways.

There are many reasons to like/love the Dinc. And I'm not saying the screen is bad in any way. But if you compare the two and think the Dinc's screen is better...IMHO you are showing your fanboy bias.

I agree with this - especially with the section I emphasized.

It is possible.

However, materials used is only part of the equation and given how many unknowns there are in plastics, who's to say that the plastic backing of the 3GS isn't more fragile than the glass? Can you tell that the case is or is not better structured in the iPhone 4, thus supporting its backing better and reducing the chance that drops will break it? Have you analyzed the structure to see if dropping it on its corner will actually impact the glass at all, or if it'll be absorbed mostly by the metal case/antenna? Do you know the material specs on the glass?

All I'm saying is the knee-jerk "DON'T DROP IT THERE'S A 120% CHANCE YOU'LL BREAK IT" is ridiculous, and that, along with a lot of other stuff in this thread, is simply FUD/misinformation, spread by people who don't fact-check before they make sweeping, blunt statements.

completely agree with you, just showing that with some thought there could be some legitimate concerns, but i would not consider the iphone4 fragile after holding one, it actually feels really solid. But the answer to all of these issues;

1. don't drop your IP4
2. get a case/bumper for when you break rule 1

binary visions:

Although you're right about those points you said were incorrect, you sure are going about it in a forum troll sort of way.

y u mad bro?

They're about the same. Apple is a lying bastard for making people think the new screen was going to be really new tech. It is small @ 3.5", the aspect ratio is pig disgusting, and the colors aren't as vibrant as ours. I've compared the two side by side and the added sharpness is only barely noticeable.

In the interest of fairness, I'll add that AMOLED shows a slight pink hue when displaying white at low brightness.

A coworker showed me his new iphone the other day. It's a nice looking phone. I think the screen on the iphone and that on the inc are pretty comparable -- they are both great. I did think the HD video recording was pretty sweet, though. He showed me a quick movie he shot, and I forgot it was taken on a phone. It's not a feature I'd use often, but I have been impressed with the new iphone. It's still not the right phone for me, but I definitely think they've made some hardware improvements.

Don't forget, dont hold your IP4 while on the phone or it will not work. Keep it on your lap, or create/invent a helmet with a wire that will hold the phone for you at about 5 inches away from your face

I guess you can call me a Dinc. I went over to the other side yesterday. I bought two Iphone 4s one for me one for my daughter. I bought them at 10AM yesterday and returned both at 11 AM today.
I had the storm for over a year and if I was going from the Storm to the Iphone I would have thought it was the best thing in the world but after a few hours of owning the Iphone4 I was not impressed. I missed a lot of the voice apps and I didn

i played with the iphone at the apple store and it felt exactly like the old iphone. screen looked nice but when i turned my inc to full brightness it was just as nice so nothing really spectacular there. loaded up droid-life.com on the iphone then left happy with my inc

Interesting thought I had: You will find many Google apps on an Apple iPhone, but you will not find and Apple Apps on a Google phone...and this is why

That isn't quite true. Apple uses and contributes to open source in sectors where it benefits them. Webkit is a fork of KHTML (The HTML layout engine designed by the KDE team), and is currently one of the best (if not the best) of its class.

Google's operating cash flow is funded primarily through Adsense and related advertising programs. As such, Google wants to open up its services to the largest audience possible in order to increase ad exposure. Apple, on the other hand, sells hardware. They want their software to work only on their proprietary hardware--as it helps them sell product.

Further, the reason that Microsoft monopolized the OS market a number of years ago is the same reason Apple didn't: Apple innovated, Microsoft copied. Innovation allows for a very short window of potential arbitrage and the cost of technological innovation can get quite high.

Typical FUD. They both copied xerox. Apple and microsoft.

mrspeedmasters drumbeat of negativity notwithstanding...
Both are great phones. Both will be obsolete in 2 years (if that)

LOL... Both will be obsolete by next February.

Finally, if you are holding a Incredible, or an Iphone 4, or any of the top tier phones... be happy, you are holding a wonderful piece of technology..

True.

As for being negative. I just say it like it is. I love the Android OS. I like the open architecture, open file system,etc... I like how I can run a webserver/web-dav/ftp server from my Incredible and give people files from anywhere. I love Google Voice and cant live without it.

I prefer the iOS applications and polish. Apps like media player, camera, even system administration apps are better. iSSH, the VNC, and mySQL apps are better on iOS than on Android. You figure it would be the other way around because Android is Linux based.

Froyo will hopefully change. I still can't believe Google Apps like Google Earth is ridiculously faster on the iPhone than it is on Android.

I'm lucky enough to be in a position to use both devices.

Have you tried connectbot?

And what client do you use for web dav. I run andftp to throw things back and forth from my "personal" cloud server and back.

Oh, and common sense would tell you, plastic would be more durable than glass.

Have you tried connectbot?

Connectbot sort of blows. I need control keys, esc , tabs, etc.. On the iPhone, there are transparent icons that float on top of the terminal and they have keyboard controls like tab, esc. The only good thing about running Connectbot on the Incredible is the optical trackball that allows you to move around. I guess the keyboard thing can be fixed if I had a different keyboard but I can't find one for Android that gives me what I need. They need to have an option in the menu to fire up a modal that allows you to have those extra keys that you can send to the terminal..

For system administration, nothing beats an iPad/iPhone w/ iSSH.

I run web-dav on the phone itself. I run SDCardWifi, WebFileSystem and OnAir (which is more AFP). The phone runs as a fileserver and I copy files from my pc to the Android phone. They also have apps like that for iPhone. As for sharing files in a cloud, I use drop-box and ZumoDrive. I share files between the iPhone and the Android phones.

Ah gotcha.. sometimes forget people don't have all the keys I have on my physical qwerty. Right now I just use ftp and my vps (supposed to be for webhosting, but I use it as my "cloud" anyways, along with two domains I run) using connectbot to ssh into my vps is pretty easy, for me, since I have loads of extra keys on my physical board.

Have you tried wifi adhoc to toss files inbetween androids yet? Its something I eventually want to try but it always seems to slip my mind.

Well, it is the highest resolution of any phone screen to date. They aren't really lying.

Apple's iPhone 4 "Retina" Display Claims Are False Marketing

Not to argue about it, actually. I just meant that they made their product seem nicer than it really was. When I saw the display in real life, and compared it next to my Incredible, I was really let down. I guess I was just bitter because I was expecting to see something amazing and didn't.

Ah the wonders of the internet. Someone brings up the iPhone as being better and suddenly he is a "Nimrod."

Here is my .02. The iPhone 4 is a great phone. I had the glory of doing some training behind the device.

The retina display > my AMOLED Incredible screen
The camera is better in low light, the Droid in high
The iPhone is pretty fast but not ground breaking
The signal strength "death grip" I found to be largely false. Giving at most 5db of change.
AT&T service was appalling compared to Verizon in both range and reliability.
I also seemed to get better battery life with the iPhone. Mind you, I have the 1750ma Seido battery.

The iPhone is a great device, and yes this is an Android forums, but I figure it should be worth my comparisons. I love my Droid Incredible, but the Android platform is really starting to irritate me with the defragmentation and just the lack of updates for the device.

Black, stop it; just stop. Nobody here cares about the damned iPhone 4, 5, 6 or 7. We've ready the reviews, heard the problems and just don't care anymore. So please, just stop...

Perhaps you don't care but that doesn't mean everyone..this is a forum and you're free not to read the post since my thread title is pretty clear on what the subject is about. I don't care about the iphone either but it's nice to see a comparison written up in a non-biased fashion.

Threads merged.

Comparisons between the Incredible and other handsets are a valid topic for the forum, but please restrict threads to one per comparison to make finding information easier for everyone.

I played with the iphone yesterday.
Screen is definitely better on the IP4, maybe its my screen protector but this is the first time i thought the screen on my inc looked dim.
I was definitely able to recreate the left hand/no signal problem. It was hysterical.
Facetime is kind of cool, but it seems ******ed its only on wifi.

After leaving the store though, and my gf and I had to figure how to get home, I pulled up the navigation to go home and instantly felt better about my incredible.
