"Missing Droid X Real-World Give-Away" Contest (1st Post:Updated)

Do you know how much of a *********** it would be if they just gave you the coordinates??? They would have to randomly choose between 50 people all getting there at the same time, and probably fights breaking out.

It didn't say it was posting the GPS coordinates, it referred to clues of the GPS coordinates:

"Dates and times of Certificate placement will vary, but the final clue of each GPS location for each Certificate will be tweeted at the time it is hidden."

I can see it that way too. Who knows... I guess we'll have answers to all of this in the next few days. And some of us will even have a new droid x

What in the world would they need to post the GPS location AFTER the certificate is found for?!
To me, "final clue OF each GPS location" means the final clue will include the GPS location... Just like if something is made OF metal, for example, metal is what the object is composed of... (yeah i know, silly example)

"of" isn't being used that way ... it's being used as a possessive

e.g. "Hand of God" doesn't mean the hand is composed of god, it means that it is God's hand

Similarly "final clue of each GPS location" ==> "Each GPS location's final clue"

Ugh... wow...

We'll see... Let's leave it at that.

Damn it people. I said:

Hey, let's stop arguing/complaining. It is what it is! (I hate that term) So, either you are still in this, or you're not. When they post the coordinates, or GPS locations, or whatever the hell it is gonna be, the ones who are up for it, go get it!!! I would, but I can guarantee, by the time I get there, since I am at least 45 minutes away from San Francisco, I am not getting one based on just a few folks here, and several on twitter that are in SF proper. I just want someone like WOOP to get it cuz he's our fellow hunter. Capiche?!?!?

:p

It's a geocaching event now. Fun. And my stupid Blackberry Curve doesn't have GPS because RIM and Verizon chose to keep it locked.

It's funny that everyone is trying to over analyze the official rules. It clearly states that someone will hide the certificate, and then the GPS coordinates will be tweeted. So yes, it will be a mad dash, and that's why they said there will be a drawing at each location that has multiple people that find it.

I totally feel you man. Read my last post or two. Its driving me crazy that people are complaining. Its like since they might not get one they think this is dumb now. Like those spoiled kids you played with when you were little that said they were taking their toys and going home because they didn't like what you said or something. Some people just don't have the ability to be happy for others.

Well.... It's been fun guys, but I'm out on this one. I'm no less than 4 hours from any location and have exactly 0% chance at this point. Best of luck. I sure hope someone here gets one. Especially after all of this hard work we did.

So uh, lots have happened since I went to run errands. Sounds like I'm out of the running for a free Droid X, since it's apparently going to be based on GPS locations, and my GPS was stolen a month or so ago when my wife's car was broken into. Ah well. I'll get one the old fashioned way in a week: cold hard cash.

Here's my theory.

The event hasn't started yet. No Droid Xs are currently being given away. Verizon knows that their clues have been very vague. They don't expect people to actually go looking for them yet. This is because the actual give away won't occur until a particular date. If I had to guess I would say sometime this weekend. When the event starts, and Verizon is at these various locations, the clues will be very clear and simple to figure out. It will require that you print something out to prove you are part of the scavenger hunt, and not just some random pedestrian that happened to be in the vicinity. The give away will last 8-10 hours and each station will have 2 or 3 Verizon employees.

I was damn close :D

Thanks! I might have to start carrying my Garmin unit with me for the next few days, tho...just in case. I know I'm kidding myself, but maybe I can take the family to the city this weekend for some playtime with their SF cousins...;) ;)

lol.......so that makes Verizon the big bully that changed the rules in the middle of a game?? or finally made some rules?? ....luckily i didnt drive as far as some did man...but i mean some of these guys that drove hours have a right to be somewhat upset....hence it was 4th of july weekend....and in no way am i complaining....just saying :)

Some people really make me question the human race. I can't believe that people are upset about how this thing has been run. Its a marketing campaign people The sole objective of this whole thing is to raise the profile of the Droid X and increase awareness. How many times have they repeated the specs. I bet everyone here has them memorized by now. I'd say its been very successful. Are there any other people in here that have taken a marketing class? Its marketing 101.

And can't you people that are complaining and talking about protesting and other garbage just appreciate the fact that they are giving out 21 free phones? Or are you too self centered that because you might not get one you don't like the contest?

Some people on this board will end up with free droid x's so lets just help where we can and be happy for them when they get them.

This is all true, and I will be very happy if someone on here gets one...
But the thing that really irks me (and others) is that they have been saying that certain ones are "in place" and they're "not moving", etc... They've tweeted a lot of stuff that lead people to believe that there's something out there to be found when in fact there hasn't been.
What they should have done is just kept it at them being on the move, en route to where ever the final destination will be... IMO it was just wrong to elude to there being something out there for people to go out and look for. That's all...
