"Missing Droid X Real-World Give-Away" Contest (1st Post:Updated)

I hope they don't do any west coast events in the morning. Since the tweets are clearly on an east coast time zone (some before 6am Pacific time) not very many people will see it........ on second thought, maybe they should. There would be way less people. In any case, west coasters better be up early for clues.

@francypants Did you get the phone already?? Can you post pictures that would be awesome.

@topic I've been trolling for the last 3 days.

I've been on this site recently trying to decide between the X and the Incredible. As my name implies it will be my first android, and first smart phone in general.

I'm from Boston, Boston proper. And if they acually put the phone in Plymouth, after putting the NYC phone on Manhattan I'm gonna be irked. Plymouth doesn't deserve a phone, Boston does.

I'm glad this most recent clue is looking like it was more of the general ones. Lets go Boston proper give away. Somewhere close to where I work please.

So.... who's obsessed with this? lol

I love a good mystery, but if it requires me to have to spend gas money on something I may or may not get... can't. Lucky for those people who live right in that city though!
Me too, sorry i'm gonna miss the ending--will be camping for a week, sure it will be over b4 I get home...

Ok, so for those of you in the city, I have a good idea for you. I think I should have followed my hunch the other day, verizon is sponsoring the FIFA broadcast @ civic plaza and maybe it has something to do with that?? I wanted 2 go the other day when my gps stopped working and just headed home. remember me if it helps...

Hey everyone, this is Francis, the guy that found the 1st Droid. People have been wondering how I found the phone so fast. I actually didn't find it 6 minutes after the GPS coordinates were posted. Verizon posted a tweet several minutes prior with actual hints (this tweet was then deleted and replaced with the GPS coordinate, sometime during my bike ride over to the location). I work a few blocks away, and after figuring out the general destination by doing some googling work using "Long Time" and piers/docks, it led me to pier 66 where there was an industrial sculpture called "Long Time". I casually biked over there, took some time walking around the wrong pier, and then made my way to the actual sculpture. I looked in the map bin because that was another clue given in the tweet about "needing a map". The certificate was in there. I then proceeded to read the certificate, which told me to find a person nearby with a Verizon logo. There were several "tourists" on the pier, which turned out to be undercover Verizon employees who congratulated and filmed me after I handed the certificate over. I was totally surprised cause I expected to just find a certificate which I'd have to redeem at a local Verizon store. But it was a much bigger production, which shouldn't have been a surprise if i had read the terms and conditions, as they mention videotaping and whatnot for marketing purposes. Anyways, that's pretty much it...

great logic!!! congrats, this should help others 2 figure out clues.... lucky for the post that was deleted, I noticed that on another site I was following and wondered what was up with that....

I just wanted to show this...Google Maps

go there and pan out and look at ALL the VZW's in the 48 states. I think they're putting them where the biggest clusters of vzw's are, well ATL has a big cluster!

So did they give you a phone on the spot or no? Someone else that was there said you got a voucher to claim a phone at any store...?
I'm also curious... Have you been following this since the beginning? Or did you just happen to stumble upon all of this recently?
Were you following DroidLanding on Twitter, even? (some are saying you weren't)
Congrats man!

I've been following the news on the Droid X in general, as I've been planning on switching over from the iphone/ATT to Droid/Verizon. However, I only found out about the droid landing twitter account this morning. I don't really tweet or follow tweets, but the contest info popped up during a google search. But yes, they do give you the physical phone on site. I have it here right now, but won't be able to activate it for another week or so when my contract expires...

You found out about it this morning!!? You are one lucky mofo..I'm so jealous

I AM IN MASSACHUSETTS! I saw the Pilgrim tweet 30 minutes after it was posted when I was in a Verizon store asking for a demo Droid X. They didnt have one so i played with the incredible and checked DroidLanding. Saw that tweet and freaked out. Already knew that it is Plymouth Rock and immediately googled directions. I got there at 7:50 and looked around. Took me 50 minutes to fight through the traffic to get there.

NOTHING. No cameras. Plenty of tourists and a few sketchy looking people probably looking for the Droid X too. A guy wearing a green Dunder Mifflin shirt, a guy with a gray Army shirt... hmmm.

I'm guessing it was a "general" clue to let Massholes know theres one there.... now I'm signing up for twitter. I'll be hunting for the droidx to represent you guys!!!!!

Wish me luck!

No offense, but it figures that someone that didn't even know about the event until today would find it LOL. Look how many pages this frickin thread is, pages 1-55 were all for nothing! Although it was kinda fun trying to figure out all the tweets that ended up being pointless at the time lol...

PS I dont have a smartphone! so no gps help for me... perhaps someone can help me in the search real time when the Massachusetts Droid is called? like maybe call me and walk me through it all?
