HTC DROID Eris OS 2.1v3 download

I'm trying to upgrade from leak 2 to leak 3, and its not letting me upgrade. I keep getting fastboot mode/recovery options in the boot menu. I downloaded the zip file and its the only file on the mem card. Any help?

Also, I've followed the directions in doing a factory reset as well, and now I can't upgrade.

EDIT: Figured it out. I was using a 1gb card to just try to update, but it didn't work. Guess you have to use 8gb or above for the phone to recognize the update. Don't know why, but that was my problem.

I think the issue is that you have to use a card that was formatted by the phone, not by a computer? (I've heard others say that they had to be using the original memory card that came with the phone.)

Yeah, that must've been it. Odd, though. What could the difference be?

Help! A few weeks ago I did an update to 2.1, I believe it was Version 2. I'm trying to update to version 3 and I followed all the instructions but it won't give me the option to upgrade, it just keeps asking me if I want to clearstorage. Help! Thanks!!!

Nevermind, I'm trying to do hard resets rather than just the volume down and power button. Trying that now.

It didn't work, so I went through all the steps again for the 3rd time, and for whatever reason it worked. Who knows, liking v3 so far! :)

VERRRY New to this but would like to know how to get a download of Eris 2.1 v3 without going through MobileMe

If you are VERRRY new to the phone, I would hold off on this particular thing for two reasons:

1) If you already have the OTA-2.1, it is the same thing (as the previous poster said).
2) It makes your phone unrootable.

Tell us what bootloader version you have (1.46.0000, 1.47.0000, 1.49.0000, or 1.49.2000) and we will give you some better advice. Also, tell us what

Settings -> About phone -> Software information -> Software number

is reported.

It doesn't make it un-rootable, but rooting HBOOT 1.49 is incredibly difficult and tedious.

Sorry, I guess I gave the impression I got 2.1 OTA but I downloaded and installed 2.1 v2 a while back a really like it. I was trying to follow Caddyman's link for v3 and got hung up on having to sign up Mobileme because I don't want to give a credit card number. The other downloads I tried only gave me 107,370,000 not the 109,946,224 mentioned. I have no idea where to find out what bootloader I have.
This is only my second post that was the verrry new I was referring to.

Eris63,

Since you have installed a 2.1 (v2) leak, it really doesn't matter what your HBOOT version is (in so far as gaining root), but if you want to check, here's how: http://androidforums.com/all-things-root-eris/106901-can-i-root-my-eris-look-here-first.html

By the way, you can download the v3 version of the leak at bberryhill0's site (http://bruceberryhill.com/PB00IMG.zip) in the above post--I downloaded and checked the MD5 sums and the size and it matches what is documented here:

third (v3) 2.1 leak (released 4/29/2010)
description: third (final) Eris 2.1 leak released; identical to 2.1 OTA
root capable: no (bootloader security setting prevents this)
HBOOT version: 1.49.0000 S-ON
size: 109,946,224
MD5 sum: 1c0b0182356242a9d673a661e7458587 (matches XDA site)

(excepted form http://androidforums.com/all-things...oot-troubleshooting-guide-htc-droid-eris.html).

Cheers!

Thanks, looks like I go no further as I have 1.49.0000

Well, you do know that the v3 leak has a lot of fixes that the v2 leak does not? (i.e., see the first post in this thread for the full list). Plus, it will essentially give you what the 2.1 OTA folks have.

The HBOOT didn't change between the 2.1 leaks (its not the significant piece in this puzzle).

Although, if you are happy with what you've got...:)

I did the download and reboot to v3, thanks for the support. Everything is fine with one exception, I can no longer find one of my former APPs (eWallet Viewer) but have found items I couldn't find in v2. Thanks to everyone for their help and patience with an old fool like me.

I just received an email from Verizon heralding the arrival of Android 2.1 and saying I will shortly be receiving a mandatory update. Did anyone else get this and what does it mean? Verizon originally said that leaked phones would get the update. Did they finally find a way to overwrite the 2.1v3 we already have?

THE OFFICIAL 2.1 OTA IS OUT NOW AND IT IS THE SAME AS THIS LEAK. SOME VZW TECHS CLAIM THAT LEAKING WITH THE BELOW SOFTWARE WILL VOID YOUR WARRANTY. NOW THAT THE OTA IS UPON US THERE REALLY IS NO REASON AT ALL TO LOAD THIS LEAK.

This is the newest iteration of the 2.1 OS for Eris that Verizon is testing, slight improvements and enhancements...

on my PC desktop now the package shows that it is 104MB (109,946,224 bytes) in size

instructions for install is exact same as the other 2.1 leak, posted in this section on the stickies.

this is legit

it is different

i am running it now

it is legit

issues apparently corrected

Just got the email from Verizon to expect the update.
I'm already running 2.1
Any reason for me to upgrade?

I forced 2.1 onto my Eris through the XDA posts a few months ago after I couldn't wait any longer. Would like to have the new version but have no idea what version of 2.1 I'm currently on. Firmware shows just 2.1. Checked my hboot as detailed above and I have 1.46.

Do I have to install v2 before v3? Since it sounds like I won't get an OTA since I previously updated manually can I just proceed with loading version v3 regardless?

I am running an unrooted Eris 2.1, and just installed the recent Verizon update. The only changes I have seen so far have been the ROM version and Radio numbers have been incremented to 2.37.605.4/ 2.42.02.04.27 respectively.

Do you really mean 1.46?

Something is odd about that if that is really what you have.

A couple of months ago, every one of the methods for getting 2.1 onto your phone involved replacing the hboot (bootloader). 3 out of 4 methods were "leak" methods, where you would have ended up with a 1.49.0000 S-ON hboot, and the 4th method, which was the rooting method, you would have ended up with 1.49.2000 S-OFF hboot.

If you install this particular leak - leak V3, you will be able to get the (July 2010) 2.1+ OTA update which is currently being pushed by VZW.

You didn't say whether you wanted root or not, but it sort of doesn't matter any longer - there is an easy root method which will allow you to root a leak-V3 phone now, and apparently even phones which get the new (7/2010) OTA update.

Note that this (leak V3) install performs a wipe of the phone - so back up whatever you deem appropriate before you do it. (Your SD card will be untouched).

interesting. I was under the impression those of us running 2.1v3 would not get the OTA since verizon would see we are already on 2.1.

Was it a force OTA, or one you could ignore.

I am going to be installing the v4 hack, basically to make 2.1v3 root.
