Ok. Here's a question for you guys. If the epic was a Motorola phone, would you guys get it? I'm just asking because a lot of you guys hate Samsung. If the Epic was made by motorola, would you take it over the Evo?

Interesting...I'm just to opposite, but did briefly consider purchasing the X.
To quote Steve Jobs "It's just a phone". People make a big deal out of glass, plastic, and metal.

So to add to your question I'd like to add "Ask yourself this in two years will you care"?

I should have gone into marketing. I'd say 98% of people who buy smart phones don't even need them. They just want what all the other cool kids have. Spam cool commercials enough times and you can sell anything to anyone.

My sisters $hity Boot Mobile phone has apps.

Actually, they did call her trollz etc in other threads. Most of the posts got deleted. And two or three people said the same about me because of expressing my concern with the evo's flaws before wanting to buy it.

Well let me apologize for all the idiots that have nothing better to do
.
EVO FanBoy here and I'll be the first to say the EVO has issues and HTC is lucky the phone was out before the Super Phone flood gates opened or it might not have been so successful.

I was talking more about Samsung's track record and Motorola's swift updates but you make a good point. After reading your post, I asked myself "If no one cared about what a phone looked like or what phone you had, would I choose the Epic or the Evo?" The answer was easy: the epic. The Evo has a certain sexiness and coolness factor that the epic just doesn't have (in my opinion). It's weird that I answered epic because before I asked myself that question, I would have said Evo. If a ferrari looked like a honda accord but still drove like a ferrari, I guarantee you most people wouldn't want it anymore. This modern age of technology and advertisements has brainwashed people

People hate Samsung for a reason.

But to answer your question no, I would not buy a Motorola. Although they don't have the same issues Samsung phones have had, Droid owners STILL haven't been able to unlock the bootloader so they can flash custom roms. Motorola seems to be doing it with all of their smartphones too.

You know there is a valid reason to lock the phone down. Idiots brick their phones and blame it on some other reason and it cuts down on the replacements.

If people really wanted a 100% open phone then the Nexus Two would be on the way. IMOP people just like to bitch about nothing. In a year when Moto stop supporting the X maybe they'll open it up.

Yeah there are plenty of people who like to exploit the system take advantage of a good thing that ruins things for others. I totally recognize that. But I also see that Motorola is the only one locking things down. Until it's a level playing field (Everyone is locking phones down, or Motorola reverses course), I'm not considering them.

It's a valid gripe if you bought into one of the tenet ideas behind Android, make it open source so users/developers/manufacturers can modify it and use it as they wish. With the Droid X, Motorola has effectively stopped that by locking down their hardware. You can only use Android and their Hardware in a way they prescribe. And I also have an issue with principle that when I buy something I can't modify it and use it to my hearts content.

The Nexus point is an interesting one. I believe that some of it's main issues are that it was plagued by a non-standard distribution system, and a poor support system. It might have caught on otherwise.

That's all advertising FUD. Bitching about not being able to do whatever you want with a device you PURCHASED isn't exactly bitching about nothing.:rolleyes:

Jeez guys, talk about a tempest in a teacup.

The Samsung flip phones were rock solid. Samsung can and usually does make really great stuff. They're one of the leaders in the world market for a reason.

In many ways, the Moment dropped the ball. No question.

But when it comes out, I'll encourage my wife to upgrade from her Moment (on her second one, and I wonder if a third isn't in the works....) to the SGSPro. She doesn't like my Evo and she wants a slide-out keyboard.

Our brand faith hasn't been shaken by one bad one in the bunch of Sammy tech we've owned.

Personally, I'm glad Sprint's embracing the SGS tech. It gives people with preferences like my wife an option and it will protect the EVO image - people won't be required to take it or leave it as their only 4G choice and then not like it because it doesn't suit their preferences or needs.

Different brand, different form factor, different UI out of the box.

Srsly - where's the real debate?

The great thing about hypotheticals is that they can't be proven wrong - any more than they can be proven right.

Judging from all past tech - the first one out is usually the one that gains the most complaints about problems.

Had the SGSPro come out first, I've no doubt it would have had the most complaints - hypothetically speaking, of course.

Already have the Evo, but the Epic would definitely be a close second.
I came from a Pre, so I kind of miss having a physical keyboard, but the Evo's screen is so big that it's not really a problem. Not to mention, the keyboard actually doesn't look that great and makes it a bit too bulky. I just wish the Evo had a better screen.

HTC is really blowing it by not having enough Evos available. A lot of people are getting fed up with availability (me included). I'm starting to lean towards the Epic as time goes on. If only the Evo's screen was samoled and it had the epic's processor. I'm so torn between these phones!

Based on this, tell me what phone I should get:
1. I play games once in a while on phones but not constantly
2. I watch youtube on phones a lot and love having a kickstand
3. I like the epic's screen quality more than the evo
4. I like the Evo's screen size more than the epic
5. I don't necessarily need a physical keyboard but its always a plus
6. I like the design of the evo better
7. I rarely use the camera or video functionality on phones
8. I root phones
9. Pocketability is not an issue
10. I'm not getting either phone until the epic is available and the evo is in stock
11. I use my phone a lot for web browsing
12. I download lots of apps
13. like watching movies and tv shows on phones
14. I'm not going to connect my phone to the t.v.
15. Updates aren't an issue since I load custom roms on
So hard to choose. Which one?!

I love the EVO so much and I think it's the greatest thing since bread and water but it sounds to me the Epic might be your thing. Best thing to do, try both phones in the 30 day period if possible. Whichever you finds suits your needs/wants, go that direction. I'll tell you the EVO is amazing and I will be happy to play with an Epic in store when I get the chance.

This is a tough one. The Epic will be a better performer as it will have the Hummingbird processor coupled with not having a 30fps cap.

On the flip side Samsung is notorious for not updating their devices. So to me its a toss up.
