Battery Drops like Ashley Simpson's Career?

Here's an example of how mine seems to be draining too fast. I have only a few network-updating widgets that are set at the minimum to update only 30 min or more. Also, wifi, bluetooth, and gps are off, and screen is on auto-brightness.

Took the phone off the charger at 11 this morning after being at 100% for a while overnight, and did maybe one text msg, read a few emails and checked Twitter updates via the app, and general browsing of the phone menus and apps (nothing major at all that would drain a battery), and within 15 minutes, the battery was down to 90% according to the Status screen.

Is this normal to most of you? By the sound of it, many of you seem to have wayyyy better life, and I'm getting nervous lol.

Also, in my room, it is staying mostly on 1x but not all the time. And I have the beautiful widgets - beautiful home clock/weather widget but that's set to pull only every hour or two.

EDIT:

And now about 30 minutes later, after a few more small things like more texting (maybe about 4 texts), and more general phone browsing over that period of time like trying to load an HQ Youtube video that never loaded, it is now at 80%. Come on really? This reminds me of my BB Storm and its horrid battery life. Is this what I should continue to expect within an hour of light use?

That's what happens to me too. I took it in and got a new battery. Hopefully this works. Otherwise it really is just complete crap because this phone is amazing outside of the battery

Exactly- Amazing outside of the battery.

PLEASE let me know if the battery replacement changes anything.

If I bought my X at Best Buy and did not buy insurance, can I still get a replacement battery for free from them? Or should I try from Verizon? Not sure what I would do.

Well atleast the OTA coming out will give us an indicator when it's actually charging. I really hope they fix the Percentages as well. My phone will be in the Red portion of the battery, I'll plug it in, and it says Charging 60%. 10 Minutes later 70% and so on. I'd feel better with it reading accuracy to the 1% instead of every 10%.

Take it back and ask for a different battery.

Mine I took off the charger at 6:30 A.M. with full charge, ran navigation to work (45 minute drive), did some Facebook during the day, browsed the news sites and played with layar over lunch, streamed Pandora for about 3-4 hours in the afternoon, ran navigation on the way home, and still had about 35% battery left when I put it back on the charger at 7:30. Using the VU meter live wallpaper too.

Thing about the live wallpapers - ones like the droid eye which are basically an animation played over and over will suck battery. Things like the vu meters don't use nearly as much.

My old phone would have been dead by noon.

The screen on this sucker is the main drain of battery from what my battery manager is telling me. I've since set the screen to go dark in 15 seconds, and not turn off when on the charger.

What's your battery manager telling you?

Take it to verizon.

Well maybe I'll give it another day and that's it before I exchange it because I don't foresee this getting any better.

I seem to always have this problem with batteries except for my BB Tour.

Why can't things ever just WORK?

Can someone explain too me why I shouldnt run atk?

Because Android is generally better at knowing which tasks to kill and when to kill them. When the Droid first came out, everybody rushed to install ATK only to find out it itself was the root cause of a lot of other strange problems they were having with their phone. The bottom line is: you don't need it.

i only seem to be averaging about 4 hours of battery life with almost constant web browsing, facebook, texts, calls, etc. is this normal or should I try to get a replacement battery? seems like 15 minutes after i unplug the thing I'm already down to 90%. and i have the battery management set to battery save mode.

I unplugged my phone today around 830am...around 1130ish it was down to 70% and I didn't even use it much. So I turned it off and then turned it back on...90% battery life...

There has got to be a bug with how the X reads remaining battery life or something.

When I got my phone Thursday mornng the thought that I should charge the battery before using it just never crossed my mind. :o LOL
So I started using it around 9:30 am. Used it all day for this that and the other. Got home and continuing using it until probably 2:00am.

Went to bed and left it in standby mode. Got up at 6:00am Friday and phone wouldn't come out of standby mode. Cut it off and battery message 0 battery. So charged it and at 7:30 it was fully charged. Okay good to go to work. Took charger with me just in case. Well around 2:00pm down to 5% battery left.

Left work went to the VZW store and she charged it for a little and said battery seemed okay said she couldn't really tell since battery was still low.
I didn't have time for them to charge it it completely. She asked me to charge it to 100% and come back on Monday.

I realize I should have charged completely before using. Rep at store on Thursday told me to leave phone in standby mode and not cut it off. Friday same rep says to cut it off overnite when not using. They installed task killer Thursday so I have been using that and putting on standby when not using phone. Today rep says to cut phone off while recharging.

Update so far Friday charged battery fully played around with this that and the other again. Listened to my favorite fm radio statio. Listened to slacker alot. Cut phone off around 1:00am. Turned phone on at 2:30pm Saturday and battery warning message need to charge.

Phone is charging now but I think battery lasted longer on Friday and will see how it goes. Will charge to 100% and go back by store Monday. If battery doesn't improve significantly will probably insist on new battery.

Thats my battery story and hope things continue to improve with the battery life.

Thought I'd add my experience here.

After activating the phone last night then fully charging it, this morning I used the phone for about 1 hour 45 minutes on meebo (constantly on, instant messaging), I downloaded one app, and used google maps once, texted a couple times and it was down to 60%

I have screen brightness set to 15%, haptic feedback off, and battery profile set to battery saving (power saving).

I moved to the droid x from the droid eris which I had the seido extended battery for (1750mAh) and the eris had horrible battery life. I couldn't even use it a whole day. I was just texting no more than a half hour total and maybe using a couple apps and the phone would be down to 30-10% at the end of the day)

On a positive note, the droid x seems to hold a charge better than my eris while the screen is off (yes, my eris was asleep, I had decent awake times)

I don't know If i should try to swap the droid x battery. I have another droid x on the way from verizon which I might cancel (my droid x had a dead pixel which was confirmed at a store so 611 tech support is sending out a replacement, but the dead pixel disappeared on its own last night which is awesome)

The signal on the block i live on is pretty abysmal. Eris got 0-1 bar, droid gets anywhere from 1-3 usually and is generally faster, but I wonder if the low signal strength is contributing to the loss of battery life on both these phones. I don't think its something to rule out.

Um ok so i went to my closest verizon and tried to exchange my battery and the guy told me that the update on the 19th is supposed to fix any battery issues. So i said ok and left. Then i looked up the update details and it just says that it will "improve the battery indicator".
So the guy was tellin me bs then right?

I'm so mad because i know the batter is dying way too fast and i need another one but i can't even get one. What should i do?

Was having the same issues as some of you these past few days. Was on the verge of returning it to Best Buy before in fact.

On Friday: Battery said it was at 40%. I turned it off and back on and it said 70% for the next hour.

Today: Battery said 90% when I took it off the charger this morning at 5 AM. Left for a 5 hour drive to North Carolina, listening to Pandora for about 90 minutes. When I get to NC its at 20%. Thinking it was really higher than that I restart it like the day before. When I turned it back on it was at 5% then shut off 20 seconds later...

I'm gonna give it till Monday to fix itself, if not its gone and I'm back to the Droid.

This happens with EVERY new phone, just give it a few days maybe a week and it will get better. If it doesn't you probably have a faulty battery. Another thing to remember is you just got the phone so of course your playing with it non stop. Try and get the battery calibrated that will make a big difference for those of you having really big drops.

I was really expecting better battery performance after reading the reviews, but my battery life has been pretty bad.

Of course, I have been on it non-stop doing all sorts of intensive things that once settled I will probably not be doing.

Day 1: charged to 100% from 80% out of the box @ 4:00PM. Lasted until about 11PM (15% warning indicator).

Day 2: left charged and plugged in overnight; unplugged @ 100% at 11AM, it's now at 50% at 4:00PM. It dropped 10% in the first hour of use, and another 10% in the second hour.

Battery settings @ Power save, screen brightness at the MINIMUM (~6 or ~3%)

Won't last a day going at this rate.

Think I have a faulty battery?

I think your fine. If your using it a lot then it's normal to drop down that fast. I'd give it a few days to a week and see how it does then.

Constant facebook app usage (it pulling status updates/feeds) will hurt. I have been using mine heavily (no facebook though) today, GPS Nav, Pandora, youtube, web browing and applications, Yelp, couple games (uninstalled most, haven't found a good game yet) for almost 9 hours, i'm at 30%. Personally, I compare this to my laptop, which will last about 3-4 hours tops, so I'm not surprised if it doesn't last long. If you are doing heavy computing on a phone, then its like a laptop, and you can expect shorter battery cycles. I used it fairly heavy today, lots of text, calls, apps etc and its looking to last about 10-11 hours. Also, burn up the battery entirly tonight, shut down the phone, and let it charge over night to help with battery calibration.

People keep saying that the main cause is that most of us are playing with the phone non-stop. But that isn't true in my case and I'm guessing most cases at all. I am so afraid of seeing that battery drop again each time that I barely am picking it up in hopes of something getting better. And it still doesn't. A few minutes here and there of the lightest usage kills my battery 10 more percent every time I pick it up, so clearly something is wrong and it's not usage.

This thing should be able to take heavy usage without dropping anything for a while..just like those early reviews (guess they don't apply to everyone's phone now huh?).

I'm very disappointed with this so far and I couldn't even get a battery exchange today when I tried because of a lie where they said the software update will fix the issue, when really NO.

< Don't even know what to do now...
