Through Micro USB with a Micro USB to HDMI cable.
So it does DLNA, HDMI, and composite through the 3.5mm jack. Compared to just the Evo's HDMI I wouldn't say it's dead in the water.

Uh... I'm sorry but Micro USB to HDMI is not a proprietary cable. Proprietary cables have special connectors that are only meant for that particular product. Micro USB is not proprietary, HDMI isn't either, maybe you need to brush up on current technology.
Technically if I wanted to call out a phone for having an uncommon but not proprietary as you phrased it we could easily say the same for the Evo who the hell will have a use for a Micro HDMI cable after they figure out what a big turd it is?
The ball rolls both ways but, non of the connectors mentioned above are PROPRIETARY.

I would think microHDMI to HDMI would become more of a standard than microUSB to HDMI. After all, how are you supposed to charge the device while streaming?
And pardon my misuse of the word. Since you want to correct everything you can think of a way to charge and stream too? I'll take microHDMI and microUSB.

Who cares I'm not using the thing as a movie box it's a cellphone, the charge will last more than 2 hours so chances are you can watch a full movie and put it back in the charger and still have 50% battery I know, impossible the Evo can't do it. That's the beauty of 45nm processors and Super Amoled displays, no Crapdragon inside!
PS: You're complaining about the cable cost? Here you go currently out of stock since last Wed. but I'm currently awaiting my cable to arrive spend a whopping $3.60 on a name brand (Samsung branded) cable.

The Samsung cable has a port for the MicroUSB charger.
I couldnt find this listed anywhere, but if it does have a port to let the device charge at the same time its connected to tv through HDMI, its a WHOOOHOOO

Though I don't get the location of the charging port. How long is the cable? Is it short, and I need an HDMI extension cable? Is it at least a few feet, but then why put the charging port on the hdmi end. Then you have to have it plugged in near the display source. Think i'd rather have a 2 cable dongle, one short ending in a female microUSB and one long ending in hdmi. That or both short and both ending in female connections.

I'm just trying to get details of how it's going to work. If it's a long cord and the power is at the hdmi end you need to get an extension cable so the power is easily accessible. Actually, if it's short you still need an extension cable. If you're going to have a dongle, it should at least be convenient. And it's also more things you have to remember to carry.
I know I can be a PITA, but the specs are just vague on Samsung's site as well as the cheapo one.

I dont think this cable would be long enough to stretch across a room. It should be about as long as USB phone charge cables usually are. I think a dongle would just make the things more messy. You would always have to be close to a power source if dongle is to be used, which may or not be possible always. If the power connector is at the HDMI/TV end, power source would always be handy and it keeps the things clean, so I guess if the cable is short and you need it to be long, a micro-usb extension cable is far better a choice.

It's a $3.60 cable, you can always hook it up to a female to male HDMI cable for length but jeez what else could you possibly ask for in that price range, it's a steal. HDMI extender cable can be had for a few dollars as well online.

geez. I'm just asking... take a chill pill. There's no specs, lengths or a full picture. Would just be nice to know before buying exactly what you're getting. Anything wrong with that? If it's a short cord it's pretty much a dongle but with the power on the hdmi piece and you know you're buying an extension. If it's long, 3-5ft, you're buying a longer microUSB cable. I have some battery chargers, and it'd actually be nice to keep them close to the phone while charging.

won't matter to many. i'm sure if you took a poll of the masses, many wouldn't know what DLNA is let alone know if any of their components are compliant. It's a nice and cool feature, but I think most would be going the wired route.

Seems to me that the charging port near the HDMI makes plenty of sense. Frees up the phone for handling without 2 cords hanging off it and I'm sure there aren't too many TV's that are far away from a electrical outlet.

would think you're not going to be handling the phone. It's going to be sitting as you watch the tv.
and having done quite a few AV installs over the years, outlets aren't always handy. wall mounted tv's sometimes have an outlet behind the tv, but it's not easily accessible. Ones sitting on a console often have outlets behind the console and are usually connected to a surge protector of some sort which also resides behind the console. Things are usually plugged in upon setup and forgotten.
I was at a hotel a few weeks ago with a flat screen in the room. Hooked up my Evo to it and was streaming some you tube vids. No outlets anywhere near the tv that were accessible since the outlet was behind the console. After being out all day with a 3/4 dead battery, it was nice to have my Tekkeon charger handy so it got up to half a charge by the time we were done and back out the door.

This is confusing I just called Sprint to switch my main number back to the Moment so I can once again return my Evo before the 30days not taking any chances and somehow got transferred to retentions. Once I had them on the line they tried to talk me into keeping the line so I try to talk him into giving me some info about the Epic as usual he doesn't know but he did know sometime next week they'll be taking pre-orders and did offer me a rebate free price with free activation, I told him to note it on the account and I'll take him up on the offer next week.

It is completely possible he just had a bad video poorly formatted or streamed over a slow connection. Any phone can produce a bad video, but phones with larger screens will make a bad video look worse.
Coming from a Palm Pre I found the screen on the Evo to be rather ugly. Colors looked washed out due to 16bit 65K colors and it was grainy. The Palm Pre has a 24bit 16.7 million color screen. I guess if you never experienced a high quality screen you might think the screen on the Evo looks nice.

I wasnt referring to the colors of the screen "looking nice". I was referring to the video playback, and how it was NOT choppy or rough like the original poster said.
With that said, my GF has the new Samsung Vibrant (with AMOLED), and yes I can compare her screen to mine, and it is nice, but those AMOLED screens do not reproduce TRUE whites. They usually look gray or washed-out blue.

The whites on my EVO are extremely bright white, FWIW.
