Root [Theme] NexTheme for Droid X Froyo 2.2 (8/26/2010)

Installed and looks amazing, running it with LauncherPro and it is simply beautiful with a black top bar.

Does anybody know the color code for the blue of the wifi icon, the grey of the signal bar icons and the green of the battery icon? Thanks.

I am getting permission denied when im trying to enter
su
mount -o rw,remount -t ext3 /dev/block/mmcblk1p21 /system
cp /sdcard/nextheme/framework-res.apk /system/framework/
reboot
What am I doing wrong?

Edit: Nevermind, I see what Im doing, but yet it still says No such file or dire.
I made the file and put the other 2 things in it. so idk?
Edit2: Nevermind, I got it.

Well, just rooted using EasyRoot (first time rooting a phone) and decided a new theme would be my first Root project.

Everything appears to have gone smooth. I have the black notification bar and everything looks great. However, my browser is not black. I am also not seeing all of the fancy color icons under settings, etc...

Did I do something wrong?

Other than the items mentioned above, it worked well.

EDIT: I am an idiot. I didn't read anything past the second terminal entries. I am going to give it another shot...

New version with some fixes and goodies. Read the changelog in the first post for more details.

Also, if you already have NexTheme installed, all you have to do is push framework-res.apk, not services.jar.

And install the widgets and wallpapers if you'd like :D

Spent about 30 minutes trying to figure it out..didnt know I had to do it through "Charge Only." doh!
Anyways looks nice, I like it..

Question? Do i have to push the apk widgets? I try to install them and they don't install. I am a newb at this and still learning lol. Any help would be great. Awesome theme. No problems so far except on installing the torch apk. :)

Can pushing just the framework-res.apk be done with root explorer?

This was stated in second post: do not use root explorer to do this. It will result in a bootloop that can only be fixed with the sbf file

So I assume that no it wouldn't work.

I've seen that but since I only need to push the one file I'm wondering if it's ok to do it.

Yeah, I wouldn't use root explorer.

Also, the .apks are installable, but if you already have an instance of the app installed, you'll need to uninstall that one first (i.e. a non-themed moto torch)

Great write up. Would have been really great had I actually read it

Being the impatient type, I decided to follow the provided instructions a bit willy nilly. For whatever reason, I just assumed I was done after the second terminal commands. I did not read the part where it says 'This second reboot takes 3 to 5 minutes...' or anything after for that matter.

Anyways, after a few minutes in to the reboot I start to get a little concerned about how long it is taking, thinking that it was frozen or something. So, I decided to do a battery pull to see if that would allow the phone to properly reboot. Again, (just in case there are any others who don't read posts) I did not read the part that says it takes a while.

Once I realized what I had done, I ended up going back and finishing the steps. Now all appears to be well. I have all of the provided themes applied and it looks sweet.

However, now it seems as though I am unable to properly manage the SD card when plugging the phone in. When I plug the phone in, it immediately reboots. It's a very quick reboot though. I am never allowed to manage the card. One time after reboot I actually got the icon to manage the SD card, but it would not allow me to choose any option, other than to mount it to my computer. Could not choose PC mode or charge only mode.

If I have to reset and start over, I am fine with that. Just curious if there is another way.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

I was having this same problem and someone else in the main X forum is having it also.

I did a complete reset of my phone afterward, just for the heck of it, and when I reinstalled the theme it was working fine. I did have it happen once today though.

Try going into your sound settings and disabling sd notifications.

Definitely on to something here and actually points out something that has bothered me since getting this phone...

I have always had this deactivated. I dont care to hear my phone ring when I plug my USB cable in, but even deactivated, it has always alerted me. However, when disconnecting, it does not make a sound (nor was it rebooting).

To verify I went ahead and activated the notification sound for SD card and upon doing so, it reboots when connecting and again when disconnecting. Disabled it again, and now it is only rebooting when being connected. And it still makes the dang noise, even though it is disabled.

Took it even further and placed the phone in silent mode and now the issue is gone completely (or at least during this testing).

So, not exactly a 'fix'. I mean, it should be able to stay powered up, even if I chose to be reminded that I just connected my phone to my computer. But I would be OK with just leaving that off and going about my business. Problem is, I can't leave it silent forever.

Any thoughts on how to shut that off once and for all?

Are you using a notification tone that is stored on your card? This happens because it is trying to access that tone while the card is not mounted by the phone, causing the crash.

Also, regardless of the sd notifcation setting, it will alert you for usb debugging.

So, you can choose a default notification tone or turn off usb debugging, and you should be alright.

Thats it. Thank you very much.

If I could thank you 1000 times I would! I havnt done the metamorph part yet because what I REALLY wanted was just the black bar up top. I will probiably wait to do the metamorph until you have a way to reverse it back to stock just so I can be safe for froyo. But THANK YOU for giving me a much sexier looking phone!!

all those pics where do you store them on your sdcard at? where your reg pics are? thanks much....o and does anyone run weatherbug? if so the temp on the menu bar is still black and didn't change to white so you can't read the temp lol just letting everyone know
