No...that would defeat the purpose.
Really close to the bottom. That would make it really unstable and make it want to flip upside down. Not a good idea.

I had to send back my tetrax from thinkgeek ... it was the "standard" aka the GEO model ( just clip ) ,,,the xway was sold out ... found website Tetrax XWAY GPS & Smart Phone Holder $34.77 | 800-525-3888 that offers it ...so $40 w/ shipping ...
Because i have a 2010 honda civic.. the vents are concave and from what im reading over at the incredible forums the XWAY still poses problems since the vents are really close to buttons and also its slanted so GLARE causes problems with the center vents i decided to buy the M2- Soundgate from http://www.wiredforless.com/product_p/soundm2.htm.. using the code "woot" i was able to get a HUGE discount and only pay $5 for the mount and $4 for shipping .. total $9 !! ill post pics of my setup to help others out there who have similar vents and issues... wish me luck
btw .. i did try the metal circle on my vz silicone case ( i cleaned it with alcohol and water 1st) and it stuck REALLY WELL ..there was some movement but it was because my case is a little loose from taking it off and stuff to do a reset on phone ..other than that ,, its look like its a great product!

. Haha. So I'm pretty much fascinated by this TETRAX XWAY product and obligated to buying one ASAP. It's the cleanest and simplest way of mounting a phone that I've seen yet. BUT, there is one concern that I must mention..... WILL THE MAGNET DO ANY HARM TO THE PHONE??? As in, battery life or messing up the phone's display? That's all I'm pretty much worried about. Only 'cause I've heard if you put a magnet on a computer monitor screen, it destroys it. Haha. Someone let me know! Thanks.

The OEM car and multimedia docks use magnets to trigger the car/multimedia dock mode. So...no.You had me at adhesive.

Ok here are the pics ... of my xway mount w/ soundgate M2 setup on my Honda Civic...
FYI .. i took various pictures .. FYI ..careful when attaching the M2 ... i recommend you have the m2 already assembled before attaching to dashboard..otherwise u might make it to close to CD eject button ( like i did )
... i also took a pic with the xway attached ONLY to the left side vent so u can see how it would look if you needed it be there and so u can see the glare that it gives off ...so YES I WOULD RECOMMEND the M2 along with XWAY .. good luck

I just got mine last week and I LOVE this damn thing. It's perfect and works exactly as advertised.
Looks like the same setup as one of the earlier posts. He removed the part where you're supposed to slide the disc in there, leaving only the bar. That way, the XWAY can just latch on to the bar (as if it were a vent).
Thanks for sharing Jaxx! My M2 is on the way, still debating whether the XWAY is worth spending $40+

LEt me clarify ... I followed another member from another forum .. the M2 comes as a "z" shape so i took off the top part and left the screw only ... I attached the base to the dash via adhesive that comes with it ..so it cant be moved... and on the screw part on top i attached the xway to that ...
now the xway can be removed and put anywear where theres a slit to "clip" it to so that is why the last pic shows it w/o the M2 ... U really do not need the M2 but in my care because the dashboard is soooo curved the xway alone still caused the sun and glare to hit the screen thus causing me not to see the screen... so the m2 made it horizontal or customizable to any angle to avoid the glare .... as u see on the LEFT ..u bearly can see the screen ...

John_Ecko ...the M2 might do the trick .. im not sure since i dont have a clip to my case i dont see how u would attach it to the top of the Z ..(the part i removed) .. I personally feel that its worth it the $40 ..

One question about the M2, you know that dark grey part made out of soft material, it's also on the orange paper...where the hell do you put it?? haha. I keep staring at step #15 and I have no idea where that is.

For those who have this on their Droid X, did you mount it to the battery door? I'm just thinking I'd rather mount the disc to something that's removable/replaceable.

Nah, I didn't buy the XWAY. I want to see how it was with just the M2. So far, I really like it. When I was driving to work this morning, my phone was chilling perfectly on the M2 that's on my dash. I feel like the true benefit of pairing it with the XWAY is if I were to move between two cars. I do use two different cars sometimes but I figure, if I get another M2...it'll just be another 10 bucks.
The disc on the back isn't as cool or intuitive as a magnet but it's also less intrusive. The fact that our X's has that bump, you hardly notice the disc at all when you have it laying on its back.
I recommend mounting it to the case of your phone. I have a hard-case I bought from Verizon (two piece), and it stuck to it just fine. That way, the back of your actual phone never gets anything sticky on it.

I don't use cases on my phones. Hence the wondering if I could mount it to the battery door cover, which is easily replaceable - I'll buy a different car mount if there's some reason why it won't mount to the battery cover.

To be honest I looked all over and the only ones that I found that sold it were the ones you just mentioned. I recommend just getting it from Tetrax.us. It's worth it. I love mine.
