XM Sirius App released for Android OS

Installed and then uninstalled once I found out it if $3 a month. We have 2 accounts with Sirius ($78 per quarter) and we are huge fans but I'm not going to pay more. I will use it very infrequently on phone. When I'm in car obviously I will play off of head unit and at home off of computer.

I've used the app a bit more and I'm really impressed by the sound quality. It is way better than Pandora and sounds just about as good as my direct connection via a satellite radio device. When I've got a fast WiFi connection, it's butter, but still very, very good over 3G.

For 10 cents a day--in Mexico they call this "almost free". :-)

Anyone else getting stuck on "checking for updates" after submitting the login? Mine just sits there until the screen times out. When I unlock the phone, I am back at the log in prompt. I upped the timeout to 10 minutes and it's not helping.

Does it cost extra if you already have an in-car subscription?

On that note, I'm pretty PI$$ED that once the merger happened, they started charging extra for an online subscription. That used to be free...of course they're going to raise prices and charging premiums once they have a monopoly, jesus the government's stupid.

Yep, I remember wondering how they'd abuse their newfound monopoly when the merger got approval - then I remember getting the e-mail from Sirius notifying me that I'd have to pay for internet radio after my next renewal. I guess I should have gotten that lifetime subscription they wanted to sell me when I first subscribed...

I was going to consider using the app instead of slacker or pandora until I was told that it would be 12.95 a month without a normal subscription. Oh well.

I'm using the free trial now. Somehow the streaming isn't good, low quality sound and it gets cut off sometimes.

I'm sticking with XiiaLive Lite, it streams perfect quality with no hiccups.

If you had a multi year sub, you were to have free Premium turned back on for the life of the plan you chose. (It took a ton of emails from subs directly to Mel to have it corrected) So if you have that, then yes it is free on the Droid.

So a single year subscription wouldn't count, right?

Why is this not in the Android Market? It creeps me out to have to install it third-party style. Doesn't seem like major players like this would be distributing outside of the Android channel.

Or you could eliminate one of the accounts and upgrade the other to include internet streaming, then just use your phone in the car, thus saving yourself a net $12/mo. ;)

I ended up calling XM.
Basically they gave me a temporary password. I uninstalled the app, installed back again from the link they sent me. Worked well for me.

Try uninstalling and reinstalling to see if that does works for you.

I downloaded to see if it's something I would use. #1- no howard. #2 - no play-by-play baseball nor football. And #3 - I'm getting the looping problems reported elsewhere (song starts fine then about 1/2 way through it loops back to the beginning).

[note: running Froyo 2.2]

I'll be uninstalling this one.

This is cool but I don't know like the idea of paying the extra $ for something I already pay for. There's a word for that - Ripoff!

Don't know about the Howard thing, but legally they can't stream baseball or football in the app due to their agreements with the MLB and NFL.

I'm not paying extra for this either.

However, I have a work-around for this now that I switched from DirecTV to Dish as I bought their VIP922 receiver that has Slingbox built into it. I can use the Slingplayer app to access my Dish receiver and simply tune to any of the Sirius audio channels.

I had called when they started charging for "online", it was waived if you had either a pre-paid account, or if you had signed up prior to the fee...I can't remember, but my online access is free.

Thanks for the info . . .
I called & although they can't guarantee it permanently, they waived the fee for the rest of the year.
Had I not mentioned that I had a "friend" who is in the same boat & Sirius waived it because they had used it prior to the policy change.
I don't think I would have had a leg to stand on without your story, so thanks a million!!!

Btw, the CS rep explained that there was a Sirius/XM lawsuit that promised certain (based on account numbers) accounts free internet radio. I wasn't one of them, but they worked with me.
