JC poeple! Chill out. I have had the phone since the day before release and while I want froyo, I can wait for it. Some of what I'm seeing on this thread is one of the problems with this country, instant gratification. It's gotta come to ME right NOW! Do I think that people who bought the phone in the last few days should wait to get froyo after the people who have been waiting, sure. But it's going out random.
Everyone's trying to crack the pattern for how they're going out. Do you understand what random is? By definition it means there is NO pattern. Get over trying to find a pattern in something that has none.
As far as how smooth the iphone's update goes out, that's a different beast entirely. You plug your phone into a computer and update it that way, and many times they advise you to do a reset to the phone. Call me crazy but that sounds like the RUU floating around. If you're so jealous of how the iphone updates, go the RUU route.
Back to the OTA. Let's say they sent out the update to all Incredibles last Friday. There would be network issues and if there was a bug in the software they would have a support nightmare on their hands, not to mention a truckload of angry customers. If the csr mentioned earlier was right, the 700 people who voted in the pole is a drop in the bucket compared to 1 million sold.
Look at the Droid1 froyo rollout. There were still people getting updated right to the last minute of the 2-3 weeks it was out. Granted there are a lot more Droids out there, but that update was already halted once.
As far as when the update was expected, there are only two dates that matter. HTC said Q3/Q4, Verizon said nothing until the day before the update started. Everything else was rumor. If someone says I will be somewhere at a certain time (other than my parents or a spouse) that means absolutely nothing unless I corroborate it.
As far as how long they've had froyo, maybe verizon should've put it out at the same time as the Evo's rollout, and then we could've had the issues many had with it's rollout. If you'd be fine with a buggy rollout rather than wait for a finished one, you have every right to be angry. Otherwise, zip it.
