Root Nonsensikal (Blue, Vanilla, Black)

I just flashed it and OC'd to 710/245. Is 102F a safe temperature for the phone, or is that a problem?
It dropped to about 95F then I pulled the battery to let it cool down for a little bit, hopefully it will work itself out.

froyo roms take a bit to get up to full speed. right after flashing it will seem a little laggy. it is downloading and reinstalling all of your apps. give it some time.

I tried a few of the 2.1 ROMs... each time going back to xtrROM... tried different versions of Kaos Froyo. Each time I flashed Kaos, I had to download all of my apps again. Is there something I should have done for Kaos to reinstall my apps or is this feature exclusive to Nonsensikal?

Another question while I have your attention...lol. I tried to restore nand backups several times and failed each time (read in another post that battery level may play a part in failures). What is the actual process to restore a nand backup? Do I have to reflash the ROM of the backup first or should I just make sure battery is fully charged or on charger when I restore?

Thanks to everyone in advance.

for a nand restore, no prep needed. just go to the backup/restore menu, select restore, select the device, then select from your nand backups. it'll all restore everything to your device, all the apps, settings, messages etc that you had when you created the backup.

Looks like I am taking this thread in a whole different direction...sorry. That is the process I go through but without seeing "select the device" that you mentioned and still no restoration of nands. Maybe its because I renamed them or the battery's charge or because I moved the file from its original location... who knows? I will keep on trucking...

Thanks for your help tho.

sorry, there is no "select the device", its listed as HTC2346800 whatever the id for your phone is. Just select that and then select from the list of your backups.

start a new thread and lets start over fresh. we can walk you through the steps.

How's 5.4 running? Any improvement in battery life? I'm running xtrSENSE right now but was looking to take the plunge and try out Froyo. I had decided on KaosFroyo but now that I read this thread I'm thinking the blue or black theme may be the one for me. Any feedback on how 5.4 is running would be greatly appreciated

It's running great for me so far, battery life seems pretty good. I left my phone on during my fourth block class this afternoon with airplane mode on and I lost about 1% at the most. I expected it would be worse then it is, it seems to be better then the stock HTC 2.1 which is what I was on before I rooted.

There is something that the Nonsensikal dev, listyb01 at XDA, is doing now which is very good for those of us flashing ROMs often:

-nonsensikal v5.4 vanilla 79,846kb md5sum
-nonsensikal v5.4 blue 79,672kb md5sum
-nonsensikal v5.4 black 79,430kb md5sum

..the size and md5sums are included right along with the links to the downloads.

That can go a long way in cutting down on trouble shooting time if it's checked right away if something comes up during the flash or whenever, but most importantly should be checked before flashing the ROM to your device. ;)

I'm a big fan of especially Nonsensikal Black. The sole problem I have with it is I find it rather hard to see/read the text in the notifications. Black text on a dark gray background doesn't play well with my vision.

There are several ways to cause white text in the notification bar (that's what I immediately had to do).

menu > settings > cyanogenmod settings > user interface > notification colors.. is one path, the most robust for configuration. ;)

This is the first time I have been Senseless since getting the Eris. I'm running Nonsensikal Black 5.4. With the Plus version of Launcher Plus unlocked and Weather widget installed it is great. A few minor bugs, but overall I love it. I'm looking forward to the next build.

Glad to see you're expanding your ROM horizons. ;)

The only problem I've had with this rom is the first time I used NAV, it couldn't get a lock on GPS. After shutting NAV down and restarting, I've had no problems. I ran NAV yesterday morning for around 20 minutes with no hiccups.

This is a really nice rom, and looks just awesome (black 5.4).

I see that the dev has included a list of apps safe to remove in 5.4:

-Car Home
-AmazonMP3
-GoogleGoggles
-Google Voice
-HTC_IME Smoothtaste
-LauncherPro
-Music
-SpareParts
-Talk
-Twitter

I instantly took note of Talk and the two Google apps, as they sometimes elicit error messages a bit after removal.

More good work by SikYou (at Droid-Eris.com).

hi, im pretty new to all of this. i have the droid eris and rooted and flashed to kaosfroyo v32 the other day. it works well, but the battery is terrible. ive tried playing with setcpu and the power widget to fix this, but i can't seem to get the battery to last longer than a few hours with moderate use. i was wondering if this rom had better battery. could someone tell me the differences between this rom and the kaosfroyo?

thanks so much.

Well I like Nonsensikla alot, but to be honest I'm running 12-14 hours with KaosFroyo v32. I use AutoKiller (NOT TO BE CONFUSED WITH A TASK KILLER) and SetCPU. The SetCPU widget as well as other such clock speed related widgets have a negative impact on battery life for many folks. With SetCPU (with appropriate profiles), AutoKiller set to strict, and JIT set to on I get a pretty nice combination of performance and battery life --- regardless of the ROM I am running. You might also want to consider doing things such as turning off window animations. One other thing. I found a distinct improvement in battery by following these steps:

1) Ran the phone until the battery was completely dead.
2) Plugged it into the charger and booted into recovery.
3) Wiped the battery stats.
4) Rebooted the phone "normally" and let it charge to full.

ok, so do you like kaosfroyo or Nonsensikal v5.4 better? also what does wiping the battery stats do? and finally, does an application shortcut drain battery like a widget does?

thanks

I lean slightly towards KaosFroyo. An application shortcut should not drain battery as much as a widget because a shortcut is a static link designed to execute an application whereas a widget is designed to dynamically display a partocular bit of information and thus use places a greater demand on the battery.

Seems like battery life is getting worse. Yesterday I went from 99% to 80-85% in 20 minutes I think. Bad signal could have had something to do with that, but I can't know for sure.
I wonder if I should start playing around with other ROM's.

Degrading battery life has a lot of causes.. the signal strength (different area? tower issues? etc..) is one, along with GPS and background updating of apps like weather (Weather Bug Elite is a hog on my Eris.. I tossed it a while back) and the biggie for sudden, huge battery drain: a sync loop.

Check for that by going into Facebook, etc and clearing data and cache.. then rebooting, perhaps even re-installing the rogue apps, and perhaps even having to do a factory data reset.

For themed versions please click the theme defaults app in the app launcher to get white notification bar text

you just have to read a little and youll find out everything you need to know.
