Froyo RUU update available

sorry to come back to this...nobody got error 110 like I get when trying to write the RUU file? (post 385 in this thread)
i am not able to access any bootloader or recovery menus...
thanks a lot guys!
I don't know what the 110 error means, but are you booting into the bootloader properly by holding the Back button and pressing the Power button together?

nope, bootloader is not accesible, nor recovery or any other button combination. the only thing that happens when I turn the phone on is that I get to a screen where there is htc written in the middle and there are 4 triangles with the ! mark in the corners. once there and running the RUU there is a progress bar showing on the phone; it's green and it turns red for a quick second when the radio is being written (as per the install wizard on the pc)

thanks for the help guys

I may upload an alternative update method that doesn't require a USB connection. I'll probably start a new thread though or it'll get lost.

i currently have an orange branded desire, but im using an o2 payandgo sim... will this work for me?? and iif it does will i then still be able to use my o2 sim??
sorry im really new to this stuff =/

To use the sin that you are doing implies that the phone is unlocked, and yes the ruu update won't affect that.

I unbranded my Orange desire a while back, and all is well.

I have just recieved notification of an OTA update to Froyo....will install it as soon as my battery charges a bit!

All went well with the OTA upgrade. Not sure what it upgraded - it said something about version 2.10 software - which I'm guessing didn't mean the main system software as it is still running Froyo.

do i have to always use a gold card for this method? or once i upgrade to froyo on my telus desire i can use any micro SD? plz help before upgrading

Yes you do have to, infact you should just leave the Gold Card in the phone then you will not have to worry about it, Plus you need to make a back up gold card just in case something happens to your original card.

where is this device from, did it brick from the 1st time you tried to flash an RUU?

this isnt a CDMA device is it?

Hi all.
Sorry if the answer to this is here, but just want to be sure.

I have downloaded a ROM from Shipped ROMS called:
RUU_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.10.405.2_R_Radio_32.44.00.32U_5.09.05.30_2_release_142828_signed.exe

Am I to understand that if I run this update I can upgrade a Telstra branded phone with out a Gold card. Or do you still need a Gold card for an RUU update.

My phone is currently unrooted on 2.1, network unlocked but branded.

MrCheese...

READ posts when people reply to you...I've answered your own thread and the one on XDA you highjacked...

You need a gold card to unbrand your Desire and to perform ALL futures updates

This question has been asked and answered in full many times in the course if this thread. Read the whole thread.

Not only that but in the first post.

Do I need my goldcard for updates?
If your phone was originally branded you will need the goldcard for all unbranded updates, not just this one.

I don't write this stuff and forget to say "but 'all' doesn't mean you obviously, it just means everyone else in the world".

I keep getting "wrong image or no image" in the boot up screen, so I downloaded the file again.

Actually, forget that, it looks like its going to work *crosses fingers*

LOL
I guess the reason there are so many "issues" with the update is the fact that people don't read all of the instructions thoroughly, just the important bits about getting the update file, not the other important bits about how to use it.
:D

Hey there!

Bought my Desire from e-bay and has been at me for a couple of days so please excuse my very noobish questions, since this is all very new to me. The mobile was branded to T-mobile but has been debranded (although i do get the T-mobile logo showing up on start up and shut down) but works fine with my local SIM card (Malta). The problems I have came up with are that when i try to use certain apps the googlemail of the previous owner still shows up, thus impeding me from using these apps...
1) Should i restore factory settings to get rid of this or will my phone become branded once again? (I understand that by doing this all apps will be deleted but i could transfer them to my PC before doing so with USB cable and then transfer them back?!?!)
2) Is there a way of knowing if there is a Goldcard installed on the sim?
3) Is there a way of finding out what flashed version i have?

I would also like to upgrade to Froyo and when i settings-about phone-system software updates-check now there is an update available Android 2.2 and HTC Sense update 89.36MB

4) Will this update bypass all the processess needed on the first page of this thread?
5) Will i need the Goldcard for this update?

Thanks for your input guys!

The easy answer is you need to get rid of everything on the phone, so a Factory Reset will wipe it clean and you can then setup your own Google account. If the phone was branded, then yes a reset will put the phone back in to its original state when new so it would be branded again.
(I understand that by doing this all apps will be deleted but i could transfer them to my PC before doing so with USB cable and then transfer them back?!?!)
No, apps need to be installed, not just copied back and forth. A Factory Reset will delete all apps, messages, history, call logs, etc.
2) Is there a way of knowing if there is a Goldcard installed on the sim?
There is a way to check, but since you're new it's probably too involved to check. I doubt it's a goldcard. But you can create a goldcard easily with a goldcard creation tool and then you have no doubts. You can then also run the RUU update file at the top of this thread and completely debrand the phone and install Froyo v2.2 which works great.
3) Is there a way of finding out what flashed version i have?
Sure, just go in to Settings, About phone, and post the "Software information" page so we can see what version you have and advise you of the best way to update.

It would update your phone to Froyo v2.2 but it might be a branded version back to T-Mobile.
5) Will i need the Goldcard for this update?
Branded updates do NOT need a goldcard. But you do need a goldcard to unbrand and install a generic version of Froyo 2.2.

UPDATES

There is a leaked branded O2 Froyo update now available. This will install in the same way, except O2 phones will not need a goldcard. If you've previously applied the above debranded update, this will rebrand your phone and you will only receive O2 updates (if any more are released). Rebranding will restore your warranty if you have debranded or rooted your phone. You cannot later install the unbranded RUU above if you install this, without first downgrading your phone to Android 2.1.

Shipped ROMs

I have read thru all the posts and am still unsure as to how to install the leaked O2 Froyo.
I have installed HTC Sync on the PC and backed up all my data as well as using MyBackup onto my SD Card, which has all been copied as well in it's entirety onto my laptop and PC.

From what I understand I do not need the Goldcard procedure even tho I have generated the .img for possible future use.

I have downloaded the leaked branded O2 Froyo update and am thinking that I copy it to the existing SD and rename it.
What do i rename it as and then do I reboot using the vol down key and power buttons to install?

Is this correct?

I take it you're on O2 and your Desire originally came with O2 software, correct? If so, make sure HTC Sync says connected and then just run the RUU on your PC. It will do everything for you

Yes I am on O2 and it's branded so I want it to remain that way until my contract is up most likely. Don't want any issues with warranty as I do not have insurance cover. Yeah it's the original 2.1, O2 software.

Many thanks for your help EddyOS.
It's simpler than I thought!

One further question tho.
Will I be able to install the "OTA_Bravo_HTC_EU_2.10.405.2-2.09.405.8_releaseol2djq7rqarka2ka"
update?

Great

Thanks for reply and clearing up the questions I had in my mind. But I was also wondering if restoring factory settings would lock my Sim again too and not only brand it.. dont know if i'm explaining myself well... cos i'm presuming debranding is one thing and Sim locking is another?
