2.2 Froyo for the Captivate Discussion

Well, it is my suspicion that the leaked build is what Samsung delivers to AT&T, then AT&T spends some time fiddling with it (Read: Disabling Wireless AP), and then releases it OTA.

I hope that's not the build they release, people are reporting some problems with it.

Well if I recall the JH7's build date was about 30 days before it was released OTA. This one has a build date for the middle of september right? Its possible they will follow the same pattern.

Right, but the official JH7 build was different from the leaked JH7 build.

IIRC - XDA has said this is pretty much the i9000 Foyo rom with minor adjustments. They said the language in it is UK English. I doubt we will see an offical release in 2 weeks but it would be nice. I already have the Froyo Android keyboard .apk so I can sideload it if its still missing in the final release.

Mid-October or end of November. I think we should all appreciate Samsung a little more. I think they have exceeded almost everyone's expectations regarding the release of this update. If we receive the update before the I9000 does would be even crazier...

Indeed, I expect they'll tweak the build a little bit. Not to mention there are some European spellings in the build they'll want to change. Probably remove mobile ap, though it would be nice if they didn't.

Hi, so the Froyo update will not be OTA right? I will have to download Kies to my PC to update the Capti?

Got my Capti July 16th, few days before the official release on ATT. Been waiting impatiently ever since.

I think Samsung does all the coding but they remove stuff at AT&T's request. AT&T is mostly spending time testing stuff.

I sure hope not. I've tried Kies and Kies Mini and can never get the program to recognize my phone, while the USB connection works fine.

I did the update to CJH7 last week using Kies, and the update was successful with no problems. However, every time I check "SETTINGS", "SOFTWARE UPDATE" after waiting the required 24 hours since previous check, I get a "CAN NOT COMMUNICATE WITH AT&T SERVERS" message.

I'm concerned that if/when 2.2 does become available I may not be able to download it. Does anyone know why I may be having trouble communicating with the AT&T servers?

Thanks for the help.

Well, by expectation, it was supposed to come out in September, near the end, so no, they have not fulfilled expectations, nor did they deliver the GPS fix that helped everyone (I think, since my GPS was fixed after it), but yeah, still, it was expected to come in September, and now October, but yeah, once it does show up, I'll be happy. I don't mind waiting, but I can't say that Samsung exceeded expectations...

Other things I've noticed:

- Mobile hotspot feature enabled (works for me)
- New/changed icons for status bar notifications- messages are now orange, debugging while in USB mode is now grey vs red, etc
- New options for unlocking the screen
- New privacy/accessibility features
- Text to speech

Side note:

Has anyone else noticed DRASTICALLY better battery with Froyo? I only dropped one percent in four hours. o.o of "light" use.

ill add on to this. thanks for the change log above!

-Mobile AP is now avaiable so now your phone is a mobile hot spot which DOES work!(oops, didnt read the 2nd post) haha, beat me to it.
-NO HOMERUN BATTLE IN MARKET!!
- swiping the screen to unlock the phone seems to need more effort in your swipe
-flash websites work...finally
-GPS still seems spotty to me, used it on the way to work and the phone thought i was on a side street when i was on the freeway, but it corrected itself pretty quickly
-no more mounting the phone when connecting the phone to your computer via usb (mass storage). you now just click a button after plugging in the usb cord.

ill add more when i get a chance to mess with it more

I haven't noticed better life on the leaked Froyo. Still lag here and there.

The debugging has a grey bug icon which is cool.

There is no silent mode when turning down the volume button! Nor on the notification bar...WTF?

No android keyboard(APK file will have to be used to fix this)

You're misinformed. Samsung never said froyo was coming in september. They promised the update by september for the I-9000. The only official word regarding froyo for the U.S. was later this year. Look it up. Everything else has been rumor!!!! Don't base your expectations off of forum posts. This thread is about a rumor...one I hope comes true but a rumor. If samsung even delivers by the end of november that should exceed your expectations, or new expectations I should say based on reality. Your new expectation should be ok samsung said "later this year" so from a company that means after that date so what it really means is sometime early-ish next year. That should be your expectation, even with this rumor and the leak of a froyo build. The facts have not changed.

*EDIT* I am sooo tired of mods combining threads. This thread WAS about a rumor before it was packed into the general froyo 2.2 thread. I believe the rumor deserved a separate thread. Along with many other threads that have disappeared into page 10 of a month old thread...

wouldnt be that off the wall, the froyo leak is very good, build quality imo, probably already in at&t's hands (so they can get rid of that ap mode :P )

sorry, i disagree that it's build quality. check out the thread on xda for people complaining about bugs. my own experience is that whenever a system app force closes, the notification drawer breaks.

I'm content now and will be more content whenever 2.2 is available. Next week, next month, next year. I've lived my entire life without Froyo. It's good to have something to look forward to.

My exact sentiments.... When it comes, it comes - just be released working and without bugs...... :)
