Help Browser very laggy after 2.0.1 update?

Can one of you having these problems make a video of it? I've tried many of the sites listed, and they're fine for me on 2.0.1.

I cant make a video, but can you tell me if you did the update manually or if you got the official one from verizon?

Bump to get a few more stars on this issue... We're now on the front page of the issues list:
Issue 5286 - android - Browser lags when scrolling after 2.0.1 Update on Motorola DROID - Project Hosting on Google Code

55 stars now, looking good  More always needed.

This info would help if people who are experiencing this could post:

  • - Which browser are you using? (stock, dolphin, other)
  • - Did you update via Verizon's OTA auto update or Manually through the link to Google on this forum?
  • - Is the problem on all sites or only some?
  • - Is the problem intermittent and comes and goes or is it continuous/all the time?
  • - Can you list some problematic sites?
  • - Did you notice anything else that might be important? Specific areas of lag?
=================
My answers:
1) Stock & Dolphin both, worse in Dolphin
2) Manually updated.
3) Only some sites.
4) Mostly intermittent.
5) Androidforums.com, engadget.com
6) Some elements like text input boxes seem to also greatly affect the scrolling speed.

  • Which browser are you using? Stock

  • Did you update via Verizon's OTA auto update or Manually through the link to Google on this forum? Manually

  • Is the problem on all sites or only some? seems to be on the majority of sites especially since most sites have alot of images and whatnot

  • Is the problem intermittent and comes and goes or is it continuous/all the time? seems to be everytime i go to any site like listed above including facebook app

  • - Can you list some problematic sites? facebook app, this site, wrestlezone, cnn

  • - Did you notice anything else that might be important? Specific areas of lag? its the scrolling through the page that lags and tends to do so more over sites covered in images

Dolphin and stock
Manual update
Facebook, BGR
Most sites, but intermittent.
Scrolling and also had some multi touch flakiness on dolphin while browsing this forum.

Engadget seems to be the biggest culprit for me but I have yet to notice any slow down on any other sites. On Engadget most of the lag happens on top where the flash ads and graphic intensive areas are but below that my scrolling is perfect. This could be more of a website issue than the browser itself. My 0.02 anyways.

engafget website has some serios problems even using a pc. its slow and throws script errors. cant belive they dont know how to fix it

Starred. No update yet but would like the problem to be fixed before i get the notification :D

AAAAnnndd this is why Verizon is slowly rolling out the update, to fix the bugs.

I did the manual update. So it looks like the one site everyone mentions is this one. I'm really not seeing scroll lag here.

You wont see any fixes in the current release. It's locked in stone (version, etc) until the next release.

They're rolling it out so slowly to avoid network congestion. The file is about 10MB in size. That's a lot of "pushed" bandwidth at any given time. So they're doing it in 200,000 user increments to have minimal to no effect on data users on the network since this is only 1 of many data heavy devices running at any given time. They're not going to max out their bandwidth in any given area in just OTA Push updates.

This was the "approved" version. Until the next one, rumored in January, this is what we get.

errr...works perfect for me on pc. using firefox 3.5.5.

unfortunately installing firefox on my 4 pc's would not be worth it. I know they know about the issue as there are posts on their own website about the issue so i would imagine they will fix it unless they want to lose viewers. not everyone is willing to install a new browser just to view one website. it

Anyone else asl have some scrolling lag on other thing ojn the phone like scrolling in settings its not nearly as bad but i do see somelag there on mkine that wasnt there before

+1. Guys do you really see google quickly checking over the bugs that people report, fixing them in a matter of hours, submitting the "newer" version of 2.0.1 to verizon, verizon approving it, all by the deadline? I don't think so. This is the version that we're all going to get, whether, OTA or manual. Any bugs found will be fixed in the next update.

maybe they'll do a stealth hotfix that gets pushed automatically. who knows? its google. i swear these guys are capable of just about everything.

Well, after some thinking it over, reading the bug issues etc... I did it anyway, happy to report not a single issue, no lag on the dolphin browser, very happy, notification menu is much smoother as are the other touch menus, the market did have the downloads instead of the vzw tab, and there were updates for my existing apps there when I opened it. Nice overall happy.
I did get the notification for the OTA this morning, but power cycled the handset prior to running it and lost the notification upon power up. Overall happy w/ it and very happy that I am not having the browser issues yous guys are. I did notice it lag a little while loading the page, but once loaded, good as always.

I manually updated my droid tonight, tried using dolphin and loaded up engadget and phandroid. I didn't really notice any lagging or problems. I haven't really done any extensive testing though.

Does someone want to make a video or describe more specifically what is happening?

No they'd never go around Verizon and push something like that out. As cool and important as we think we are Google's real customers are Verizon. We're just the peons that googles customers wish to reach... Granted Google has to keep us around to keep their position but they also remember where their bread is buttered. To use another cliche its not a good idea to bite the hand that feeds them by going around VZW.

You're using Dolphin with Android 2.01 on your Droid and you're not experiencing a lag, even on graphic-intense web pages?

If you are replying to me, yes I am using dolphin on 2.01 and have experienced no lag. zooming in and out and scrolling up and down are smooth.

Yes, I was replying to you. Did you install 2.01 manually? Also, have you tested the stock browser to see if there's a lag with it? The reason I ask is I've noticed a lot of complaints from others. You seem to be one of the few with no problems.

Besides that, can you tell us less fortunate users how the overall Droid performance is with 2.01. Did the update do what we were told it would do? Thanks.

I installed it manually. I just tried the stock browser with engadget and i didn't have any scrolling issues either. again i'm not exactly sure what the issue is so maybe i'm not testing it right.

i definitely see a slight improvement in overall snappyness of the OS from 2.0 to 2.01. Also it does seem to hold 3g signals a bit better, in my office and my apt i used to bounce between 3g and 1x and now it mostly stays at 3g. I've only tested it for <12 hours however, so take that for what its worth.
