And froyo begins for galaxy S. Let's see where the Epic stands in the rollout sequence.
Looks like it covers all the bases too. The wife will be very happy!

Guess I dont need tell you, but your absolutely right, they did skip 1.6, oops. I think thats the second time I relayed that misconception.
I wholeheartedly understand anyones preference of Epic over Evo or vice versa. Whats an issue for some may not be for others. I personally really want/need good gps and reception so any potential issues with these will make me steer clear of that device.
Just for reference I took this snap a couple of weekends ago with Earth. I routinely use it to find trails and things that arent otherwise visible. In this case I sent the pic to another group that was comming in early AM in order to locate where we were at. Not that it was really neccessary at the time, but it was cool to be able to do.
I was on the fringe of cell coverage as it was, so if my gps was funky and/or my device didnt get as good reception this wouldnt have been possible.

hehe... that's a horrible example.![]()
1- you don't have a great gps lock there- the evo does seem to lock better than the epic, but it can get a mediocre lock like that outdoors, clear sky, no problemo. ;D
2- 3 bars ain't fringe cell coverage.
fwiw, i've got both a epic (came from palm pre) and a evo (came from htc hero) in front of me.
Okay, I pulled the trigger yesterday and got the EVO!! I am just thrilled with it. The screen is gorgeous and this thing is fast. Love it! My 17-year-old son went in to get the Epic (he really wanted a slide-out keyboard) but opted for the new Transform. He thought the Epic was just too big for him and the Transform was a better fit for him.
So here we are acting like little kids on Christmas morning playing with our new Android phones!
EVO FTW!!!!
If you really need the super reliability of a GPS receiver/device, I STILL say just get a stand alone device. But even still, if you feel HTC's GPS is better(which all indications DO show that BTW) then the EVO is the superphone for YOU. Awesome!
How I really don't need GPS insta-locks like that on my PHONE, so my considerations and calculations are different than yours, and as is the same from everyone else.
We need to buy what fits US.
Why get a notes app when you can get the post it note widget!?3) no default notes app. Epic has a really nice notes app, even if it doesn't sync online. Android should have a standard notes app! HTC does offer a Notes widget you can download however, I have not tried. A minor annoyance.
4) no Swype. Ironically the Epic with a slide out keyboard has a nice Swype app. I'm using Slide It on the Evo for now though...hope it won't expire.

Not a very good assessment there. Google Earth's reticle doesnt get any better than that, i.e it doesnt get smaller or disappear to indicate the theoretical accuracy as in maps or other apps.
As far as signal, yeah looks pretty good there at the time, though having traversed many areas of that river and the surounding areas, that is really the exception as opposed to the rule. I do know that other devices Ive had with less than stellar reception do not work well in this area. Im not saying that the Epics reception is a problem, but some users have reported its not as good as other devices to the point of where one works and the other doesn't, not just referring to the signal meter.

I had the Mogul (5), TP1 (5) along with the 6700 (3). Screen, bt and charging port failures were the main issues. And speaking off support? Wasn't it great when HTC totally ignored the Mogiuls white spot problem that affected a huge number of phones, before telling us to live with it? To their credit, they did eventually fix the TP's keyboard...after 3 swap outs for me. These were some of the reasons I bought a Moment. Unfortunately, the grass wasn't greener...as usual. I guess quality is a matter of perception.
I really liked the EPIC, a few things I didn't like were the keyboard, wish they made one without one.

My original TP keyboard failed after 1.5 years of extremely heavy use, but that's alright, I abused the shit out of it.
I think it's funny how some people come in here, with little history of HTC devices, and proclaim "it has this and better support and that", when in reality, they have little or no experience with previous HTC devices.
I had the mogul, TP, and TP2 as well. The charging port failures, that hit all three phones within 8-12 months. But to be fair, that WAS mini usb.
Luckily, I didn't have the mogul "white spot" issue. My original TP keyboard failed after 1.5 years of extremely heavy use, but that's alright, I abused the shit out of it.
My TP2 died early, cracked the screen with a bowling ball >.<

Hello guys!
I am looking for some help figuring out a few problems with Evo. My wife and I are trying out both Evo and Epic using 1 month trial. I love most of the features on Evo, but the screen color, resolution & contrast is pathetic, especially when compared to Epic. Do you guys feel the same, or am I missing something here? (like any setting/firmware upgrade to fix this) Also, even though Evo has 8mp camera vs 5mp for epic, the video quality is poor for fast moving objects.
I don't need the slide out keyboard on Epic, it makes the phone quite thicker, but might end up keeping Epic because of these Evo drawbacks.
even so, the circle that it indicates is easily within what the epic shows under a clear sky. ;D
with the 2 phones side by side, i'm not noticing an appreciable difference.

I think most are who claim support are basing it as I do as to how well the mfg/carrier are updating the devices to enhance useability as well as fix issues. Android's rapid evolution has made it easier to do this, however, it is still up to the mfg to implement it. If Samsung has done a better job than HTC at this then I suppose I'm just talking outta my rear and your above statement nails it. This refers to the generations of Android devices of which is the totality of what anyone is really considering in this forum.
*** AND TO ADD, Just got the new MR for the Hero that fixes the dialer lag and some other issues, and the bonus is that root still works. Yes its a been a long time comming. This phone is a fricken year old and HTC still hasnt abandoned it. Say/think what you will, but this is a pretty damn bold statement of commitment by HTC.
