The play fine on my ipad![]()
Sorry, the Evo is not an ipad. Anytime you buy a new device, you are going to have to re-encode video to put on it. Unfortunately there is no standard resolution, codec, bitrate etc for the hundreds of devices out there.

if the movie is over 2gb it wont play on the evo. that could be the problem. also, most blu-rays i own have 2 digital copies, one specifically for itunes, and another for windows media player. try loading the media player one, handbrake will be more able to convert that.
also have you tried renaming the file to .mp4? sometimes just renaming the file will help.
I have a bunch of files I encoded in handbrake from DVDs.
They do not play on the evo
I left all the settings at default, except for some filtering that I applied...
There's no way I am going to re-encode the 200 files I have. This sucks

Why wouldn't a movie over 2gb's play on the EVO if it was formatted correctly?
FAT32 has a file size limit of 4GB.
For whatever reason, there seems to an arbitrary cap on file sizes at 2GB on a number of devices on the market - and the Evo seems to be one of them.
I'd suspect that, if true, this is maybe a holdover and is due to the original standard SD spec being limited to 2 GB.
As you probably know, computer systems like to deal in powers of 2. A 32-bit integer (another happy standard unit) expressed as an unsigned number can go from 0 to 4 GB - but signed, it goes +/- 2 GB.
It's always something.
Interesting. I knew the 4gb file size limit... I just have not had an occasion to put a file bigger than 2gb (All my movies are 700 mb to 1.3 gb depending on resolution).

)The only support for this device seems to be either useless forum trolls or useless tech-geek exs.
Support is something you pay for. This is a user-to-user forum, and people contribute in their own time out of the goodness of their hearts. You don't have to accept any advice given, but please don't dismiss it as "useless" and insult them just because it isn't what you want to hear. Android Forums is a friendly place.... please help keep it that way.

Files with Digital Rights Management will not play on the EVO. you do not have the rights to play the file there. Big Brother says so. The 'digital copies' you have from your bluray disk contain DRM. You do not have the rights to play them except where expressly allowed by the owner (not you).
...if the DRM is really the reason my movies are not playing then why would anyone buy them?
Try this open handbrake
Choose the File. Convert it to MP4 just to be sure
Toggle Presets" ---- MAKE SURE its under "IPOD LEGACY"
Click on "Video" ------------> Click on "Average bitrate" type in "5500"
Click on "Audio" ------audio codec -------> "AAC FAAC----> Sample Rate:48..Bitrate:160
Lastly PICTURE SETTINGS-----uncheck aspect ratio THEN set width at 800 and Height at 480
Convert it.
I noticed on How to convert videos and transfer them to the HTC EVO 4G - Know Your Cell MEX that they actually suggest a setting of 1500 for average bitrate not 5500 as you have. Could that be it? If more information is needed I will be willing to give it.
I transferred the file to my phone. If I try to play it in the default video player I can hear the audio fine but the picture never shows up (or if it does, it just freezes on a certain frame).
