Help Screen Lock during calls.

Thank you Thank you Thank you Thank you !!! that was driving me insane....and such a simple fix. you sir are a gentleman and a scholar :)

I have also had this problem and did some testing. I have seen a few different issues at play. 1) As reported, killing certain background task(s) will cause the issue of black screen during call 2) there seems to be a separate issue with the proximity sensor. When the buttons are locked-up when trying to answer a call, I have found that if I shake the phone a few time - tilting the top back-and-forth - the buttons become responsive. This has worked numerous times for me - even while the phone is ringing. In general, try not to rub anything across the proximity sensor at the top - this can cause the buttons to lock-up. Makes pulling the phone out of your pocket touchy.

The shaking has solved my lock-ups so far. Hope this helps others.

Welcome to the Forum. 1st post and a nice tip. Glad you've joined us here :)

I no longer have the problem. I happened upon a solution that works for me, at least. When I am finished a call and pull the phone away from my ear, as long as the phone is tipped back at a slight angle instead of straight up and down, the proximity sensor does its job and turns the screen back on so that I can hit the end button. Same thing if I pull the phone away from my ear to access the dial pad or hit the speaker button.

Strange, but true!

Hello Galaxy Lovers!

I solved the problem that screen goes black even if your phone is away from your chin and I'm sure it will also help you to get rid of unlock during calls.

In my case, one of my apps called System Pannel was killing important service. It is called com.samsung.phoneinfo

This was causing the problems. Of course, I tested more than 50 times by killing this service and make phone calls. In this situation, my solution was put this service on exclude mode and it works.

I know there's thousands apps for managing active apps and services .(Task killers, Advanced task killers...etc).
Please make sure your utility apps doesn't kill com.samsung.phoneinfo.

Here's how you do.

1. You have to battery pull. Turn off your phone, Take your battery out, Put it back and turn your phone on.
2. Go to your apps that kills inactive apps and find com.samsung.phoneinfo. make it this in your exclude lists.
3. Turn off your phone and turn it on
4. Test it. (I called 611 because i don't get charged:))

**** I know it works because, my 4 Friends who has Fascinate tried and got their Fascinate working and they are happy. Please if this solution helps you, reply on this thread so that we can help other people*******

Good Luck guys.

P.S.
Personally, I do not recommend using ATK. Sometimes, it will kill so much apps that phone needs it. You can managed this with system panel apps that I'm using. It is better, because you can manually kills your app when you feel like your phone is slowing down. Also, Smart phone is different than iphone. you have to manage this phone continuously.

I use System Pannel lite to kill apps like Active apps, Background Apps and Inactive Apps with one touch key. Of course, few apps or service, you have to move it to your exclude list so it won't get killed.

I also use apps called Memory booster once a day and quick app clean cache once a day. Then finish with HistoryEraser once a day.

If you would like to feel little bit faster, download Spar Parts and Change your Window animations and Transition Animations Normal to FAST. It will help too.

Thank you for reading and I look forward to hearing from you guys.
Thanks!!!

So, I downloaded the System Panel (SP), and it didn't even show the com.samsung.phoneinfo. Also rebooted, and it wasn't there. I also use Start Manager (SM), which also didn't show it running.

In SM I added Phone to the Customize tab, so that it would start the phone services on boot. Rebooted phone via normal power down and back on.

SM shows com.samsung.phoneinfo loaded now, but unlike your SP screen shot, my SP doesn't show the process still, so I can't exempt it and I still have the issue.

I also downloaded the HistoryEraser, and have rebooted several times, nothing seems to resolve. :(

Anyone got any other ideas? as like a lot of others, this seems to come and go, but when its on, its on.

Yes. absolutely and when I went in to VZstore, technician guiltily admitted it is a problem. But I am also noticing that it also must have something to do with the sensor because my screen goes on and off and on and off as I move the phone while talking (?) And this lock up problem is inconsistent, but I CAN end the call when using my bluetooth by pushing the BT call button. So that solves the pblm in the car. Going to try the shake the phone suggestion. VZ technician suggested changing the unlock from puzzle piece to glass swipe so if phone locks up I can get to the phone screen faster. Very frustrating for such a wonderful phone in so many other ways.

Thanks to namlee78's original post above, I solved the too-quickly-blanking-during-phonecall problem. I need to be on Bluetooth in the car, press the Mute button repeatedly, # sign, etc, and the screen staying live for 2 seconds was maddening.

I use Advanced Task Killer Free. Following namlee78's concept (plus a few others), I did the following: Open ATKFree, Settings, Security Level (set this to Low so you can see very detailed program information), Ignore List, scroll the list to find com.samsung.phoneinfo, and be sure it is DEselected (no green arrow), go Home, hard reboot. Then start your phone app, use normally, speakerphone or bluetooth. My phone then began behaving just as I wanted.

Also, two apps that are key to my productivity and enjoyment: Smart Shortcuts and AltTabApps. Absolutely wonderful.

Blessings to all,
KenShu

I am not a techie, so it is hard for me to figure out how to fix this, but I have the same problem. When I talk on phone, as soon as I pull away from my ear, the screen is locked. Kinda sux for when you have to enter digits, and if it isn't locked then it is on the home screen, and I have to hit the little green phone button just to get back to the dial pad.

I wish someone would have told me about this before. Sure as hell wouldnt have bought Samsung if I had known. But alas, I own the thing and now need help...... please help......

My call is not dropping. It is just that when I pull the phone away from my ear the screen stays black rather than it returning to the call screen where I can press "end." To get to it, I have to press the power button to wake the screen up.

I forgot that I used to have this issue periodically on my original Fascinate. I'd go to use the dialpad and find a blank screen where my only option was to essentially reboot the phone. It didn't happen often, but it did happen.

I also had a related (?) issue where I tried calling AAA once to get a tow because I was stuck in the snow and the phone kept doing a soft reset before I was able to get to a person. I eventually had to call my wife and have *her* call AAA for me. My Fascinate was able to stay on the call the entire time with my wife, but couldn't stay on with AAA. I was pretty frustrated with it. It stopped doing that later, so I don't know if it was some sort of fluke or if Verizon/Samsung fixed it in the carrier update they had between then and now.

I'd also get some lag on that phone; nothing more enjoyable than pressing the power button to turn on the screen, seeing it wasn't turning on, so pressing it again only to see the screen turn on then immediately turn back off. Or opening an app and waiting for 30 seconds for it to open (yes, I know that's not very long, but when you need the info in the app right away, it's forever ;)).

So far, I haven't run into any of those issues on my current Fascinate (replacement phone).
