Root Coming from rooted X to Fascinate

Dirrk was able to POST [to borrow a windows term] at 1.6. But it would not hold at 1.6 and there were other issues where it would revert to 1.1. Seeing all these G2's above 1.5Ghz makes me think we should be getting more than 1.25 from our hummingbird's. I know its a different cpu but still. Then again the Captivate has been out for months longer and I dont see them above 1.3 either. Maybe Froyo will make the OC ceiling higher, maybe not

yeah its all speculation, but i would have to think that it can go higher than 1.25 and its a 2.1 issue. I know they have quasi-froyo on the captivate and that seems to be taking up all the devs time other there, but when the full release 2.2 is out we ll see.

Obviously comparing different chipsets is apples to oranges, but I looked back at old threads and the omap in the dx could not get past 1.15 on eclair, and they didnt know for sure why, everyone said it was either processor limit like snapdragon not going past 1.19 or it was an eclair memory issue.

It looks like that turned out to be an eclair issue at many of the dx/d2s out there are 1.3+ capable. If 1.25 is capable out of galaxy s's on eclair, one would think 1.4 should be possible. Granted this out of my ass speculation given I have no clue what the devs really do and barely passed freshmen computer science in college

Still the captivate on hybrid 2.1/2.2 kernels with whatever froyo their running seem to jump from 900 to 1200 in quadrant and 8-14 in linpack. (yes, meanlingless benchmarks, blah, blah) If we are able to get those increases in peformance out of 2,2 and a 1.2/1.3 voodoo kernels there should be a big bump from what we are at now.

Totally agree. Man do we think alike. I keep fighting the tendency to apply what I know from PC OCing to phone OCing; as clearly there are differences; but equally true there are similarities.

Ok guys my SF will be here tomorrow and after I root and install recovery where do I find out how to De BING this thing? I can't believe VZW bastardized the phone with Bing. I hope they made more money then they'll loss on sales. (well actually i don't so we never see this sort of thing again) Anyways that's third on my list . Also is there a GPS fix yet? That is one of the biggest draw backs to this line of phones IMO. Although I don't really drive a lot but for some reason I love gps's

I personally hate touchwiz ALMOST as much as I hate blur, which is really saying something. I have only found sense to be a tolerable oem android skin so far among the big 3, although acer's liquid skin is freakin sick to play with at first, but I could see getting very old, very fast (think the card system from webos inserted into android).

That being said, I think is Samsung was trying to court customers on other carriers that want iphones but didnt want att then it was a good move. I had a friend who I ultimately steered to an inc (this was when the sf had just launced and I was still on my anti-samsung soapbox) who said I like the fascinate because its the closest thing to an iphone on verizon, it looks and feels like one! I have a co-work on tmobile who loves their vibrant for the same reason.

As ugly as the captivate is, it was smart of att to make it look different from the iphone as it was unlikely to snare prospective iphone users there at the time, and kudos to sprint for giving 4g customers a keyboard option instead of the evo (although it further cutdown on internal memory)

But the great the about lp as you pointed out, and adw is that you can rid yourself of oem skins and make the phone yours again.

ADW is great, but I personally recommend Launcher Pro. Chip in for the plus and you get resizable widgets, and some nice Launcher Pro widgets to replace the stock ones you miss out on. (although you're not missing much in my humble opinion...)

Launcher Pro is speedy as heck, and just gives you a bit of an edge customization-wise over ADW. Both have their pro's and con's, but I ultimately went with Launcher Pro myself. I believe you can try both free to decide which one you like best.

Yup, its seems like 75% of us go with LP[+], 20% go with ADW and 5% actually like TW which is fine if its their preference. But yeah far and away most SF'ers in these parts are running LP[+]

Yeah I have LPP had it for awhile and have it all setup. I'm hoping I can just move my files and restore by X setup to the SF.

I like ADW but I've pretty much gone with LPP at this point

I just finished rooting and installing CWR and I'm doing a Nandroid backup now (just for fun).

Once I activate this thing I should have it longing like my X in no time

HOW TO DISABLE VOODOO LAGFIX
1. Use Astro File Manager or Root Explorer app...open the app
2. Navigate to sdcard/Voodoo folder
3. Create a new blank FILE named disable_lagfix....NOT A FOLDER

anythings possible, but given that after a year the milestone hasnt been cracked and all the current progress on the x is because of the milestone crew id doubt it. When birdman, neoled, and that group gave up and said it wasnt possible Id tend to take them seriously

Its hardware locked so it's not likely and if they did it would be very hard for the average user. How good are you at soldering tiny electrical connections or cutting traces? And if its a hardware crack if you mess up you mess up for good

I suppose if they found out what is preventing the radio from working though it might get done but I think it would take some inside info.

FYI in less than 24 hours I've borked my SF I've got it going again but I have to redo all the sheet I've spent all day on. lol

You knows how to get this Voodoo partition off my phone? since I'll be doing a lot of setting up I figured I need to be doing some nandroid backups so I decided to disable it. It didn't go well. and now, even though its running, I still have some voice telling me there is this partition and I don't have boot animations.

I also tried to restore my backup after I finally got it up and running but it went nuts with force closes. So i had factory reset, again.

So anyways I'm almost back to square one. The only thing I still have is root. and a spooky computer voice on boot.

We could always climb back on board. But I'm really liking the size of this phone. It fits in the pocket better, it's lighter ,its thinner. So far I haven't run into anything to really hate.

I saw that but it was late and I more or less had it up and running so I'd thought I ask first.

did it first thing this morning and it worked like a charm! You still got it Bot!

Now can we deodexed this thing? and if so is there an easy way or do I have to do it manually? Are there any themes yet I hate this baby blue crap.

Other than I kind of like this phone. Its easier to work one handed and fits the pocket much better
