Root Elelinux RC1

Xyro: Thanks for this mod, looks much better than the default Sense black. Silver with the cyanogen lockscreen & ADW is so elegant.

Ok, I think I'm gonna get this rom lol. So I just go the website and flash it as normal? o.o Or are there any extra steps to getting this rom?

Scroll down his post and you'll see a lot of extra stuff you can flash. The only thing you really ought to flash is a new kernel, but see if anything else appeals.

Flash them all straight after flashing the actual rom.zip

EDIT: Flykernel comes in a load of variants, but these are the CM6 ones: http://www.mediafire.com/?p4p46m64o4dh2

May I ask what a kernel is? and when I flash it do I have to wipe(cause imma install it after i flash the rom) and if so, what do I wipe?

It's code involved in running the phone's hardware. The main thing they do to interest us is to control the speed of the phone's processor for overclocking. Do you overclock your phone already?

And you have to do a full wipe, then flash the rom, then flash the kernel right after.

If you were just switching kernels but not roms, only a dalvik cache wipe is neseccary, but a full wipe is needed to switch ROMs.

Just switching roms, and I dont overclock or underclock so is the kernel thing necessary? :p

and does it reboot randomly?(the rom)

is the kernel thing necessary?

No, the ROM flash will install a new FlyKernel version anyway.

and does it reboot randomly?(the rom)

Ordinarily? No, it's very stable.

Uncommanded shutdowns/restarts are an indication that you've got an underlying problem. Such as mine has been doing since flashing RC1 last night..... about to do a full wipe reinstall.

Flashed RC1 on Friday night and previously running the 2.2 special version. Since using RC1 though I'm now not getting any track ball 'flashing' or any LED notification for emails/texts. Anyone else having this problem? As I was on the special, only wiped Davlik cache before flashing.

Thanks

Actually, I've installed the rom and I'm not really feeling it ._. Will doing a Nand restore take me back to my VR12? Or do I have to reinstall everything?

Do you flash that fix as normal?(no wiping?)

Yup, no wiping (of anything) required. The trackball now flashes correctly.

Will doing a Nand restore take me back to my VR12?

Yes, it will roll you back to the previously-installed ROM. In theory, as both are apps2sd-enabled, you shouldn't need to reinstall anything that's on the ext partition as it isn't touched by a normal nandroid backup. However I've got into the habit of making nand+ext backups and wipe everything before restoring these, just to be safe.

I flashed this yesterday, I just upgraded from the previous elelinux. wiped everything, but unlike normal I did not format the sdcard.

I've noticed battery life is plummeting with this ROM.

15% in the last hour and all i've done is one phone call and browsed a couple of web pages.

Really? I haven't given it chance to run down much but so far battery life seems a bit better then before.

I've heard others saying battery life improved (which was one reason I bothered to flash). I'd been quite happy with the previous version for a couple of weeks.

I wonder if titanium backup has something to do with it. I try not to replace system data.

I might try starting from scratch and install again

I installed Elelinux RC1 the hour it was released and i am on 25% right now. So I'm extremely happy with this rom. I did get a few Force closes when using my Tatanium backup, but i did a fresh wipe and install and everythnig is worknig extremely well now!

Loving everything about this ROM so far - the battery life does seem to have improved.

However, it seems for reboot sometimes when I open a the default/a 3rd party camera app.

Also, the time after snoozing the alarm is definitely more than 10 minutes and there doesn't seem to be a way to change it. Any ideas?

Not sure why, but it sounds like its just me, but I continued to have battery issues all weekend.
I also started experiencing problems with the touchscreen. It would think I'd pressed a key at the bottom of the screen when I'd pressed one at the bottom. Also sending a text was near impossible as if I hit one key a dozen other characters would appear on my screen - unless i hit the screen close button and then turned it back on again, then i could type normally again.

Anyway it was all getting annoying so I used the old nandroid backup and went back to elelinux 2.1 which is the best I've had so far.

As some see on my profile, I've been running for few weeks and it works well half the time, but slows down to a crawl and becomes unresponsive at other times.

Sometimes I press on an app and it presses something else, does nothing and then the haptic feedback seems to have a life of its on and presses many characters before press the power button...

Force close issue once in a while with many apps as well, particularly the graphic intensive ones.

Also using launcherPro with it and it's got great options, although I'm trying not to use too many of them to save battery life. OC'ing the processor has helped a bit tho I find.

Is there v3 coming out soon? Thinking of trying other 2.2 Roms to see if the grass is greener on the other side.

:)

The special editions aren't necessarily the most up to date ones. They just seem to be themed versions of the normal elelinuxes.

The most recent one at the moment is RC1.

There even seems to be an optional special edition theme for RC1, which might explain the lack of an actual v3 special edition.

Hmm, hope v3 does come out then and it's not a theme.

Really loving tweaking my hero atm lol. :)

I'm wondering if my battery needs calibarating seeing as it's second hand? Or should I get a new one?

Got my Hero cheap (Would have been cheaper but I couldn't swap it with my old Tocco Ultra. :()

It can't hurt. All you have to do to calibrate is to drain it completely, give it plenty of time to charge fully (whilst turned off) and then boot into recovery mode and wipe the battery stats.
