Her hey guys. I bought an epic too. And expect a no holds barred review of both devices. I will leak this though, they are both awesome android devices.

They're both awesome phones to be honest. My wife has the Epic and has had it since release and I've played with it significantly. I had to wait for my update period to come up, and researched for a couple weeks which phone to get. For me, it came down to whether I trust Samsung to fix any issues with the phone, (slow connection speeds and GPS issues) or wanted a hardware inferior (slightly) phone. After my experience with the Samsung Moment, I chose the EVO.

I figured I'd have buyer's remorse and wind up trading it out after 30 days, but in my first week, I freakin love this phone. There's no chance I'm trading it for the Epic at this point. The development community behind this is awesome, the hardware is just fine for everything I've seen, everything works great, and HTC has put out release after release of updates.

to basscomander and flonkas....

why did you change????

Because I hardly ever used the keyboard and I felt it added unnecessary girth. A hard case makes it even worse!.. And I recently aquired a taste for the whole tablet style thing . Epic is amazing though. If I could put the internals of the epic into the shell of the evo, it would be the perfect phone for me. Sense is a nice change.. Also the epic feels cheap In the hand compared to evo. My 2 cents..

all of yall are saying no just because of the physical keyboard.....well stop being so ignorant and say other reasons because the only way the evo wins this category is in screen size. epic has way better screen quality and the gpu smokes the evo and so does the Hummingbird processor. I think that the Galaxy S cameras are on par with the evos and droid incredibles but thats my opinion. But seriously people give more info on WHY you choose whichever phone you choose so you can help the guy out. Not just " it has a physical keyboard so no".

There are 22 pages to this thread, plenty of info and opinions should one bother to read. By most accounts of people who have both devices side by side, the Epic does not "smoke" the Evo by any means. At least at this point in time, in real use, the Evo is either on par with or faster than the Epic in most categories aside from graphics.

Really no need to trash the thread by calling others ignorant.

after a week with it..... then let us know.. if it was a mistake or not.

So I have had my evo for over a week now, and I can honestly say Im glad I made the swith. While the screen is not as good, that is something I was willing to compromise for a much better working phone. The camera is not as good as well, but that really doesnt get used much. The bigger screen has made typing a lot easier than it was on my hero. That was something I was kinda iffy about, cuz I had trouble typing on the hero, but that isnt an issue with the evo. It is slightly slower then the epic, but not by much at all to really notice. The gps and wifi tethering are also infinately better than that of the epic as well. I thought the evo was going to be too bulky in my pocket, but it isnt. The battery is also slightly better too. While at work I also turn off my phones connection to the internet, and turn it on while on breaks to get my emails and use apps, and my battery only drains by about 20% over an 8 hour period.

All in all, I highly recommend the evo over the epic any day!

The Evo's photos are more grainy whereas the Epic's photos are more clear and sharp.

Don't you mean "clearer" and "sharper"? ;)

Zomg IOWA bought an evo? And he's defending it too? I think the world is coming to an end, I'm talkin fire and brimstone coming down from the skies, rivers and seas boiling, forty years of darkness, earthquakes, volcanoes, the dead rising from the grave, human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together - mass hysteria.

You forgot "Cubs winning the World Series." :D

all of yall are saying no just because of the physical keyboard.....well stop being so ignorant ..........

It's a quiet sunny morning when all of a sudden there's a splash. A thin filament attached to a red and white floating ball appears as if from nowhere and dangling below is the above little morsel.

Use both! Make your own decision. Then come back and we'll have a ignorant contest. I'm sure you'll do well.

Crappy Capacitive Touch Buttons
Ultra Boring Touch Wiz
Lesser 3g and 4g reception
Worse Battery (from my experience)
Bad GPS
Smaller Screen
No 2.2
Samsung slow-no updates

The Epic is a spec queen. It benchmarks well, but does not engage the user. The Evo has been in FAR more demand than the Epic. You can quote your spec sheets all day, but the masses have spoken. MORE people want the Evo. Period.

The masses have also spoken about the iPhone 4. Does that make it better than every other phone?

The masses a couple hundred years back believed in witchcraft hysteria, and often executed many innocent women along the way. Does that make them right?

Don't base an argument about what the masses want, because the masses are often wrong and driven by reasons other than what's the best choice.

Now that isn't exactly head to head now is it? The Iphone has built a consumer base for several years now. And piggybacked that off the Ipod/Itunes sales which was brilliant. Android is just now getting to the point where it can challenge IOS. And android is split up among SEVERAL top phones, not just one, and several carriers which you'd probably have to combine several of them to match AT&T.

If the EVO was the only Android phone and this was the 4th generation of it, then you might be onto something, but the way you put it is apples to oranges.

And let's face the facts, if the Iphone were on Sprint, it would still outsell all of the Galaxy,HTC,Motorola's. The phone itself isn't the problem. And Android isn't easily distinguishable as BETTER than IOS by most people. Just different.

The Epic and Evo are head to head, same carrier, same OS, same abilities, close release dates. COMPLETELY different receptions. Apples - Apples. You can find Epic's for $99 only a couple months after it came out. You couldn't find an EVO at all. That says a lot.

I'm just going to LOL and shake my head at you. Your not really worth my time.

EVO FO SHO!

One of my brothers has the Galaxy and another of my brothers has the Captivate and when they both held my phone they said that the phone felt much more solid then theirs which of course I agree with. Plus I cant stand sliders. They just seem SO teeny bopper to me.

Or your lack thereof due to your blind fanboyism in this subject.

And no sales numbers you quote will change that.

Resulting to personal insults now? That's usually what happens when one runs out of useful information. You have no counter to what I said because it's the flat truth. You can't get any more head to head than the Epic and Evo, and the results speak for themselves.

:p

@heavychevy:
I don't think arguing quality of a product based on sales figure matters if there is hype involved. You can't deny there is a lot of hype surrounding the HTC Evo 4G, being advertised as the first 4G (though fake) phone, ever.

Its like arguing Wii is the better console because it sold more than both XBOX360 and PS3. Consumers like to buy new things to see what the hype is all about. Evo is no exception.

In terms of being solid, I feel Droid X has a better build, despite the '4G' (again FAKE) tag, but Evo probably sold better.

You may also want to read what is wrong with your argument:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Argumentum_ad_populum
Quick snippet:
This type of argument is known by several names,[1] including appeal to the masses, appeal to belief, appeal to the majority, appeal to the people, argument by consensus, authority of the many, and bandwagon fallacy, and in Latin by the names argumentum ad populum ("appeal to the people"), argumentum ad numerum ("appeal to the number"), and consensus gentium ("agreement of the clans").

That's because HTC couldn't supply them so the emand was much higher. If supply was plentiful, they would've been just as cheap.

I don't miss my evo at all, and I had it for a solid amount of time before the epic and after bujying the epic. Great phone, but I've been quite happy with the Epic, it's size, feel, real keyboard and cursor keys among other things. I use docs to go quite a bit and it's just easier to work with on the epic. Full screen while using the keyboard and navigating with the arrow keys are a dream compared to going on screen. And none of the better on screen keyboards even have nav keys always there like the stock evo keyboard so it's even more of an issue. I don't have gps issues when I use nav which is 90% of my gps use. I only turn it on when I need it so I dn't have cache issues.

Again, both are good phones if you just buy to your needs and ignore all the heated ahole comments in this thead. Still amazing people get so heated about phones. It's actually sad.
