Its funny that the Evo is STILL outselling the epic even with as much of a headstart as it had.

why is it funny? do you view it as older tech and the Epic is newer tech and should outsell the Evo? They're both very capable phones and slates seem to have a wider appeal in general. Look at all the carriers. Slates outnumber sliders. There's nothing funny about it unless you were just trying to make a dig which you pretty much failed.
@heavychevy:
I don't think arguing quality of a product based on sales figure matters if there is hype involved. You can't deny there is a lot of hype surrounding the HTC Evo 4G, being advertised as the first 4G (though fake) phone, ever.
Its like arguing Wii is the better console because it sold more than both XBOX360 and PS3. Consumers like to buy new things to see what the hype is all about. Evo is no exception.
In terms of being solid, I feel Droid X has a better build, despite the '4G' (again FAKE) tag, but Evo probably sold better.
You may also want to read what is wrong with your argument:
Argumentum ad populum - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Quick snippet:
This type of argument is known by several names,[1] including appeal to the masses, appeal to belief, appeal to the majority, appeal to the people, argument by consensus, authority of the many, and bandwagon fallacy, and in Latin by the names argumentum ad populum ("appeal to the people"), argumentum ad numerum ("appeal to the number"), and consensus gentium ("agreement of the clans").
BTW I think you tried a little too hard with that reply.
How is calling a fake 4G showing me what I am about? Its going in the right direction but it isn't 4G.Oh please, the hype was mostly internet. Most people hadn't even heard of the EVO when it released and there wasn't a commercial for it until after release, or at least that's the first time I saw it. There was as much or more hype for the Galaxy phones (which cover several carriers) as the EVO by itself.
Actually the EVO vs the Epic is more like the 360 vs the PS3. The PS3 is the spec queen and the 360 is the one that everyone bought because it was more user friendly. The PS3 had DISMAL sales in part due to how much it cost, and fell short of the 360 in it's game diversity and online play. The part that involved the PEOPLE.
The fact that you call 4g "fake" shows what you are about. It's still FAR faster internet than anything coming out of a Droid X. I could show you my 8k+ download speeds if you like.

You know T-Mobile is starting to call their HSPA+ 4G as well, and for good reasons. If your competitors lies, might as well too to even the play level.
You can achieve similar speed on T-Mobile's HSPA+ -- but, regardless, there's nothing out there touching true 4G speed out there, or even being deploy.
The funny part about the whole '4G' drama going on is I doubt any of the carriers will sue the other for false advertisement, because if they do the money they invested into upgrading to '4G', and the money already went into advertising the fake 4g networks will be wasted.
I'm surprised you don't take into account Verizon's call quality. Overall I think Droid X is the better phone out of the two, and without the issues such as light leakage, screen separation, etc. And then there's battery life. Droid X is one of the best out there.

There is nothing fake about Sprint or Tmobile or any other carrier calling their service 4g. The ITU is irrelevant, or perhaps better termed unheard of to/by consumers. Nomenclature adopted is by no means binding, nor does the use of same terms require any type of qualification. The ITU gets together and sets goals for international standardization and advancement of technology and are not a regulatory body by any means.
Its not as though any carrier is falsely advertising or obtaining some undue benefit by using the term 4g. No one bought any device expecting data rate as per the ITU definition. Virtually no-one bought any device even knowing what the ITU was or what the ITU's definition's spec was. Wimax HSPA+and LTE are significant improvements over previous implementations of mobile data, more than worthy of being called 4th generation.
While the differences between current 4g and what the ITU's has defined may be worthy of a footnote, the intent and purpose of each arent even in the same ballpark. Calling it fake and labeling it as lies is seems great but really just looks like taking a morsel of techblog and extrapolating that into a conversation as 'knowing' what '4g' is 'supposed' to be.
You all are being dumb about 4G. ITU is the one that been certifying your 1g, 2g, 3g, and now suddenly they are unqualified? Way to jump on the fake 4g bandwagon.
I'm glad T-Mobile jumped into the fake 4G sausage fray. Now that HSPA+ is '4G' we can look at another angle to see how stupid the whole 4g thing is. I don't look at any of them as 4G.
Also love the bonus of "they're unheard of by consumers", therefore they are not qualify. I doubt your typical consumers know what IEEE is or what they do -- you know, the one who created your '4g' Wimax.
Yep, guess you're right. Everytime someone's network doubles in speed, whether to 1 Mbps to 2Mbps or 1bit to 2 bit, we'll increment it up by 1G. Each network with its own standard. Certainly the way to go.
And you downplay IEEE. Good lord...
Makes perfect sense to me. If you want your network to be a 4G network, invest in your infrastructure and reap the reward down the line.
