Root I don't recommend upgrading to 2.2.1 ... yet....

P3Droid is working on a fix so hopefully we can all enjoy this upgade very soon. :D

the recovery sbf is here. i've used it. it works (provided the user didnt try to sbf back to 2.3.15). although, i have win7 x64, so i had to look at my error logs, count characters, rename the sbf to x123456.sbf, etc. thank god for GregTard's post. I NEVER would have figured all that out.

*** 2.3.320 ** SBF Recovery Only

although, it shouldnt be needed if the user WIPES DATA FIRST. the only bricks i've seen have been caused by either not wiping data, or not formatting system. i havent seen any bricks from someone who formatted/mounted system and wiped data. the upgrade is plenty safe if you do those things.

any way you could lead me in the direction of that post? Win7 x64 has been the bane of my existence with sbf's
i've been left to rely on my works xp computer which makes weekend modding a little sketchy for me

EDIT: NEVERMIND. I found it

Now, this is all theoretical but what if there is no upgrade path from this leaked version to future OTA releases?

With the leaked 2.2 froyo you had to revert back to OTA 2.1 to receive the new update. That was no problem because you could just SBF back to 2.1 (same bootloader).

With this release you have to upgrade the boot loader... there is no going back. We won't know for sure until the next OTA is rolled out but those on this leak may be stuck.

theres plenty of people who jumped to 2.3.9 when it first came out who are now on the 2.3.15 without using SBF... even after moto/verizon said they would not release a path to get people back on the right path like they did with the evo folks...
it may be a week or two more (or 3) but eventually the sbf of the new version will come out for people to use to upgrade to the "current" system

Well, ok. My admonition stands for newbies and high-risk groups, such as myself.

For example: if newbies make a mistake and become one of the rogue bricked people, they're out a' luck.

Also, in my case, my phone is my business phone. I can't afford to upgrade to a ROM that can't be restored back to stock. This would be important if I needed to return my phone to VZ for any reason.

Me? I'm happy, very perfectly happy with FAB's 1.0.2 with REVO for 1.2., which is still based on 2.3.15. All of the benefits of the update with none of the calories (risks).

I'm a phone guide, and if you don't mind my saying so, I'm a good one. I look out for the interests of my friends, not just my own.

So, in keeping with my present (volunteer) job, here at AF, which I spend hours and hours per day doing, I am going to continue to:

Advise newbies NOT to cut their teeth on this ROM update until there's a FULL recovery SBF to fall back on.

Having said that, I know p3 is making progress with the soft bricks out there, but we're not there yet.

Advise people who can't afford to brick or who need to be able to restore to the OTA in case they need to bring the phone back to WAIT until they can update conservatively.

I realize not everyone is in this boat, so this warning is only for the "high risk" group.

Thank you...carry on! :D

hey steven, isnt apex 1.2 based off this new version? I think its 1.0.2.2 thats the 2.3.15 version. atleast, thats what i've got on my 2.3.15...

Please note that there are TWO versions of this ROM. One for users who are on the leaked kernel from 2.3.320, and another for those who are still on 2.3.15 (OTA) kernel. Version 1.2.x is for 2.3.320, 1.0.2.x is for 2.3.15

edit: not trying to call you out or anything, Im just trying to make sure someone doesnt grab the wrong thing

Thanks for this - Im still in the "newbie" phase of ROMs so this sounded interesting, until I read more about it.
I definitly cant afford to mess around, even with insurance and all, its just not worth it to run the newest of the new. Mine is currently running super smooth at 1.25ghz, rooted and debloated, so thats about all i need. Now when an 'offical' gingerbread is available that has a SBF available, that I dont have to mess around with SBF'ing back to stock to get the OTA, then ill be more interested. but now, not so much

Cool.. just fyi, we're not dealing with gingerbread, but with a froyo update. Since you are savvy, to a degree, I would recommend your considering Fab's ApeX 1.2.2. He really is a master at all this. I like his work and it's totally safe.

haha ok just making sure you were on the right one cause I remembered this post from fab

This sounds like you're not on the leak kernel. Did you ever flash the leak to 2.3.320?

There are two versions. If your media is not working, that means you flashed the wrong version.

which makes it sound like it was possible to accidentily put 1.2.2 on 2.3.15 but your media wouldnt work.
ug... so many numbers to remember lol

hehehe. true. too many numbers for this old man. :) Be thankful I'm keeping up as far as I able to! ;)

i am running rubix 1.8.6 yea bootloader is screwed on it. i had been running the leaked before the ota came out in september or october when i installed version 1.8.6

This was a great thread to have in place. I think its great when we all work together to help protect our fellow forum members from harm. As a result , this thread was a huge success!! Thanks to all who participated in the team effort :)

Now that the full SBF is out this thread is no longer needed. So lets close it and enter it into the history books forever more where it can grow old and dusty in peace. :p
