iphone 1 ----> Desire or Desire HD ?

Hi all.

First I'd like to say, I like this forum. friendly and helpful people here.
Cheers.

I too, had enough of apple's s%$t and decided to go full-on android !

Now I had my eyes on the Desire HD for quite some time now (moving from the first gen iphone.....yeah you can laugh..) and what attracted me was:

1 - The preloaded maps- to practically act as a navigation system, walking or driving (I live in Canada), that do not require internet connection (I don't plan on having a data plan, got wifi all around me.)
2 - Speed and strength that will allow it to be updated far beyond 2.2.
3 - Good quality MP3 player.
4 - htcsense.com
5 - Touch-focus on video recording.

After about a month of very nerdy research I've discovered that:
"Locations" is not really working for a lot of people, the battery life is terrible and htcsense.com not really working for most people.
And the price, oh the price.
Htc Desire cost (what ever I buy, I want it unlocked) about 2/3 of the HD. if not half.

So I am starting to look for alternatives- I keep reading the good reviews about the Desire.

I'll appreciate your input and thoughts.

Thank you !

I have the Desire and I have the Desire HD.
For me both phones have the same battery life.
If you previously had a smartphone, you should be accustomed to this kind of battery life.
My solution for this is a mobile charger (Just Mobile Gum Pro) :)

And with HTC sense.com, yes :)
I think this part is still under developement and needs some time.

Serious answer now,

I moved from the iPhone to the Blackberry Bold 9700 then the Desire, and can hand on heart say the Desire is the best of these phones. For me the HD was just too big to fit in a pocket comfortably.

The Desire was my best phone before I got the Desire HD :)
The size of the Desire? Everyone must decide for themselves.

By the way I have big pockets :)

Harry, why do you have both and how can you say the battery lasts the same when the HD has a bigger screen?

In the summer I used the Desire for navigation with the car.
With the heating up of the Desire I had a bad feeling.
I had no reboots like other people in the forum.
Maybe this heating up is normally but I had a bad feeling about.

So I thought:
Big screen, metal body, and better Sense (OK, Locations and HTC sense.com too).
And with the Desire HD I'm very happy with the first three items.
Screen is ideal for navigation and there is realy no problem with heating up (metal body?) :)
And the better Sense? Yes, now Copy and Paste works fantastically.

The battery life.
I haven't made exact measurements.
I work with the Desire HD and have the feeling that the battery life is the same.
That's sufficient for me :)

Harry

my old iphone used to heat up when I used it for more than 10 minutes, is the desire the same?

So Harry, you do enjoy the Desire HD more than the Desire?
why?

Under normal conditions, my Desire doesn't heating up (only warming up :))

But in the car with a navigation app running and additionally charging my Desire is heating up.
Navigation with a phone is an important part for me.
So look what I wrote above about the Desire HD :)

If I recall correctly, I remember reading somewhere that the CPU in the HD draws less power than the original Desire, so that would make up for the larger screen size.

Thank you DC,

I am glad that there is a technical explanation for my feeling ;)

The Desire HD has 1gb of internal memory whilst the Desire has 147mb. Do not underestimate how important this is :( as we Desires have come to learn. Actually it may not be a problem if you root/use some methods but the difference is already there out of the box.

I love my Desire but I'm personally waiting for the next big one. The Nexus S?!

The Nexus S is made by Samsung

I have the desire with the HD Rom and its the best of both worlds :) I still perfer the original desire tho as it is the perfect screen size

im never going to buy a samsung android again
htc for android hands down.
the new nexus S will be the 1st and last time google use samsung for their flagship

Agree with Rastaman. Samsung phones are nasty and the software and updates by Samsung are truly awful!

HTC is by far the best if going down the Android Route.

Eek, having both the desire and the galaxy s in my household I have to disagree about those statements.Personally I'd get the hd, simply because I want the large screen, however the desire is FANTASTIC. truly.

I would never touch a Samsung again.

I had the Omnia and hated it mainly due to windows, but the build quality is no where near HTC quality
