Root [ROM] ApeX 1.2 Series for Droid X - Functionality and Performance (12/7/10)

Its amazing how many issues 2.3.320 fixes...though i still hold my breath every time i hit the battery manager :D

What are you finding that it fixes? I'm actually having more problems now than I did previously, the only thing that didn't work right for me before was the battery manager but I did not use it anyway.

Oh wow, this inconsistency between users is disorientating me

So, there are users on 1.0.2.2 who can do voice search just fine regardless of messaging app.

There are people, who even on stock 2.3.320, cannot use voice search.

WTH?

Also, those of you having troubles getting a gps lock, can you check in your settings, location, and see if you have aGPS and network location enabled as well? Thanks!

I keep losing sound when using the phone (dialer), it's happened to me 3 times now, any suggestions? Just for reference i installed the 2.3.320 leak, then installed the bootstrap, then Apex, REVOlution theme, Clock removal mod and then all of my apps.

Can you try pulling the BlurPhone.apk from the stock 2.3.320 build and installing it? The only thing I modified in the phone were the sliders to answer/reject the call.

If the stock Phone.apk doesn't have this issue, I may have messed the phone app up :(

I will do that, thank you for the help.

I'm following Airmaxx's lead here and trying the same things. Just got home and restored stock-rooted leak. Still having the issue with Google voice search. What's weird is if I use the Nuance voice command in the app drawer it works perfectly for calling or texting contacts.

I'm starting to wonder if the Google voice search working or not is dependent upon something on their server-side, like a setting or whatnot, because there is tons of inconsistency here.

People on 2.3.15 that don't work, some do.

People on 2.3.320 that do work, some don't.

I can't seem to figure out how to move between my inboxes, am I missing something? Opening the e-mail account just opens up my personal email account, I can only seem to access my work email inbox when an email comes in and I receive a notification. What am I missing here?

This is another quirk :(

If you don't mind the Blur messaging app, it is easily fixed by doing this in the terminal emulator:

su
messaging -mot

If you want to keep the AOSP app, you need to manually restore Messaging.apk:

su
sys -rw
mv /system/app/Messaging.bak /system/app/Messaging.apk
sys -ro

Either way, you'll have a 'Messaging' icon now in your app tray which will contain all of your Email accounts.

Thanks, Fab. You've done an amazing job with this and it's really made my Droid X much more enjoyable to use.. One more thing and sorry if it's been addressed before. I tried running the Quadrant 'Full Benchmark' and it always crashes on h264 decoding. Could very well be a problem with the app, just thought I'd share.

Thanks for all your work fab, I have one simple issue, I used Zedge for ringtones and some Wp and when I install 1.2.1 I lose the abilty to play any of the Zedge ring tones.

I am on 2.3.320.MB810/Apex1.2.1

I have been running blur 1.5.2 for 2.3.320 (patiently waiting for new apex) and sounds worked fine.

Any Ideas?

This happens to me all the time. Basically if you haven't backed up Zedge with TI or some other means I think you are hosed. I have found that if you have made a backup you can simply restore data for Zedge and the ringtones will show up again. Hope that helps.

You mean regardless of ROM, or just on ApeX?

EDIT: oh, is this a quirk with the actual app? Apparently I had a backup, which I restored, and it plays ringtones

Oh my. So we still haven't figured out this whole Voice command thing? Greatttt! Haha. Now, let's see if I can get the Quick Search to come back. The app you had me uninstall seemed to have been the app that is associated with just 'pressing' the search button, not 'holding' it.

Yes Fab I meant with Zedge itself, not the ROM. Your ROM is great BTW!! Can you please help me get the black keyboard back on this? I have got to have that back, this white is blinding after getting use to the black one. Thanks!!

Yeah, sorry :( You can just extract GoogleQuickSearchBox.apk from the ApeX .zip and install it with the install script.

Just be sure to uninstall the market version first.

No worries, bro. You do great work and this is definitely a weird one since it affects some users and not others. I love 1.2.1 and admittedly rarely use Google voice search. Nuance voice commands app works great and will keep using that until a fix is found. :D

There we go. Thank you for that. Now, to get to the bottom of these voice commands. >_< By the way, I'm on the latest leak of 2.3.15 or whatever it is and I installed 1.0.2.1 and then when you released 1.0.2.2, I installed that. I can't verify it worked on 1.0.2.1 because I didn't get to use it much that day, but obviously, I'm able to verify it doesn't work on 1.0.2.2.

What else is there to do? :(

hey fab is there a way you could get the stock blur visual voicemail, it works alot better than the downloaded apps

Yes, it is called VVMStub.apk (I think, and is in the removedapp.zip)

Just extract it, place it on your sdcard:

su
install VVMStub.apk (or whatever the actual name is)
