Root Ok so I have to show you something...

Fails in Step 3 while writing the Hboot..The software waits for the phone..then finally says that Hboot could not be written.."Hboot could not be written. Probably the exploit failed"

It corrupted the Boot..I had to Nandroid Restore to correct it..
 
Solved it...Just goes on show how much one can do with keyword searches...

I found just one post detailing the same problem..
I'm describing it here (though this thread has nothing to do with it!) so that it has some search hits for the future..

Problem History: Had just rooted my Stock Desire with Unrevoked, and immediately tried running Alpharev to get S-OFF..

It failed in Step 3 saying that writing Hboot failed.
Tried again, and disconnected phone in between-Gave me a Code 5 error.
It almost bricked my phone. But thankfully, Nandroid helped get the system back

Solution: (How to S-OFF/Run Alpharev on Hboot 0.93.001):

Do NOT IMMEDIATELY RUN ALPHAREV after rooting with Unrevoked.


  1. Root the stock 0.93.001 with Alpharev
  2. Reboot to recovery
  3. Install any Custom Rooted ROM first before attempting Alpharev S-OFF. I installed Aurax 8.0
  4. Reboot, reboot.
  5. Try Alpharev again. It works. :)
 
hmm, those are the same version numbers as mine.

If i was you i would do some serious reading rather than jump straight to it.

AFAIK there has been only 1 or 2 full bricks from using s-off and that only happened as people pulled the usb when they thought the program had hung and it didnt.

there has been thousands "if not more" successfull attempts at s-off.

with anything there is an element of risk and it does raise your heart rate due to it being one of the more risky procedures (not because its more likely to fail but because in the even of failure it is more devestating)

I completely agree with you but in this case, however I feel it better to exercise Caution. I tried S-OFF on a Stock Rooted HTC Rom with Hboot 0.93 and though I didnt pull the cable at all, the program terminated with an error message saying that writing Hboot had failed.

After I rebooted at the prompt, the device was stuck, no Rom. If I had an SLCD, it would have resulted in an SLCD brick.

S-OFF is a bit more unstable than Unrevoked rooting..Maybe it would be better for beginners to wait for the Unrevoked Forever?

i found unrevoked more unstable :/
if its bootable then its fixable :P
the main risk with alpharev is you can get a proper brick, as in dead. wont even charge

AlphaRev 1.5

Custom Hboot ignores the security flag in radio NVRAM.

Can do some stuff you cant with just being rooted.

The main one being deleting system apps using root explorer whilst Android is running.

I hear ya guys. Yup, I'll certainly be doing more reading up before I attempt to install AlphaRev. Still, I think it's one of the things to do *at some point* in order to give full freedom on the phone. That, and Data2SD, but I'm still waiting for a ~> class 6 32Gb card to come along before I go down that route...

For the time being I'll content myself with flashing new ROMs maybe cooking up one or two "specials" ;-)
 
I'm on the LG Ally, and I'd like to do this as well b/c of how the Facebook App continues to bloat. Is this possible? I'm sorry if I'm in the wrong for posting here, I've looked all over the net :/
 
If you're good at scripts, no doubt the script is universal once fitted to your device. If not, ask a dev to look at it for you. I can't see why its not possible
 
Thanks guys I will probably ask a developer, but I also found an app called "Root # All Data2SD" that solved my problems :)
