Root [ROM] ApeX 1.3.1 for Droid X - Running, running, as fast as it can (12/16/10)

I'm going to give it another go, got the sbf done and if nothing else this just helps me get more comfortable with all this.

I've learned so much the last few weeks, info overload, I was just saying the other day I should have wrote all this down as my own changelog lol I know I've done stuff, now just need to retrace my steps :)

Do yourself a favor and don't restore apps from TIBU. Let your phone restore them from the Market.

Fab,

P3Droid is about to release an update to Tranquility 3.6 that includes the ability to switch between 7 different themes inside the ROM w/o having to boot into recovery to flash a new theme. Any chance your future ROM's will support this feature?

Thanks!

This is probably because I'm some sort of idiot but I'm having some trouble with add ons and I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I've used ROM manager to install a couple of themes and the goodies pack including the battery with numbers. Problem is, I don't see any changes in the theme or the icons so I'm wondering what piece I've missed to somehow activate the themes of icons. Been reading through this thread but guess I missed something. Any help, even being pointed to a link with instructions would be SUPER awesome.

Thanks in advance!
Rae

rom manager has been buggy lately so i would suggest you download the file you want to install to you sd
now open bootstrap recovery(bootstrap loader) then select bootstrap recovery, once prompted for success hit yes
now select reboot recovery, this brings you into clockwork recovery
once in recovery choose install zip from sd
then choose zip
scroll to the file you want to install
hit ok
let it install
hit power button to go back and reboot
thats it..now if the dev puts any additional instructions with the file be sure to follow them as well

Does voice search work for any of you guys on ApeX? Google updated it again today, and it still does not work.

Any thoughts on how to fix?

Fab - Could I uninstall Google voice and search from ApeX 1.3 with TIBU maybe and then reinstall fresh from the market? Would that help? Or would that hurt the ROM install. I know they are baked in.

Thanks!

Voice works fine for me, even after market update.

Be careful when uninstalling google search. When I did that (via root explorer), my search hard key would not trigger search even after reinstalling from the market.

A couple of weeks ago, when a lot of people were having the same problem, deleting the stock voice apk file and installing the app from the market fixed the issue. Mine has been working fine since then and works fine since updating it today.

Where and how do I delete the stock apk man?

Thanks so much for this! I had tried it but for some reason only folders with capitalized first letters show up in bootstrap recovery. So I put the zipped file in one of those and your instructions worked without a hitch. Glad to know for once it wasn't really entirely me with the problem but ROM Manager.

One last question, if I try out a couple of themes, do I just reflash them over each other until I decide which one I want? I'm guessing you don't "unflash" but I want to be sure it's OK to flash themes/goodies zip files over each other multiple times and that it won't break anything.

If anyone could confirm the above, I'd appreciate it SO much. Thanks for all the help and encouragement try out this ROM. Love it! :D

As far as the goodies zip type stuff its no biggie but the themes should not be flashed over one another since you van leave traces of the old theme in the new, what I do is as soon as I flash a rom I make a backup of it without any themes etc a clean rom backup ,that way when I switch themes I restore the clean backup and flash my new theme

Ok, going back to my earlier issue. I SBF'd, flashed the OTA .320, flashed Apex 1.3. I fixed the update downloading error issue, but now the dialer will open and then immediately close. I restored, and its fine...Is it possible that either TIBU or Droid Overclock widget is causing this?

I have read to not use TIBU to restore apps...but never saw why not. Unless this issue is why?

I haven't OC'd yet or used TIBU...I restored all of my apps from the market, just am curious about the OC widget causing this...Thanks in advance guys/gals!

OK, and what do you use to make a backup of EVERYTHING? I'm assuming it's a backup where you literally reflash the backup and all your settings, programs, apps, widgets etc are just how they were, correct?

Use root explorer

/system/app/voicesearch.apk

long press and delete to permanently delete it. Or you can rename to voicesearch.bak to keep that as a backup while virtually accomplishing the same task as deleting for your needs.

Or, you can use the uninstall function in TiBackup.

if it doesn't work, try mounting as rw.

Yes you are pretty much correct, you may have to reload some widgets but it more or less puts it right back to how it was when you made the backup, to do this just follow the same directions I gave you before to get into recovery but once your in recovery go to back up / restore and simply select backup and let it run its course ....this should go for about 5 min then it will say its done and reboot.
now to restore that backup just use those same directions to go to recovery and select backup / restore and then select restore .....choose which backup you want and let it do its thing

Well, I've never used a ROM on the Droid X before (I have used custom themes though) so I figured now is a good time to start.

I just got the OTA update to .340, and I rerooted with z4root. To install this rom, can I just download it > place it on the sd card > reboot into clockwork > install? Or do I have to wipe the data? I really would rather not have to reinstall all my apps again and reconfigure all my settings...

@ varanaid ....another thing you may want to do is rename your backups, you can do this through any file manager I.use root explorer and estrongs, you can use rom manager but again its buggy at the moment, now just open your file manager and find your clockworkmod folder and open now find the sub folder called backups ....long press it and select rename or edit and rename, now its important that you don't use any spaces in your rename or it wont restore ....mine usually look like this, ..APEX_1.3.0 , notice the underscore NO SPACES! and I say to rename them because when you create them they are named by date only and that gets confusing if you have numerous backups

I should have known, duh question on my part. I uninstalled both Google Search and Voice Search. Rebooted. Downloaded and installed fresh copies from the market. Rebooted.

Still does not work. Im done with this app. Way too quirky for me.

Sent a PM, but basically I would love to see the Android smileys incorporated into the emoticons.

Thanks.

I see them from within my keyboard. What do you mean? Which kb are you using with ApeX?

this rom does require data cache wipe.....its listed in fabs first post as instructions always are by the dev....always remember to read the devs op its the most important;)

Google Voice search only works on my phone for a note to self.

Does that mean anything? Other than it is unable to see anything or anyone but myself?
