Root New to rooting.

Yes, I was using power button. Thanks for checking though, I want this to workout.

Okay, finished downloading the Odin Fix All. Going to try that route now.
 
For green cwr power button is the select button, but I think he is in stuck in stock(blue) cwr, so the home button would be the select button.

Oh man.........SERIOUSLY!

If that's the case then I just reset my phone back to when I took it out of the box for nothing. LOL

It's okay though. I am back. Phone is not bricked and I am back in action.

Thank you so much everybody.....now I am going to try getting back to DJ05 again. yes, you read that right. You would think this would scare me from this, but all it does is verify 2 things: #1, almost all problems can be fixed on this phone. #2, this community is very helpful.

sorry, i should have checked if you were using the correct buttons :o

but in any event, the dio1 all in one worked for you? just want to track it if something comes up in the future to know what works and doesnt :)

This community is awesome. And, I too am convinced the SF is unbrickable (if that's a word 7) . Believe me, I have tried :)

Hahaha, it's okay. I am actually sort of glad after the fact that i did this. Why? Because now I think i have a better understanding of how rooting, flashing, Odin, etc works. I also now know that I can probably rescue myself from any problem.

For your records, worked perfectly. Pushed it in Odin and 4 minutes later phone booted up perfectly.

I am in a hurry to go Xmas shopping, but I will update under this thread and let anybody that cares know how it goes attempting DJ05 again. Hopefully so I can begin to contribute to the board and help others out the way i was helped.

I just downloaded every thing you told me. I am following the instrutions on xda. I have the yellow triangle with downloading under it. When I open up odin it doesnt see my phone. I have no yellow bar on the com port. What now?

do you have the samsung drivers installed on your computer?
 
For all those wondering if this endeavor was worth it, it was all that and more.

I accomplished it in minutes. Especially knowing that I could rescue the phone in almost any dire circumstances.

It is so much faster and the GPS locked faster than my garmin nuvi. Amazing. Thanks again to everybody. I might write up my beginning to end instructional just to clarify things in the instructions that made me unsure of what I was doing .
 
Great news, sorry to hear about the speed bumps along the way. I went ahead and d/l that all in one odin restore to have in my hands after reading your posts and how it saved you.
 
Ok I got CW pushed through Odin. I am having a little problem with downloading stuff from the sites you gave me. Everytime I click on one of the downloads, it opens a new window but internet explorer blocks it.I click on the warning to download file but nothing happens. So I just typed in the address on the address bar and downloaded it like that. Problem is that the custom roms a big files. I tried turning all the firewalls off and security off, nothing.

hmm...well xda was down for awhile yesterday....that *may* have had something to do with it....or your pop up blocker may be interefering
 
I guess I will just keep trying to figure it out, I know it has to be my computer and the internet settings. For now I will paste the program location in the address bar and do the long download.
 
Ok on to my next question? I am just goimg to do th djo5 that you posted on here. I went to the link and it shows 2 downloads for each thing I have to do. One is called a back up. Which one do I download? I figure its the first one and the backup is just that a backup? Thanks for taking the time to help a newbie out.

its just two mirrors in case one got over loaded....either is fine :)
 
By recovery you mean holding down the volume key and power. Then I select reboot from sd card. I have to have the rom and kernel stored in the sd card correct. Thanks for the help with the process.
