***Official Samsung Fascinate 2.2 Speculation Thread***

Im on record saying Im stuck on fascinate till Sept 2011, Im not paying full retail for the 1st tegra2 phone that comes by anyway. Besides, with aosp arriving in alpha status and the eventual delivery of 2.2, with 2.3 assuredly quickly to follow I'll be content enough thru the spring and summer. Besides Q3 is the current target for tegra3/4 anyway.
I know many will by Q2 be off riding some tegra2 wave maybe with honeycomb, so be it.

Yeah I have my wife's ne2 as of January and my Verizon yearly in July.....so by July ill definetly burn 1....but There is nothing on the horizon that can excite $200 out of me.

I agree....I have an upgrade coming in February and I don't see anything (yet) that I want any more than my Fascinate.

Yeah agreed here, Nexus S is basically our phone with 2.3, Thunderbolt will not be the falsely rumored dual core cpu. Once actual tegra2 device are available for consumer purchase we will have 2.3 ourselves so that should hold me over. Despite being false I like that the rumors at least reference 128gb sdxc capacity, shows someone is thinking in the right direction at least. Heck Froyo alone will probably keep me content on this puppy till end of summer. Although again Im betting the farm that once we get 2.2, 2.3 will follow for us very rapidly.

You know what the real pain in the a$$ is? Seeing some sheet from VW saying that the Fascinate will have Flash (and subsequently Froyo) by year end 2010 and seeing that clock switch over to 12:01 of 2011...

This, on top of the false news of 2.2, AND the fact that the Nexus S (basically a Fascinate) is running 2.3 on launch has me at the point that I am writing a very strongly worded letter to Samsung USA and avoiding any of their smart devices or other technology in the future.

Wow. Some angry comments there. One person blames them for taking the money and running. I tend to agree with that guy.
The biggest statement we can all make is with our next purchase decision. Since Im essentially locked into the SF for another 8 months + I just will wait and see what and where Sammy is then. Equally true Im open to any and all options when my upgrade comes up in Sept. 99% says Im still with some Android device on Verizon [which is half the issue - Verizon itself] however, if HTC offers a better solution so be it. Im kinda leary of Moto myself as they seem to be less - dev friendly moving forward but we'll see

I agree. I will be exploring other options myself. Seriously thinking iPhone. I love the Android platform, but at least apple supports their products. But again, I will look at ALL my options.

As an aside, I LOVED my moto Droid 1. Absolutely loved it. Killed me when the wife called saying she dropped it in the pool.

Yeah for me moto would have to apologize for being so antagonistic and unlock the bootloader for me to ever even consider another product of theirs....and odds are they ll probably lock down their devices even more

For me to buy another htc i wouldnt take the leap unless the device was already perma rooted and s-off...as im a bit wary after it seems to take longer to bypass their nand lock with each generation of device

So for me we ll have to see what i get going forward....and to me lg is the company id buy a washing machine from not a cellphone

I was playing with a friend's iPhone yesterday (again ;)), enjoyed it quite a bit.. seems fast and intuitive, etc.

But going back to my fascinate was a visual pleasure, given the display size and quality as compared to Job's gadget.

It'd be a step down, for me.

As for anxieties about Samsung not supporting their devices.. well, it's open source; we have alternatives to official upgrades. ;)

I like the HTC products but I did have an Eris, which went through its own update fiasco running 1.5 and waiting for 1.6 and then FINALLY 2.0 just in time for me to upgrade. It did seem and still seems that verizon favors the Motorola products with support and updates....WTF....only a Motorola is a "Droid"? Sooo where to go next? We'll have to wait and see......I'm pretty sure that whichever phone I decide on will be the last one to receive whatever update that is coming out at that time.

Oh and it is officially 2011.....and....NO UPDATE......end of which year did they mean?

Believe it or not they actually make some stunning TV's too. I was in both Costco and Sears in the past week and the LG's looked as good as anything there including the over-priced Sony's. Interestingly Samsung's looked pretty good to .

Here's a funny truth, Im on record saving Im buying an HDTV in February with my tax return. I wont even look at a Samsung if I dont have at least Froyo by then, should be GB. So if Samsung wants my money for a tv, they better get a hold of the phone dept and get to work.

Hmmm, I should do an email like Adryn did. Very blunt and very honest. The truth is the Samsung TV's are good and I would consider giving them $1200-1500 [my budget range as thats my anticipated return] but they are off the list for real if I dont have Froyo. Hmmm, maybe I'll add a little rider like I will guarantee Samsung to purchase one of their TV's if they send me that latest Honeycomb build too. Yeah thats the ticket :D. Then I can turn around and pull a Samsung and not hold good on my promise :p or maybe I'll put the Honeycomb in the back of my truck and drive by jt's house and oops it falls out on his lawn, accidents do happen ;)

All silly talk of course, that last part but I seriously think I will do the letter.

It couldn't hurt maybe they will see its not only phone business they are taking a chance of losing with terrible service

And it looks like htc is trying to pull a fast 1 and put out a phone with minimal upgrades to make $$ so...
Yeah I mean I wanna like Sammy especially with Moto pushing its own head further up its own ascot. They got the hardware down right which is why I went with the SF but the software stuff is so bothersome and annoying.

I've learned that the majority of information about this 2.2 update has been sourced at nothing more than "phone enthusiasts" on the internet. Since Verizon and Samsung aren't saying anything official, these speculations leave me in doubt.

I just acquired my Samsung Fascinate after having a ton of probs with Droid 2s. The software and interface were far superior on the Droid 2s compared to what I've seen so far. Plus apps are more regularly available.

You don't realize how much content on the apps market you're missing until you see how restricted the Samsung is.

I hate this phone.

sell it on ebay then and get something else if you *hate* the phone so much

and the end of 2010 for 2.2 has been the response from galaxys support on twitter to many of us dozens of times...that wasnt from speculation...that was the official samsung blog telling it to us :(

I like HTC phones and all but battery life just kills it for me!

I have my Incredible with the 3500 mah battery and i swear by it. My wife's phone (also an incredible) was stolen yesterday so she got a Fascinate. She's not a fan. I am trying to configure it so that she likes it, but we have figured we were both going to get an iPhone in February when VW gets it so ????

This makes me wish we could return our phone to Verizon. I was specifically told by Verizon when I bought this phone in October that the update was on it's way "soon." I feel bad for those of you that bought this thing when it dropped. I like the phone, but I really want 2.2 and I am feeling a bit cheated. I am really starting to wish I would have gone with the Droid X.

It's crap like this that really makes me want to root and say to heck with big red/samsung. They don't want you to root your phone but then they don't support their devices. If they simply supported their product you'd have a lot less unqualified people rooting. The people that would still root really know what they are doing. The desperate people who simply want some up to date software would simply wait for timely updates. Ridiculous.

It's official. You can add me to that list as well. We're expecting a decent return this year, too, and Samsung will NOT be getting another dime of my money unless Froyo is successfully and happily on my device before we start shopping.

I will root my devices no matter what. It's my device and I like having control of it. I'm not using pirated apps or pirated music/videos on it. Nor do I ever intend to use my device as a conduit to piracy or any other illegal practice. It's simply me wanting to control my expensive device and make it exactly what I need for work and play. My Samsung wouldn't feel like my phone unless I rooted it and customized the crap out of it. I like to customize things like the launcher, be able to access the internal memory myself, and do some of the 2.2 features we can't have yet.

And if you're not as knowledgeable, come here for help. I have learned so much and been helped a ton, as well as helped others along the way. The Samsung is so resilient. You can bring it back from some pretty nasty mistakes, as long as no physical damage is done to the device.
