Sell my DX?

So i want to sell my Droid X so i can buy the iPhone when it comes out (yes i have an upgrade available.) This might be the wrong area because im sure most if not all are kinda against the iPhone. But my question is how do i take the Droid X off the line so when the person who buys it activates it, it doesnt go to my line, and how much should i expect its in decent condition and has the original box, plus 2 screen protectors. Im guessing $250-$300? Thanks for the help if i get any :)

Boot into recovery (hold home while powering the phone on, then press search) and delete user data. That will remove your personal data and force the next owner to activate it on their line.

Enjoy your iPhone.

probably belongs in the classified section. I would say 250. Its after holidays and new phones are around the corner....

As for the screen protectors they are 9 for 2 dollars shipped at amazon so I don't think they make a difference ;)

good luck and hope you enjoy the iphone

Oh and to answer your question, you clearing data won't be enough
you have to call verizon and have them remove that phone (esn) from the account. They won't do it unless you have another phone you will put back into the account (maybe an old flip phone)

Cool, thanks all! I'm glad you all helped without flaming the iPhone, and also who would say this is a bad move?

The iPhone is a great phone. I had two but like Android much more.

It's all personal choice.

I would personally miss the screen size. And the customization. And the removable battery (I like to keep a spare for emergencies). And all the free apps.

$200 at best for used X. As stated in earlier post, too many new phones coming out, and with the iPhone coming out, there will be less demand for a used Android phone since there will be others doing just as you plan. Plus the X is basically limited to Verizon, and the rush will be on to get the iPhone, and not the X. Wont be much of a demand for a used X.

Why would anyone willingly put the iTunes virus on their computer? That alone in itself is enough reason to never use ANY apple products!

Be sure you do a Factory Data Reset (Settings/Privacy/FDR) to clear your Google account from the phone and set the phone back to "1st start-up" status. Also format the SD card (before you do the FDR) to remove all the data (photos, downloads, app data) stored there (Settings/SD card/Unmount/Format).

Looking on completed listing on eBay, used Droid X's are going for $325 to $350 right now. On Craigslist, I see many listed for $350 to $400 locally.

Ebay is ALWAYS a great place to sell a used cell phone. There are people out there willing to pay a little more to get an upgrade from their current device without extending their contract.

Craigslist is great too. The advantage to Criaglist over eBay is no seller/shipping fees. The disadvantage is you have to meet the person somewhere for the exchange. I have bought and sold using both websites. For Craigslist, I always insist on meeting at a Verizon corporate store. It's a public place, and you/they can get the phone changed over right there (avoid bad ESN) before both parties go their own way.

Enjoy the Verizon iPhone. I'm sticking with Android for now!

Only you will know if it was a bad move once you get it and see if you like it better or worse than your DX. For me it would be a bad move for many reasons. But my reasons may not pertain to you and your reasons at all. So I won't even bother to list them.

This we know forsure, there are a ton of iPhone owners out there who are completely happy with their phone. There are also tons of Android owners out there who are just as happy with their phone. Which will you be? How could any of us possibly know that?

I agree with you, and my standpoint is that i liked how the iPhone is closed and allows for a safer user area, that as well as the wide app base (free and paid) makes me want that more. I appreciate everyone's input very much! Thank you!

Haha, I'm on a Mac, and have an iPod Touch so I already have the "iTunes Virus." =P

Its really sad to see all the people with Android phones getting ready to jump ship soon as that iJunk comes to big red. After seeing all the stuff that android does that the iphone doesn't, you think people would have realized that we have superior phones.
Oh well, Greener grass and all, have fun in iOS prison =]

It's really so not worth worrying about what others do my friend. Doing so really only leads to ulcers because realistically you have no chance in changing many peoples minds, and certainly not the masses. Let em do what they want and just enjoy your own life and the choices you make.

Myself, I've always sort of enjoyed being different and standing out from the crowd. It's one reason why I've always bought Kawasaki motorcycles... they only have a %3 share of the motorcycle market, so not many people have the bike ai have. Further more after getting my bike I dumped another 8 grand into it customizing it to ensure that I would never pull up to another ZX-10R exactly like mine. That's just how I roll.

With phones I feel the same way. When I ordered my DX on launch I never dreamed it would be as successful as it became, I didn't figure many people would care for a phone this big. Now, I have definitely come to appreciate what sort of support a phone with as big a following as the X gets on forums such as this one. And in fact I really do like it. Still, I would never want an iPhone because they are so EVERYWHERE!!! I don't want to walk into an office where 20 people have the exact same phone I do (not that I work in an office mind you), that's just not me. But for some people, thats exactly the sort of thing they're looking for. You know, makes them feel like they fit in with the crowd. Maybe makes them feel more comfortable and less like an outsider. Personally speaking that sounds painfully unoriginal, dull, daft and boring.... but then I'm more of the flamboyant type I guess.

Have you ever looked through a list of all the Android choices there are? It'll make your head spin, there's no way to keep track of them all. Compare that to the iPhone... there are 4.

No way in hell I could ever fit in with that crowd, I'd feel like just another sheep in the flock. Not my style bro. But the majority of people out there prefer to be sheep.

I don't understand why so many attack the iPhone. Bottom line, it is a great product.

I had an iPhone for a few years before joining Verizon and getting my DX....and I can't imagine not being on Verizon now! I get a great signal pretty much anywhere I've been and my DX, as you guys and gals know, is a kicka$$ phone!!

As for the iPhone, some people love it, some don't. I'd be lying if I said the idea of getting one hadn't crossed my mind....but I love my DX way too much!

The reality of it all is....more choices for us means we win as consumers :)

I don't deny that the phone is a nice piece of hardware. I just hate all the people that say its the best phone cause its made by apple. Apple fanboys only reasoning behind their obsession is "apple makes the best products"

These statements are exactly why it makes me sick when people bash the iPhone. I hate the Apple fanboys who bash anything non-Apple. To me, they look like complete assholes. So why would it be any different on this side? When I see a bunch of Android users bashing anything non-Android, then I see the same complete assholes.

Then some pipe in, "well they started it"... What is this, the 3rd grade? When you see an Apple fanboy making an ass of himself by acting elite, what about that makes you want to stoop to his level and act the same way?

I guess in the end I just know I'm not the sort of person who likes to be told what I should be using, wearing, riding, eating, watching, listen to, voting for, etc... So in turn, I don't tell anyone else what to use, wear, ride, eat, watch, listen to or who to vote for.

Edit : Oh and btw, those statements are in no way directed at you JrzDroid. That was just my take on those who flame anyone who admits to thinking about getting an iPhone, even when they haven't said or done anything to disrespect the DX, or Android products at all.

Oh hell no! The red head I dated back in my Air Force days still ranks #1 on my list of wildest chicks in the sack.... I have nothing against gingers AT ALL!!!

;)

That right there is why I'll stay with Android. I always get extended batteries for my phone to make them last all day. My friend who has an iPhone laughs and calls my X a tablet phone because his entire 3GS fits inside the screen of mine :D

Most people I see with an I-phone are the "look at me" types that know nothing about the phone but want to be seen as "hip". Not all obviously but more than their fair share...

Most of them can't even send a picture or seem to figure out how to open one I send them...

It's no different then anyone saying the Evo is the best device, the incredible, the droid x, etc etc etc...

Everybody does it lol....Android and Apple fanboys are one in the same to me b/c i see it all the times in these forums

Also, i doubt you will get more than 200 for a Droid X....Android phones really do lose value quickly...unless it was like May of last year when the Incredible delays were screwing ppl over...
